Authentic experience with lovely dinner made by a very kind chef. The private onsen in the room was amazing. The public lounge for drinks and food was spectacular

The old onsen hotel looks quite nice, give a traditional Japanese feeling.
I choose the room with private onsan bath, but it does not look like that beautiful photo shown on booking.com at all. the dinner is a big let down. The hotel is very uncommunicative. After I booked the hotel, I sent a few messages to ask some questions but never received any reply until 2 days before my trip. They don't allow guest with tattoo to use public bath even if it is covered with tattoo covering stickers. Not recommended.

Excellent service, beautiful food, great Osen, and spacious & clean room

Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food. Even though we can’t speak Japanese, the staff tried their best to explain the facilities and food items to us in English

Excellent service from staff.
Breakfast types of food can be improved.

Everthing especially onsen , room.
Breakfast a bit disappointed compare to other onsen hotel I stayed before. Choices limited. Complimentary bread also limited choices.
4.4
Very well-accommodating staffs and programmes like dinner and breakfast inclusion, as well as variety of rooms we could use (massage chair, lounge room, souvenier shops, restaurants etc)
Only a few staffs understood english. Private onsen did not include tap water to rinse, and we were not informed at the beginning. Also no shower in traditional themed rooms

Amazing.
Foods are incredible. All the staffs we encountered were so helpful and polite and amazing. The public bathroom is nice and even have some drinks and popsicles.
Although it’ll be even better if there’s iced milk provided in there

The service and staff were incredibly attentive and helpful. Our traditional ryokan-style room was great. The public and private spa/onsen was amazing: clean with well stocked amenities. The included breakfast and dinner was quality.
4.4
The hotel was very premium with great breakfast and dinner menu.
I think there could be more variety in the amenities provided especially given the price.
4.4
The design of the hotel, the cleanliness, staff were nice and polite, the private hot spring, the common area with hourly served tea or sake
Staff should improve on their English skill to at least be able to communicate with tourist i.e. able to suggest other interesting places in the city or other activities to do, etc. Also, before food served (esp. dinner), guests should be enquired of their allergy and things they do not eat because some people do not eat raw fish or beef and so food be accommodately prepared according to how guests want it rather than standardized all.

This was a beautiful ryokan and our room was lovely. The onsen baths were great including the older baths in the annexe part of the building.
It was not made clear that our expensive included meals were not at the hotel, but rather a shuttle bus ride away in a restaurant. The meals were exquisite but we were looking for a classic ryokan experience where you can wear your yukata and slippers to walk to dinner within the hotel. It was snowing heavily outside and had to get dressed with snow gear on to go to our kaiseki meal. Breakfast was held way too late to enable the ability to get to Kokusai Ski Resort for first lifts and fresh powder.
4.4
The location & meal provided.
1. Spider web everywhere on the wall & ceiling, especially in room onsen area.
2. Mouldy surrounding bathroom window.
3. Need to travel by bus for dinner & breakfast which made inconvenient especially during winter can't wear yutaka & go outdoor when snowing. It defeat the purpose of staying at an onsen hotel if not dining in the premises to enjoy the hotel environment.
4. Hotel should pre inform customer if there's a separate arrangement like item 3 during booking.

Nothing much, come to think about it. Just a normal onsen hotel I have been before. Not worth the additional $$$ we paid expecting a superb experience.
1. Shuttle bus - no proper communication with guests on the arrangement of the shuttle bus service. We have to find out ourself (through our another hotel) to make the arrangement. Up to 2 days before arrival, we still didn't know where and when to take the shuttle bus service.
2. Dinner and breakfast - we have to be sent to another restaurant (about 6 minutes drive away) to have our dinner & breakfast, imaging during the winter month of January (-17C) with our Yukata.... Furthermore, we have to be charged additional for the kaiseki dinner for our other 7 travelling family members because they were booked under different category of rooms. All the above were not communicated to us when we booked the hotel like 2-3 months earlier.
4.4
Open-air public bath - Please make sure you try their open-air public bath! 森乃汤 is our favourite (takes some walk from the hotel building but the experience was very nice!)
Shuttle bus from Sapporo city is infrequent.

Everything about the hotel. My first time experiencing Ryokan and it was wonderful. Unlike the review, quite a few staff at the reception area were able to speak English and they are friendly to foreigners. The outdoor onsen was great and with adequate privacy. Room was a bit too warm during winter with the heater turned on. There are timing for free beer and sakes, sochu etc. It's very worth it if you enjoy drinking.
Dinner was a little repetitive but it was good still.

true feeling of japan, very traditional, love the jap style room and tatami
the communication! our booking included dinner and breakfast, there are two restaurants at the hotel, but when we checked in, we were told our dinner is at another location, (800m away by shuttle and rated only 3.2 on google). I tried to get an explanation why we were allocated to that restaurant while most other guests can dine inside the building. I booked this hotel is to experience the Japanese fine dinning by also wearing their traditional cloth, so our family of four were wearing those traditional Japanese cloth with ski jacket outside, the shuttle took us to this restaurant and we still have a small walk at dark under snow, and it is -5 degrees! the food is great, dinning environment is good too, but honestly, I would have cancelled the booking if I knew about this is outside of the hotel building. I end up fell on the road when walking back to the shuttle after dinner. next morning, we were told again the breakfast is also at that restaurant, still, no explanation! we end up checked out first and drove over by our own car! throughout the entire communication, I have used three different apps to type: why we can’t eat in the hotel restaurant like other guests, and none of their staff is able to answer me, I think they have a reason but didn’t want to explain! this really ruined my entire experience at the hotel, the onsen is good though.

We loved staying at the Jozankei Daiichi Hotel Suizante! The whole experience (room, onsen, scenery, food, etc.) was the highlight of our entire trip. The whole atmosphere was so cozy. The lounge area with included snacks and beverages was also a nice touch. We would definitely come back and recommend the location to others.
Absolutely nothing. We loved our stay.

Clean and very nice interior in the ryokan rooms, staff are very friendly and helpful. However, the rooms are not sound proof at all, we can hear people walking/running upstairs all night and early in the morning, which prevents you from resting peacefully.
rooms are not sound proof, can hear so much noise from neighbours

The half board included in the room are both Japanese style which we enjoyed a lot.
