The aesthetics, the location, the layout is all very traditional and gives a real authentic Tunisian vibe to it. They also have a balcony where breakfast is served (a really nice, traditional Tunisian breakfast made by the hosts!) where you’ll have the view of the minaret of zitouna mosque. It is located in the old city so it is just around the corner from the markets (the souk) and very close to zitouna mosque. You’ll be surrounded by locals if you wanted a more traditional experience. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful from the moment we entered until we left. She showed me the way to zitouna and made sure I learnt the way back and offered to do the same to where we were dining that evening. You will not be disappointed staying here!
As mentioned, it’s a transitional place in a traditional area which I know some people won’t be used to but it was good for us. Beds were comfy, AC was functioning and had a great location. Hot water a hit and miss but that maybe due to our lack of understanding on how to use it. Not that we needed it because of how hot the weather gets!

Very kind staff. Good value for money.
Location is in the middle of the old town, very good if you want to explore the area by feet. But it was almost impossible to reach the hotel with car.

It was our first stay in Tunis and Dar Kenza was the perfect place to stay. The house in the old town is great and the location in the medina is ideal for exploring and excursions in the enchanting medina. The street is quiet, although the bazaar is otherwise very busy.
The rooms are spacious, tidy and lovingly decorated. It was all there, what we needed for four days.
Breakfast on the roof terrace is also plentiful and interesting. You can see the minaret of the Great Mosque.
Lutfi and Dou'a are loving and lovely hosts who make you feel welcome and always help when needed.
We really enjoyed our stay in Dar Kenza and would love to come back.
Thank you very much Lutfi and Dou'a and all the best for the future!

First of all, Madam is so kind. The location is great. You can reach many famous and historical places by walk. You can also reach place de Barcelona metro station which connects to Tunis Marine Train( to go Sidi bousaid) by walk. The rooms of hotel is very traditional, cosy and clean. The breakfast is sufficient and includes some traditional food and hand-made jams. WiFi is good. The roof is great to have breakfast and you can have a look the old Medina city and take incredible photos. We were a family and felt comfortable. There were international guests.
No car traffic. You should walk around 3-4 mins however this is an opportunity to realise cultural and colorful doors of Medina and take photos.

Everything was excellent, a beautiful and clean apartment in the best part of the Medina, with all the necessary to cook and great breakfast. Very nice traditional house. Most importantly the owners are very kind persons and beautiful human beings always caring for the well-being of their guests. We had a medical emergency and they helped us, staying with us and accompanying us at all moment, the same for the neighbors that also helped. They helped us to solve the problem and thank god everything went well, they did it all without expecting anything in return. They are amazing human beings that will make your stay unique.
everything was fine

The lady who hosted us was amazing, kind, helpful and we had a great welcome.
We went during Ramadan and she invited us for suhur night, we had also nice iftar dinner on the terrace with great view of all the old city of Tunisi.
We're vegetarian and she easily provide us veg food.
Super recommended if you know to travel and you want to experience a place.
Thank you!

Dar Kenza is an authentic tunisian style place where you can meet very friendly, polite and helpful owners.
We really liked the home made breakfast ,especially the sweets.
Dar Kenza is the perfect choice-value for money - for exploring the Tunis Medina and the city center.
We are sorry that we did not have too much time to spend with the friendly owners. They are very nice people .

Can't praise this spot enough. We were held up at the airport until late in the evening because of a visa issue and our original hotel canceled our reservation. On a whim, with few options, we picked Dar Kenza Tunis as a replacement and I am so happy we made that decision! Hosts were very accommodating and stayed up to wait for us to arrive, and even called around to all the local restaurants to help us find late night food since we hadn't eaten all day sitting in customs at TUN.
The location is a prime within the medina, easy to get around, and the traditional Tunisian breakfast provided was excellent! If we had more than 1 day in Tunis we would have stayed longer for sure. Highly recommend to anyone traveling to the area that wants a more authentic experience.

Owned by a lovely family, this is a real gem. The owners, the location, the room and breakfast were all fantastic. The family goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable.

Wonderful, charming, flower covered little corner of the Medina, with two kind, generous hosts. The perfect base to explore from, plenty of space, great breakfast and an excellent roof terrace, can't recommend this place enough.
Everything was perfect, even when it rained...

The owners are really good people, they waited for us til 3.am, since we arrive very late and also got help from them to get there.
The location, right in the middle of the medina.
Nice simple breakfast.
Rooftop has a good view over the medina. Cozy and traditional room.

The hosts were very welcoming and lovely. We got on with them like our family. The train station (Tunis marine) is a 10-15 min walk and the train goes to tourist and scenic destinations like Carthage and Sidi bou said. There is also a direct coach to hammamet from the nearby coach station bab alioua. I would reccomend you to stay in this hotel to explore Tunis as well as other nearby cities like sousse and hammamet in Tunisia. I would visit again as the hospitality was great. Thank you

the administration is very helpful
there were no bin for the trash, not very hot water, bad towels. But we arrived at night otherwise we could ask for these things. I think the host would help

I stayed here twice, at the start and end of a longer trip to Tunisia. I first arrived on an early October afternoon, very overdressed for the much warmer climes than I had left in the North of England. The twisting winding streets of the old town were not suitable for a taxi (nor especially good for a wheeled suitcase), but eventually I found the cheerfully painted blue door of Dar Kenza where I was met with a warm welcome and very welcome cool shade and water. The hosts spoke mainly French and Arabic, but also had a little English. We sometimes had to talk around a subject, but we communicated well enough. A translation app might be useful to have on your phone, though.
The rooms I had booked were on the first floor, cheerful and colourful, furnished sparsely but comfortably and decorated with paintings by the hosts. The main room was air-conditioned. One of the bedrooms had a view over the street, but a good enough curtain to block out any street lighting. Other windows looked inwards, over the central courtyard of the building. The kitchenette had very basic amenties (a fridge, a sink, a hotplate) and the shower/toilet room was basic but clean. Breakfast was very tasty, served on the shady rooftop terrace that has some spectacular views over the city.
The location was very busy during the day, but became very quiet in the evening. (My first visit was a Wednesday evening, my second was a Sunday evening at the end of a religious holiday, so experience may differ on different dates.) There are cafes and restaurants a few minutes walk away, some of which seemed very popular with locals which can be a good indicator of quality. The streets were an absolute maze at first, but soon enough became familiar enough that we could find our way without constantly consulting a map.
The hosts were gracious and very welcoming, always ready to help when we needed advice or directions and making sure we felt safe and comfortable.
Not a place to choose if you have a lot of luggage! Cobbled streets aren't good for wheeled cases and it's several minutes walk to anywhere you might be able to get a taxi.

The location was great.
The lady that was our hostess was a super nice and gentle lady as well as her son who came and picked us up during our late arrival.
Our room was spacious and the building overall was traditional.
Breakfast was great and homemade - prepared by the lady her self.
our room had three single beds ,not a double one , which was our request in the first place. we were never informed that this particular supply was not available.
also the beds were extremely short…not suitable at all to tall guys. what is more the room was not clean and had visible dirt. from the curtains , to the floor and even the glasses inside the kitchen cabinet. the first night we didn’t have warm water as we were not informed what was the way to have it. and believe me, nobody could have guessed it as it was a really tricky one. we also did not have soap until the other day. in general during our whole stay at Tunisia, only one hotel had to offer bath foam and liquid soap. so remember to pack one. (I am referring to low budget accommodations yet value for money.)
finally , I believe that the huge disappointment was the fact that none of the photos ware representative of the particular room that we stayed at.

Breakfast was a high point. Excellent home cooked omelettes, brioche/beignet, cheese, and yogurt, coffee/tea with milk. The food was always fresh and local, and varied. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The location in the medina was quite an interesting experience. The three floor walkup was a challenge especially with bulky/heavy baggage due to the narrow stairs and very low ceilings. This is place is best suited to the young, and able bodied.
The bathroom was the main problem. The toilet seat was not affixed to the base resulting in slipping, My wife fell off once and cut her arm. The hot water in the shower was on-demand, but the gas had to be turned off between uses. This resulted in frequent runs of cold water after an intial warm start. It was not so much of an issue as cold showers were necessary with the heat of the evenings.

The accomodation excellent and beyond expections and excellent location. Very friendly and welcomed staff, we arrived in morning and as the appartment was occupied by previous night we were offered coffe and tea and at the terrace while the appartment getting vacated and cleaned. Staff offered tips how to book taxi by suggesting booking through apps and feeding us informations how to get travel to tourist sights. Paid the price it was quoted on booking.com not a cent more .Although located in narrow and pedestraned area in Medina (the old city) and difficult to find but as soon as we rang the reception a member of staff was send to guide us and carry our bags.
Nothing.

staff (owners in fact) very friendly, helpful and willing to improve, very big room including a kitchen, great location near the souk and many restaurants and historical building
poor mattress and pillows, lack of basic "funcional" equipment in the room (hangers, shower curtain, well placed light switch, poor wifi, furniture rather used

We recommend this place eagerly. The accomodation is a local house, nice, authentic and clean. We basically received an entire apartment with kitchen (refrigerator, stove).
The hostess is a gem, she treated us like she were our mother. Apart from being amiable and welcoming, she solves all and any problems that you might encounter, and checks if you need anything else. The whole family are actually very nice people ❤️
The breakfast! It is amazing! The food is diverse and everything is so delicious, that we tried to eat it all, and then walked full for the first half of the day :) You are especially lucky if you fall on a bambalouni day.

Really good location, in the medina, close to the entrance. The decorations are rustic Tunisian themed, with pretty paintings, including some painted by one of the owners himself. It was very clean and exactly like the pictures on the site. The rooftop is arranged as a beautiful terrace with traditional decorations, offering a scenic view of the Medina and the rest of the city. You can relax here and it is also the place where they serve breakfast,. The food is Tunisian style and very good, cooked by the owners themselves, : coffee, juice, yoghurt, jam, boiled eggs, pain au chocolat and good bread (not like the cheap baguettes you get elsewhere). The owners themselves are very, very charismatic and kind, and will help you out with anything you need, making you feel at home.
There isn't much to say bad about it. Maybe that the rooms are a bit dark. Also (and this goes for all of Tunisia, really), you're not going to do much with just English.
