Good location, but needs upgrade to rooms

For the money we paid the Hotel provided us with everything we wanted. The room we had needs an upgrade, which i believe is happening soon. The bar and outside areas all was good

En suite needed a good clean / upgrade

Clean, adequate, fair right price for the room.

Cannot get a breakfast here, but in the high street. Plenty of places around. Free car park at back of hotel.

The Bedroom No.1. door lock didn't work, had to block door with chair. Certainly matched the price. Had a good night sleep once the restaurant downstairs went quiet. But definitely will try the restaurant here next time, looked great. Greek restaurant downstairs.

A bit of a let-down.

Our bed was very comfortable and onsite parking was plentiful and very handy.

The pub did not serve breakfast and the bar closed at 10pm, so no chance of a night-cap after we returned in the evening. Although the bed was very comfortable the bedroom was drab and in need of redecorating. The floors creaked (probably not surprising for a 16th century inn) and the only light was a chandelier in the ceiling - no bedside lights for reading. Also, it was a very hot night but there was only one fairly small opening window. The shower was not easy to adjust - the tap was too stiff for my wife to turn.

Good place to stay with potential to be amazing

Really comfy bed, staff friendly and welcoming, don't have to go through the bar to access room

Really needs more attention to detail, if you are not going to service rooms during guests stays you need to make sure there is enough basics eg toilet roll/bin space/ tea etc for their stay. Shelf in bathroom needs replacing.

Location fine

No breakfast (seriously!); Cleaner cleaned room but clearly didnt vaccuum as the crap that was on the caroet when j checked in was still there; Cleaner replaced tea, milk, biscuits but left my already used cup; Water pipes make a racket, all bloody night; Before 11am it was impossible to leave by the front door so had to walk all the way round to get into town; the bar shut at like 10pm on a saturday night…

Would I stay again probably not

The room was clean and the bed was comfy.

Every single floorboard creaked The bar staff weren't very friendly There was no choice but to go out for breakfast There was no explanation that off the 2 keys given one actually opened the rear door.

Never again.

My booking was cancelled by the hotel the day before my due date, on the pretence that they had flood. I had to book another hotel 4 miles out of Newbury which cost £50 more. I visited the Bacon Arms on booked morning asking for a room for the night, I was offered a room. When I asked about my booking being cancelled they were very aggressive and uncooperative.

As above The management did not tell the truth, they were rude and aggressive.

Front door locked in the morning and having to walk through the car park and round into the town.

Friendly staff and nice room

We were greeted by an incredibly friendly lady at reception who very kindly checked us in and showed us to our room. Great customer service! And the beds were very comfortable.

Very good

Everyone very friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Great location. Breakfast was wonderful.

When I checked out at 10.45 am there was no one at reception and front door was locked. Pity no dinner was available.
