We were blessed to snap up a last minute cancelation at Whale of a View cottage. It was our first time staying on Campobello and we were not disappointed. While the cabin hasnt been updated recently it is clean and comfortable. The kids loved the bunkbeds, tire swing and hammock. We all enjoyed the screened porched and smores around the fire pit. Even though it was cool my wife enjoyed the quiet solitude of the Eagles Nest gazebo for morning devotions. We had two separate whale sightings and the kids loved watching the boat traffic. Dennis checked on us briefly upon our arrival and I had a great chat before we left. We will be back at some point and will definitely reccomend to others.

We loved this quaint cabin setting right on the water on Campobello Island. The owner was so easy to work with and the description on VRBO was spot on. The cabin was spotless and stocked very well with the basics we needed. If ever in the area again we will definitely stay at Wilson Beach!!

Once again Campobello Island did not disappoint! We have been here several times now and love it, especially the Whale of a View cottage! It is the perfect getaway for us - beautiful evenings on the deck, mornings too! It is our happy place, we simply love it there :) Dennis and Margaret are wonderful hosts.

This place is lovely, and it more that lives up to the name Whale of a View. If you’re looking for a peaceful quiet getaway, look no further. The screened porch (a rarity in the area for some reason) really extends the living space and was where we spent much of our time and where we are all of our meals. We had perfect weather and saw so many whales. The bed was super comfortable, the water piping hot, and having laundry machines was a great plus for our three week stay. We’d definitely stay here again.

First Timers
Lovely cottage. It had a very comfy and relaxing feeling to it- and had a sense it belonged to the island. The screened deck/room was perfect as was the outer deck. The views were as displayed and expressed - though even better. Perfect location on the island. I would recommend.

Slice of Heaven
This property is definitely a little slice of heaven. The 3 bedroom house is beautifully furnished but we spent very little time inside! The new addition of the deck was an exciting surprise. Sit on the deck, screened in porch, gazebo or in front of the fire - Beautiful views from every vantage point to watch for whale, seals, eagles and watch the lobster boats pickup their daily catch. Cook meals yourself or enjoy one of the wonderful restaurants close by. Beaches, hiking, relaxing - this location can not be beat!

Just what the Doctor Ordered a secluded getaway!
What can we say? Or four days at whale of a view we're absolutely PERFECT for us. We needed a place to de-stress and regroup and whale of a view didn't disappoint at all!
What you see is what you get with the view.... what they don't tell you is there are 4 bald eagles that live two doors down who like to display their artisan skills frequently. We saw an ospray, a heron, various hawks and other birds. We also got photo evidence of a seals nose... though we didn't see the rest of him.
A real bonus for us was the ferry service was extended through October so we got to explore Deer Island... complete with deer sightings and we had lunch on the waterfront in St. Andrews.
Overall, just what we needed... when we needed it. Enjoy!

Outstanding views
We spent two nights at Whale of a View cottage and loved it. The views from the deck and screened in porch (and the master bedroom!) were spectacular. We didn't feel like we had to go anywhere - loved sitting outside watching for whales and boats going by. The cottage is clean and cozy, and full of interesting vintage prints and books about the area. Dennis our host was very friendly. Would definitely return.

Great Getaway
This cottage was just what we needed to enjoy and relax during our week off from work. The view from the screened-in porch was breathtaking and probably where we spent most of our time, just reading and taking in the random sightings of wildlife (whales, rabbits and a variety of birds).

Breath taking view
My family and I had a very relaxing experience at "Whale of a View" cottage. The scenery was breathtaking and there were many opportunities to view the local wildlife, including whales. The cottage was very comfortable, and Denis was a fantastic host.

Great!
We stayed here about 10-11 years ago, and the improvements to the property were great (additional bedroom w/great ocean view, screened-in porch and an additional deck). We liked it 11 years ago and liked it even more this time. Still has spectacular water & wildlife views! Never did figure out the TV.

Perfect getaway!
We had a lovely visit to Campobello with our boys for the marathon weekend. Gorgeous sunsets, comfortable bed, and a perfect away-from-it-all feel. The kids especially loved the Eagles Nest, and next time we would try to eat a meal down there. We must have been too early to see whales which is our only regret!

Stellar in all ways!
This was our first trip to Campobello Island and boy did we pick the right place to stay. The views are jaw dropping and ever changing. The cottage was cozy, clean and comfortable. The new deck and the screen room are great hangouts with sunsets that knock you out. The gazebo down nearer to the water is over the top. Whale watches right down the street and the island is a must see for natural beauty and serenity. We were a bit early to see the big whales but on the whale watch we did see 3 Minke's and seals and porpoises. Eagles flying overhead every day. What a place! Do not hesitate-really.

Breathtaking views from a beautiful deck!
This property was very clean and inviting. . The owner Dennis Haire contacted us when we arrived to be sure all was as it should be. He was in the process of adding a beautiful new deck and wanted to be sure that it was ready for us to use he was in the process of adding a beautiful new deck and wanted to be sure that it was ready for us to use. Outstanding and Restorative to the Soul - What a Gem!
Our time on Campobello could not have been better. The Haires are splendid hosts and could not have been more accommodating. Despite a slight glitch in booking that had the cottage not ready the first day due to a recent remodeling project, Dennis and Margaret absolutely went above and beyond to ensure we could stay in one of their other cottages that night and then move to the Whale of a View or stay in the alternative if we preferred. (Options!) The cottages are not fancy, but each is fully equipped with everything you might need and situated to take in the fantastic views and still allow a sense of privacy. The Whale of a View totally earns its name.
We enjoyed the many books on the history of the area and the island. When not tucked in at the cottage reading, watching the lobster boats below and the eagles above, we hiked the many trails at the Roosevelt Park and hit the shores to search for sea glass. Found lots of it! It was still quite chilly in late April, so we made use of the firepit while watching the sunset on evenings when it wasn’t too windy. On clear nights, the stars are amazing.
Thank you, Dennis and Margaret for your hospitality and care. We can’t wait to return during the season so we can watch for whales from the comfort of one of your very special cottages!

Cosy cottage
We spent about 3 days here during the second week in October. It is an older cottage, but extremely cosy. Due to the lateness of the season, restaurant and boat activity was minimal, but we enjoyed exploring the island in the car and on foot. The views of the ocean both from the cottage and as you hike around, are beautiful.

The most amazing little cottage with terrific views
The cottage was perfect for our needs and we loved our stay. The bathroom facilities need a little updating but absolutely usable and adequate for our needs. The position of the cottage is its shining star and the wildlife outside the window is all the entertainment you could need. We would happily recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking for the perfect relaxation getaway.

Very good..view fantastic. Cottage needed renovation to bath and kitchen sink.
View was great. Lawn furnishings fine. As above we were discussing our disappointment with the bathroom. It really needs improvement.

Wondefully relaxing and beautiful!!
We stayed in a 'Whale of a View Cottage' for a week and loved every minute of it! My husband and myself were absolutely amazed at the view as we walked into the cottage, our first view out from the porch, was of a whale. We hadn't even brought in our luggage and already had our first of 6 whale sightings from the porch!! The view is amazing and like other reviewers have said, you will want to spend your whole time there!!
The cottage is adorable and the bedroom is so so comfy. We had cocktails in the gazebo and the stairs were fine for us, Many days as we sat on the porch or the gazebo, eagles would fly by at our height, so that we were actually very close to them and it was a real treat, we looked forward to this every day!!
Dennis and his family were wonderful to us, we arrived a day early, and they graciously found a place for us to stay close by which included our dog, so we were very thankful for the help. Dennis was there if needed and gave us some good hints on what to do while visiting.
We visited the Head harbor lighthouse a mile down the road at high and low tide. We walked over to see it up close at low tide and that is quite an experience, especially since we had just gone through the same passage that we walked on, the day before on our whaling boat at high tide!!
We had tea at the Roosevelt's, tried to join the cocktail party but it was full, visited the Roosevelt home and lunched at the Prince cafe, all very enjoyable. We walked on many of the carriage trails and hiking trails daily. The views were amazing, the views were amazing from the entire Island!!
We golfed and had lunch afterwards at the club and the staff was delightful. The course is fun.
We had dinner at the cottage mostly and also once in Lubec, and the other nights we ate at the Pier, with great food and Mark was wonderful as were his waitresses. Campobello is very quiet and relaxing, we found much to do and only left the island once for dinner.
Our whale watching tour with 'Island Cruises' was so much fun. Not a lot of people and within 15 minutes we were with 2 humpback whales, close to shore and no one was seasick!! Loved the captain and Robert, they made sure that we all had great views of the whales! It is worth a trip just to see Head harbor, it is a beautiful place.
So glad we stayed at Whale of a View, it was one of the best places and had everything there that we could need!!

Great get-away!
We stayed at the Whale of a View cottage June, 2018. It was a wonderful place to stay and really made our vacation special. The cottage is so comfortable, with plenty of seating, dining areas, and not only a screened in deck but also a gazebo closer to the water. There is also a fire pit in the yard with Adirondack chairs and hammock overlooking the water. We spent many hours on the deck watching the water, tides, boats and wildlife. So relaxing! The cottage is well-equipped with linens and kitchen items. There is a lot to do on the island if you want to: Roosevelt cottage and park with many trails and roads to discover along with Tea with Eleanor; East Quoddy Lighthouse is just up the road, boat tours to see whales and eagles and dolphins; easternmost sunrise at West Quoddy Lighthouse (in the US); many wharfs and beaches to explore. There are some good restaurants and seafood carry-out places. Recommend getting your groceries at the IGA in Lubec and get gas before you cross. Limited groceries on the island and no gas. Dennis made the whole reservation process easy, answered our questions quickly and called to check in with us to make sure everything was good. Many thanks to he and Margaret for sharing their home with us. Can't wait to come back.

Beautiful Place
We had thought that Whale of a View was merely a clever name for a cottage until we saw our first whale within hours of arrival. Scanning the beautiful view from sea side cliff on which the the cottage is located, we also saw eagles and seals and large boats and small. Whale of a View cottage is in a most dramatic setting. All the superlatives you may read about Campobello are true and this cabin is a great place from which to experience them.
The cottage is fully equipped with towels, sheets and cooking equipment of all sorts including an outdoor charcoal grill. There are also comfortable outdoor Adirondack chairs anda fire pit. The internet worked great both inside the cottage and outside.
During the course of our two week stay, I called Dennis, our host, regarding some minor problems. Despite being in Indiana, he sent someone over to address the problems within the hour! That was totally unexpected service and is much appreciated.
In sum, we had a terrific vacation and fell in love with Campobello for many reasons. It's a lovely place, its people are warm and friendly and our residence, the Whale of a View cottage was just right.

It is a wonderful piece of paradise.
We had an amazing stay. The cottage is perfect, all the comforts of home with the most amazing view. We sat in the covered deck and watched whales breach, porpoises chasing the fish and bald eagles majestically flying by and trying to do some fishing. The island itself is small and extremely friendly, everybody waves. We were lucky enough to chat with a local and she directed us to a couple of hidden coves that are beyond beautiful. The owner of our rental was there to welcome us and back to say goodbye. He was wonderful to talk to and made us feel completely at home. Already planning a trip back next summer!!
