About this house rental
UPDATE: November, 2024, Hurricane Helene September 27, 2024
Thank you for your interest in staying in the Continental Divide Retreat on Apple Mountain.
As you have probably seen in the news, WNC suffered from Hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024. The surrounding communities experienced significant damage from wind and flooding.
We’re pleased to share that the Continental Divide Retreat, with electricity, internet, and water, remains untouched by the hurricane. Our serene retreat is ready to offer you a peaceful stay with the amenities you expect.
Many local stores and restaurants experienced water damage and have been under repair. With the help of an army of volunteers, progress has been made. We are hopeful that they will all be open soon.
Walmart, which is only a mile from the Retreat, is fully stocked with food and supplies.
Restaurants are opening with either inside seating or carry-out. Most of the major attractions in the surrounding areas are open. Ski Resorts: Sugar, Appalachian, and Beech are open, as well as the Biltmore House in Asheville and Grandfather Mountain opened October 23.
With road repair comes big trucks and heavy equipment. You will find many side roads being worked on and utilities being restored.
We ask that guests coming to the area stay on the main roads and highways. Please do not interfere with the recovery, nor be a gawker at other people's misfortune.
OUR GUESTS SAY IT BEST!

This property is beautiful with amazing views. We were all very comfortable in our rooms. The weather did not allow us to sit outside, but we enjoyed the views through the large windows. We stayed in and tried watching March Madness. We had issues with the TV in the main room. Overall a great place to stay!

Perfect family mountain retreat!
Our granddaughter wanted to celebrate her 9th birthday in the mountains and go snow tubing. The home was perfect for a family getaway. The hosts have thought of everything. The mountain view from the home are spectacular! The fireplace was cozy and everyone was comfortable. The tubing at Jonas Ridge was so much fun that the grandkids with their parents went a second time! We all want to come back and enjoy the home during a warmer season when we could take advantage of the wonderful porch with panoramic mountain view!

Fabulous Retreat!
We truly enjoyed our stay at Continental Divide Retreat. It was very comfortable for our family gathering of 10 persons with enough space to have private time when needed. The property was well-cared for, tastefully decorated, and had a fabulous view from the back porch. We had the opportunity to see one sunset from the deck and it was breathtaking. We have stayed in rental properties throughout the world, and this is the best property we have rented. We would love to come back someday!

Wonderful house with wonderful view
What a wonderful location and property! Lila was a pleasure to work with on arrangements and responded quickly to our one issue. The house is fabulous. Beautifully decorated, very comfortable beds - even the murphy bed downstairs, lots of towels. Kitchen was a pleasure to work in - so well equipped with pots, pans, hot pads etc.. AC and water all worked great. Love all the lighting options. Thanks for the local history books too! And you can't beat the back deck with it views of the valley and mountains beyond - gorgeous sunsets! Thoroughly enjoyed meals in Spruce Pine. The mountain biker in our group got a great workout!

Let’s just start with the views are amazing !The house is so nice and cozy. The beds are very comfortable with plenty of linens and extra covers. It was a little cold at the beginning of our trip. As other reviewers have noted, the winds can whip up the side of the mountain and howl. The house didn’t budge. If it weren’t for the trees swaying you would not know it was windy. There are tons of puzzles. We worked on one for a few days. Wifi was strong which is good since some of our cell signal drops - we use Verizon. Others may have better service. There are a few spots driving down the mountain to town where you lose service for a bit. We loved watching all the birds come tot he feeder every morning. Our favorite was catching the sunsets at night - just beautiful. If you are planning to visit different hikes all throughout the mountains, just plan accordingly for drive time. Some of the Blue Ridge Parkway was still closed during our visit which meant we had to drive mountain roads to get to many places adding extra drive time. The scenery is beautiful so it was an adventure in itself. We had our children ages 18-14 and mother in law staying with us. The house accommodated is all nicely. I highly recommend the tub in the master after a long day of hiking. We would totally stay here again. Thanks Dave for sharing your home with us!!

Beautiful property and view.
We had a wonderful week at the Continental Divide with four adults! The house is so comfortable and well appointed, with plenty of kitchenware, linen etc. More than enough for a big group. Plenty of spices, cleaning supplies, paper towels etc. too, which is a very nice touch. And as icing on the cake, the house was truly spotless! My husband and I have stayed at dozens of rental properties over the years, but none was as clean as this one. Kudos to the cleaning crew! The covered deck is huge and in the first few days we spent quite a bit of time there, enjoying the warm days and very mild evenings. The view is absolutely stunning, changing constantly with sun and clouds and fog rolling in and out. We spent many hours sitting in the breakfast nook, which offered a great view of the mountains. We had every possible kind of weather you could imagine, from dense fog, to bright sunny days, to howling, hurricane force winds, and freezing temperatures! Especially the last few days and night were very windy. We figured it's because the house is so high up on a ridge, forcing the wind upward. Down in the valley the wind was always much less. The last two lanes leading up to the house are very narrow and fairly steep. Quite tricky when you encounter another car. We drove a minivan and had no trouble at all, but I'd hate to drive those roads in snowy/icy conditions. The area is gorgeous, being so close to the Blueridge Parkway. We missed the peak of fall colors by a week or so, I estimate, but it was still very beautiful with plenty of color and gorgeous scenery. This house will be on our short list of properties to revisit in the future.

Second Visit Was Great Too!
We are repeat renters and because of what this property offers we plan to return again and again! This home has several features that makes it stand out from other rentals. It's location is perfect for spending time on the Blue Ridge Parkway, wanting to experience the peace and quite of the mountains, and giving you a million dollar view with glorious sunsets. It also offers lots of space for a family to spread out yet provides good spots for "together-time". What also makes this property stand out from others is the manager, Lila. Because of the pandemic, we had a few "special requests" and she took extra efforts to make sure our stay would be safe and a 5-Star experience. The cleaner also gets a 5-Star rating for making the house spotless and well disinfected (in the bathrooms you could detect a slight scent of bleach). So, if your looking for a safe rental, this home works very well. Even the Walmart that's only 5 minutes away will deliver groceries to this location for a small fee.

Tranquility and sunsets
In looking for locations to rent, I debated whether it would be more enjoyable to have a mountain view or a babbling brook and am so glad the view was the deciding factor. Each night we sat on the rocking chairs or porch swing on the back porch and marveled at the show. With a vista that spans 180 degrees and too many to count layers of mountain ridges, the sun lite up the sky each night. The "show" was different every night depending on the wind and clouds. It was the perfect way to end each day!
As everyone has noted, the house is ideal for groups or a couple like us. It was so fully stocked that it hands-down beat any other rental we have used in any state. In COVID times cleanliness is key and the 3 floors were obviously cleaned to meet that level of need. We had a few black ants appear after our first day and texted Lila, who promptly responded and had professional exterminators on the property within 24 hours, which ended the ants.
As far as a good night's sleep, the house has numerous beds with comfortable mattresses. The master bedroom has a soft pillow top option. All the rooms have curtains to allow you to sleep in beyond sunrise if you wish. We both agree, we are dreaming of another visit, maybe in the fall, to see more sunsets! Thank you for providing such a tranquil home for us these past 2 weeks.

Bliss!
We had a wonderful time!!! It’s so rare to find a mountain house with a stunning view and also an easy drive. The house is well maintained and very comfortable. The kitchen was much better stocked than almost any rental I’ve ever stayed in. We can’t wait to come back next year!

If you love the Mtns - You MUST stay here
Not only are the house and owner wonderful - the view and location are simply the best. We visited slightly after the peak fall color season but it was still breathtaking. I can't say enough good things about this property - go stay and see - you won't regret it :)

Surprising Spruce Pine
We had no idea what to expect in Spruce Pine but we were not disappointed! The house was wonderful. My daughter came to visit me and my husband and although our stay was short we enjoyed it very much. Talked to Lila who was very helpful. Only one suggestion. My husband has some issues with mobility so a handicap type toilet in the master as well as hand rails near the toilet and in the shower would have helped a lot. Still had a wonderful stay and we enjoyed our time in the Continental Divide Retreat!
