This vacation home is located on the east side of Oak Island in a quiet neighborhood just off the main street, Oak Island Drive. Virtually every restaurant, specialty shop, store and entertainment venue are located along this road. The beach is only 1/4 mile away!
This vacation rental welcomes up to three dogs per reservation year-round.
A splash park, skate park, putt-putt golf, kayak and canoe launch, fishing pier, soccer field, basketball, kickball and tennis courts are some, but not all, of the activities to be found within an eight-mile radius of this property. Special events during the summer include open air movies and concerts and a Farmers’/Artisans’ Market every Saturday. Across the Barbee Bridge, approximately 7.5 miles away, is the tourist-friendly old fishing village of Southport with antique shops, a movie theater and more restaurants.
The kitchen is fully stocked and wittily decorated, as is the entire home, with beach themes. Sleeping accommodations are available in two queen beds, two single beds and two sets of single bunk beds on the first floor. Two and one-half bathrooms serve the first floor, adjacent to one of which is the laundry room. The second floor has only the king bedroom and a private bathroom. The living room has valances, an extra-large TV. There is DVD players in the home and wireless internet access. The family dog is welcome here.
A significant bonus feature in this home is the Florida-style game room on the first level with large screen TV, DVD’s, books and games, foosball and a pool table. The home also provides the option of a golf cart rental for an additional $500 per stay to help you get to the beach with ease. The golf cart also includes a town parking permit for your convenience, allowing this vehicle to park free of charge in Town of Oak Island Public parking spaces.
From the front, this house presents the façade of a home where the front is the best of the outdoor amenities with white rocking chairs looking out at mature-growth trees, a well-maintained yard and garage, but it is not for parking. But…the back of the house is a whole extra bonanza!
The backyard has a brick patio surrounding a regulation-style pool that is open year-round but is not heated, and a whirlpool spa hot tub. The pool is surrounded by chairs and a hammock. Also, in this fun area is a large fire pit with conversational grouping of chairs, charcoal park grill and a delightful tiki bar, compete with jaunty décor and wet bar.
Whether enjoying the many amusements in Oak Island and Southport or staying at home to take advantage of all the pleasures of your vacation home, this is a premier spot for an active group.

The property was as described. There was a musty odor when we first walked in, but spraying it with Lysol fixed that pretty quickly. There’s also small smell of urine in the carpeted areas. But that’s to be expected for a pet friendly property. I was not a fan of the carpeted bedroom upstairs But we just wore shoes the whole time. I would suggest renting the golf cart because it made things so much easier. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to renting again in the future.

This home was perfect for our family. Plenty of room and lots to keep everyone busy. We all think it could use an update of the bedding. Not comfortable for sleeping. But everything else was wonderful!!

Perfect family getaway!
Our stay at the Barbee Beach House was amazing! The house was very spacious and fit our large family perfectly. We had a blast in the pool and hot tub! This was our first time visiting Oak Island and thanks to our wonderful stay at this beach house, we will definitely be back! Everything was as advertised and all the stores were just minutes away if you needed to make a quick store run. We had a great time! :)

A wonderful vacation home for a group!
We had four adults and four children, and there was plenty of rom for everyone. The kitchen is well equipped the bedding is comfortable. The best part for us was the pool and tiki bar! We also appreciated having beach chairs and toys at the house so we did not have to bring our own.

Much needed vacay
This property was great. Clean and welcoming I just wish Oak Island itself was a step up. This house was the best thing about the trip it truly was the one thing we enjoyed and the only good thing.

Overall decent
property had a few things that didn't work,
Hot tub was broken, some of the exterior lights didn't work, the house was fairly clean although it could have used a good dusting. The air filters were clogged and I replaced them during my stay. Overall good experience and nice property

Lots of potential
Great house and location however the house needs some TLC and better house keeping. There was a lot of miscellaneous items thrown in the garage and closets and the kitchen cabinets were full of used items. The kitchen plates, utensils, pots and pans, various kitchen accessories, etc were very "used". It was almost as if someone lived there for 15 years or so and just left everything behind and opened the house for rent. The house should have been emptied and refreshed before putting on VRBO.
From my understanding this is a new rental so hopefully these minor issues will be addressed quickly.

Barbee Beach house
Booking and check in went well. Unfortunately when we opened the door we were met with an overwhelming smell of cat urine and the kitchen and main living areas were not cleaned. Cat urine smells remained despite cleaning crew coming out. The pool was low on water and needed cleaning. The hot tub would not heat up either. First three days of vacation we had to deal with cleaning crews and maintenance people showings up repeatedly. Parts of the yard and front deck were unusable due to being over grown and poorly maintained. The house has potential but was not clean and in general disrepair. It is extremely overpriced for the condition it was in. Dealing with all the issues put a damper and time constraints on our trip. The house has potential, the beach and community are great. Too bad it worked out the way it did.
