The wonderfully unique beach bungalows were comfortable, clean, beautiful and a wonderful experience. The pool, outdoor leisure areas, the beautiful gardens just added to the experience at Magic Reef Bungalows. We saw whales from our front verandah and enjoyed the outdoor shower and thoughtful fruit platter and baked bread and homemade jam.
We had some tiny ants and insects - but they really weren’t a big deal - just shut the door and clean up after you’ve prepared or eaten food.

The resort is run by a fantastic crew who go out of their way to make you feel at home, and can't do enough for you.
The bungalow has been beautifully built and is incredibly roomy, with a great deck to watch the sunsets and passing whales.
There is no restaurant onsite, but there are others within a short walk.
The hire cars were great, as was the use of the snorkelling equipment.
The only real draw back to the resort is that you can't swim in front of the resort, but there are plenty of places nearby you can get to where the snorkelling is excellent.
The pool is on the smaller side, but perfect for a refreshing dip.

Fantastic location by the water, private and friendly people
Helpfulness locality and peacefulness

Right on the beach - but sadly not great for swimming or snorkelling from the shore but having a outdoor shower and bath was great - swimming pool was enjoyable - rooms good size and whale watching from beach front deck was awesome
Electric bike was a bit tired and didn’t work very well

Beautiful beachfront bungalow. Very comfortable and clean. Great drinking water onsite, good parking, spacious, big comfy bed and lovely bathroom.
Unfortunately we didn’t think about how noisy the absolute beachfront would be, during our 4 nights we didn’t get a night that wasn’t insanely windy. Sometimes it felt like there was a cyclone right outside which made it difficult to sleep. I would recommend any other bungalow other than the beachfront as they were less windy and noisy being set back a bit and you could’ve sat on the deck whereas we copped all of wind and couldn’t use the deck at all. (Not the property’s fault just the never ending wind of Raro)
Also didn’t get any sun on the beachfront bungalows because of the palm trees right there providing lots of shade which made it feel chilly with the wind.

MAGIC BY NAME, MAGICAL BY NATURE It was a wrench to leave this piece of paradise. Lawrence and Simone have a knack of finding a balance with making you feel so very welcome and part of their family (Airport greetings, Ei, offering a drink) yet giving you total privacy. The CEO, Miss T is simply delightful. Shout out to Jayne - logistics guru with such warmth and Jason - great connection with people - an asset to the crew. Housekeeping and garden staff all full of smiles so credit to Lawrence and Simone for creating a very peaceful, contented vibe here amongst staff and guests. Loved the outdoor shower and bath. Pure bliss! Very hopeful of returning soon.
Not one negative to report in my opinion.

Gorgeous, well-appointed and tastefully decorated, with thoughtful touches like a foot shower and loungers on the deck, a drying rack for clothes/towels, reusable water bottles in the refrigerator, and filtered drinking water in the sink.
The outdoor bathtub and shower were fabulous and very romantic, with lovely golden fixtures, plenty of hot water, and a cute rustic pebble-tiled floor.
The interior had attractive, high-quality furniture, and nice cook/dinnerware in the kitchen, as well as very effective blackout curtains and offered both ceiling fans and AC units.
The community spaces are also wonderful, with a pool shaped like a pirate ship, a delightful beachfront patio with tables and chairs, an outdoor shower, plush beanbag lounge cushions beneath the palm trees, and even a coconut-husking stake so guests can enjoy their own fresh coconuts.
The WiFi connection in our unit was practically non-existent during the entirety of our stay. Though they do provide a phone by the office for making inter-island calls, if you need WiFi to do remote work, or want to use the internet on your phone, this is a prohibitive factor.
The doors in our unit were extremely difficult to open and close. To the point where it was impossible for us to unlock the front door, except for the one person in our group who has unnatural grip strength. Both the locking mechanisms and the unit keys are small and flimsy, and the doors are slightly misaligned, so they don’t lock or unlock without applying extreme force that most people would severely struggle with. The doors are very handsome, but not very functional. I imagine this issue is fixable, but it would require some dedicated reworking. There are also no screens, so if you want to keep the bugs out you have to close the doors at all times, which can be tiresome.
We were not notified that our bungalow would be actively under construction when we made our booking. Fortunately for us and for the convenience of the workers, we were out exploring the island during most of the daylight hours. But if someone had booked the unit in order to relax enjoy peace and quiet, it would have been difficult. It would have been appreciated for the information about the construction to be disclosed beforehand, and not an unavoidable surprise.
It was also unfortunate that the stove in the unit did not work. We were unable to cook other than heating things up in the microwave. The management eventually installed a temporary strove top halfway through our stay, but the entire stove setup remained finicky and not very convenient.

Beautiful location on the beach and near restaurants. We were there with a wedding group.
Excellent staff and easy access to e-bikes or electric car. The setting, pool and gardens were lovely. Magic Reef only has twelve units so very quiet and secluded. Communication and response from the Magic Reef team was exceptional.
Nothing to dislike about the property

Der Blick aus dem Zimmer direkt auf die Lagune ist traumhaft - die kleine Terrasse direkt am Strand lädt zum Träumen ein

beautiful property right on the beach with a pool and 9 ( soon to be 12) bungalows with ocean views. the bungalows are well built and well maintained with a pleasing decor and well appointed kitchenette. The bathroom sink and outdoor shower are two highlights.
Lawrence and Simone are both friendly and helpful. They have a great staff as well. They have electric cars and a couple of e-bikes for hire.

As soon as we arrived the atmosphere and view just chilled you out immediately. Jayne was very informative and helpful for things we wanted to do, and all of the Magic Reef Crew were friendly. We were well looked after, they seem to have thought of everything, from mask and snorkel, to electric cycles and cars. Would recommend a visit you will not feel as relaxed anywhere!
As far as we were concerned you could not fault the place or the staff.

property manager and staff are extremely supportive, nice and friendly. the property located beachfront with great view, free wifi, smart tv, air con, and fan. worth to mention, not all hotels provide them on the island. culturally decorated bungalow gives bit of taste of the island tradition and heritage. also it’s nice and quite, all u can hear is the ocean breeze, maybe some local dog barks, no need to worry to be waken up by d roosters

I thoroughly recommend this resort.Lawrence and Simone are excellent hosts. Every chalet has a view of the beach. The grounds are well endowed with plants and shrubs, and the beachfront has several coconut palms to provide shade. The gardens are regularly tended to by able gardeners. The resort faces west which is perfect for cocktails while watching the sun go down.(please see the attached photos)All chalets have very private outdoor bathrooms. There are electric vehicles available to hire(and electric bikes)at this resort.3 restaurants are accessed by short walks along the beach, and an excellent cafe is within walking distance along the road.
The beach is quite rocky but a small sandy swimming hole is about 40 meters away.Otherwise the lagoon is too shallow to swim in easily. However this is overcome by hiring an electric car from the resort and driving to nearby swimming spots. We snorkeled every day,Our favourite spot was near the Rarotonga resort.

Hands down the best place I have ever stayed at. The hosts are incredible, the villa is amazing and the bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever lay on. It's literally like sleeping on a cloud.. Hoping to stay there again next year.
Not staying long enough, and discovering it at the last minute

We loved our beach view bungalow which had everything we needed for an amazing stay. All staff were lovely and super helpful and we especially enjoyed the fresh ice and water always available. Also loved the outdoor bathroom. We hope to come back one day and see the whales crossing by again !
Roosters next door kept us awake / woke us up early every day

Nice comfortable bungalow with plenty of room. Outdoor shower, fridge, cooktop, air conditioner, complimentary filtered water and ice. Lovely garden and beach front area, nice pool area. Swimming with the complimentary snorkelling gear and reef shoes is best when the tide is in. Some great eating, drinking & sunset spots within walking distance. The paid wifi was good. There are electric cars and electric bikes for hire. Currently with only 9 bungalows available the property is personal yet private. Bungalow 1, 2, 3 & 4 have the best views.
The TV reception not so good and in Covid time was required.

What fantastic location! Lovely place right on the beach. The owners and staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The bungalow was lovely with an outside shower and bath as well as an inside toilet and basin. Good quality crockery etc and water bottles for the fridge were all super. Loved the swimming pool as well. Plenty of restaurants nearby.
An extra bonus was being able to use the hire cars that they have.

The view was perfect from our room. Room was light and well presented, loved the outdoor shower. The fresh fruit and breakfast provided on the first day was a bonus. We found the best restaurant just down the beach. Very easy to check in even when the office wasn't open.
A little bit pricey, especially as we were there in the low season. Could only hire the bikes for the day, would be good to have 1/2 day options at least (maybe 2 and 4hr option). No free wifi.
4.5 / 5.0
The beach is beautiful and the set up on the property to enjoy the views was excellent. Lots of lounges, and chairs and tables. A very nice way to enjoy your meals watching the tides.
