About this house rental
Beach front cottage located directly on Shore Road in historic Townbank offers such a perfect beach stay you will want to return year after year! Whether you are looking for a family vacation, couple's retreat or simply to reconnect with a group of friends, this property is equipped and located to provide wonderful memories that will last your lifetime.
This is a two bedroom, one full bath home, which comfortably sleeps six and is located right on Shore Road with an amazing view above the dunes from the sun room for daily dolphin and sunset watching. Townbank is affectionately known as “Sunset Beach” and offers spectacular sunset viewing every night. People come from all around just to watch the grand colors provided nightly as the sun sinks slowly into the horizon over the water. Staying here ensures you the premium, unobstructed view of this daily event from both inside the home or the fenced in yard at no additional cost!
The home does offer central air conditioning, however guests equally enjoy opening the many windows to fully experience the ocean breeze, peaceful lapping waves and sea gulls beckoning you to enjoy your day on the quiet, non-crowded beach which awaits just outside your door. This area is perfect for strolling about on the beach (no beach tags required!) or biking along the safe shore road that runs directly in front of the cottage.
The Cape May-Lewis Ferry is just about one mile down the road. If you want to hit the boardwalk at night, Cape May is 10 minutes by car and Wildwood is just as close. Nearby there are wineries, shops, galleries and gourmet restaurants. Harpoon Henry's, a beach front restaurant and tiki bar, is just a few blocks walk down the road and a great place to dine in a Key-West type environment if you aren't in the mood to cook! You can have a few drinks and simply walk home; no need to worry about driving! A quick trip to the market is only a few minutes by car. Major highways are accessible just outside of town, yet traffic is not a problem while staying in Townbank. The “small town feel” is comforting while strolling or biking throughout the town.
The house is comfortably furnished for your enjoyment and offers updated kitchen appliances, two bedrooms plus additional sleeping in pull-out sofa beds. The eat in dining room for six is beautifully furnished and is next to the living room where you can relax watching cable television, reading or chatting. The grand sun room offers additional dining while overlooking the water, or just a place to hang-out and watch the dolphins or sunsets.
The cottage sits in a large, white picket fenced in yard and offers plenty of space for outdoor fun. Our property actually consists of four lots, but we only have two cottages on it, leaving ample yard space. Beach access is simply through the gate, down the short, gently sloping dune and you are on our quiet, peaceful, non-crowded beach. It's easy to go back and forth from your “beach camp” to access a snack, drink or the bathroom as you enjoy the tranquil setting of what seems to be a private beach.
Booking your vacation couldn't be simpler! Check our calendar for availability and rate that are extremely reasonable for beach front property.

Perfect place to stay for the best sunset ever. Any questions I had owner responded immediately
Townebank is a quiet friendly town. Only a view miles from Cape May
Panoramic view of the water private beach is very nice

We loved staying at this VRBO property! Loved the bay. We had some issues with the yard, as there were sticky weed balls with very sharp parts. Our dog got some on herself and our fingers were bbbbleeding.

This home is in a beautiful location. We were able to walk from the house to the beach in our bare feet. Once at the beach it felt like you had the place to yourself! The set-up is perfect for a family. We loved being able to sit on the porch with the windows open while closing the glass door to the rest of the house to keep the air conditioning inside. It had everything we needed! Easy drive to downtown Cape May and Wildwood. Easy drive to Cape May Brewing. Within walking distance to Harpoons restaurant which had great food and drinks. The beach in this area is very calm and allows for paddle boarding, kayaking, and general floating. Able to fish from the beach. When there was not a coffee pot, the host sent us one in the mail! I was very impressed with the kindness as I have never had a host respond that quickly to my request!

We have been to Cape May many times but this was the first time for my 7-month-old grandson and my daughter and son-in-law's 2-year-old German Shepherd. This was the perfect place for us we really loved it. We felt very comfortable and if we couldn't get out outside because of the heat we could still sit inside and look out the wonderful sunroom windows. We hope to come back again next summer this has been an excellent experience for our family. One thing I would really like to see is new mattresses. That was my only issue I had trouble sleeping on the twin bed and I woke up with my back hurting. Otherwise everything else was excellent!

The view was about the only thing that was nice about this place. Let me start by saying we did not expect perfect, but we were disappointed considering the amount we paid to stay here. Had I not wanted to disappoint my kids, we wouldn’t have stayed. We left a day early because we had enough. Mouse poop in the cabinets, flies, camel crickets in the closets, dirt everywhere, stained carpets, WiFi that didn’t work, doors that had broken locks, broken toaster, no coffee maker as stated, broken toilet seat, broken shower curtain rod that falls off if you move the curtain, junk scattered outside the property, poison oak growing everywhere, sand and trash under the couches, loud squeaky beds anytime you move, light fixtures with no covers, air conditioning that was super cold one hour and hot the next. And no controlling it although we tried. Outlets that didn’t work and cannot be up to code. I could go on and on. Like I said, we didn’t expect perfect and we really aren’t picky, but this place needs some major cleaning, decluttering, and pest control. That being said, I’d love a refund leaving a day early because of the conditions there.

We have rented this property three times now and it never disappoints. The Sun Room is spectacular. It could use a few cosmetic enhancements, but other than that, it's clean and perfectly located.

We had a wonderful time. A great place to stay with our dogs.

Great location and sunsets, and good for dogs. Those are the positives. However, the yard is cluttered with broken beach furniture that has been there since we left last summer. The blinds on the door have been broken since we started coming to this place 4 years ago. Some broken shades on front sunroom. Gate to the yard is broken (doesn’t stay closed). Neither the inside or outside has changed in 4 years and most likely longer. Same stains on the rugs are still there. Up until this year, we’ve overlooked all of that b/c of the location, view and dog friendliness. But the lack of care and maintenance of this property really takes away from the overall enjoyment.

Love the location. Needs updating. ESP bath tub, housekeeping, more comfortable beds.

We loved our stay at this cute beachfront cottage. The house perfectly fit our needs, and our dogs loved going to the bay in the morning and late afternoon during the dog-friendly hours. We had a great time using the beach kayak that came with the property. And the view from the sunroom is amazing! Gary was super friendly and gave us some good suggestions for places in the area to visit during our stay. We hope to be back next summer!

The cottage is cute and comfortable and the location is fantastic. There were stains on carpet as previously pointed out by others, and dirt/lost animal toys, dog food under furniture. (I guess to be expected in pet friendly place, though have not experienced that in many other pet friendly's we have stayed at) The key was not where we were told upon check in (lock box hanging in tree wouldn't open, finally found it under railing). The door was open come to find out. Couldn't figure out how to lock the door (maybe last people couldn't either, hint: hold handle up and turn dead bolt) Left 2 voice messages and a message through VRBO to owner, no response for 2 days. (he did state he lost his phone) Despite some problems, I loved it here, reminded me of a cottage in Maine I stayed at as a child every summer, and can overlook the other stuff. Maybe owner should look for different cleaners, just a suggestion. I would happily return however.

Great quiet location for family and small children. Nice cold air conditioning. Fenced in yard for fur babies. Bay right across quiet street. Fantastic location for Fourth of July fireworks. Quick trip to downtown Cape May for adult dinners. Grocery 5 minutes away.

The location was perfect for us. The views were phenomenal. The blinds in the sun room are broken and one of the screens is torn. The house is old and it smells old. It is not the cleanest. I realize that this is usually the compromise that large breed dog owners have to make. There were no bed sheets provided but in the binder of instructions it says to leave them at the end of stay for laundering. The mattresses are uncomfortable so a heads up to people with back issues. The ice maker in the fridge doesn’t work and neither did the light in the fridge. Being able to watch the sunset from the sunroom and living room and sleeping to the sound of the waves with our German shepherd dog with us made it worth it for us.

Location is amazing but property is dirty and needs a thorough renovation including the yard. I also felt spied upon when owner was staying next door. Mouse droppings in house was a particular negative.

This is our second time staying I’m on Gary’s property last year we rented the grey cottage and this year the front house. The sunsets and solitude really can’t be beat. My dog loves it here as well.

This is the perfect cottage by the ocean. Nice fenced in yard which is wonderful since the property is dog friendly. The property has air conditioning and heat, a nice sized kitchen table that could easily sit six people. The front porch is enclosed and I sat out there every morning looking at the ocean drinking my coffee. Plenty of seating area, a queen size bed in one room and two twin sized beds in the other bedroom with one bathroom. Check in was easy and the location was absolutely perfect. Beautiful sunsets just like the pictures show in the listing. I will definitely book here again!

We really enjoyed our vacation in Town Vank ….we are already talking about next year. The owner is very kind and friendly - no fuss. And he loves dogs ♥️

Really want to give this a 5. But the house needs some help. It’s good, not great, but it was clean. It’s in a perfect location, and has incredible potential.
Much of the inside furniture is pretty beat. Reminded me of a family friend’s house we visited in the 60s, and some of the furniture and faded prints are still hanging around.
Good new TVs. Great front porch, but again old furniture/chairs. Wish the windows were clean enough to see out of.
And if the old wallpaper was removed in kitchen and bedrooms along with the faded pictures that would help 100%.
The bedrooms are very small. The floors really slippery - had to get a small rug so our dog could get some traction when trying to get up.
The yard needs a good deal of attention, very overgrown. I kept noting how if all that was cleaned out and planted with some nice grasses, add some mulch and rock, it would be great.
Bathroom fairly new but could not read the note above the faucet (the ink on paper in a shower doesn’t bode well).
We were pulling sticky burrs from our feet, clothes and worse, our dog’s paws. Lots of bunny poop everywhere. The side can use a rock path or something so the yard stuff doesn’t get tracked in when walking to the door from the car.
And wasps chased us in the back door, coming from the brush on either side.
Nice that there’s beach chairs, a kayak, a picnic table. But there’s a chiminea in the dry brush (maybe just for decoration, would hope but there was firewood?) and an old smoker/grill that’s completely rusted out with no bottom at all and useless. Why not throw it out?
Thrilled to find the house and was good for this trip. If you’re not expecting anything beyond a clean place to sleep, can bring your dog, with an awesome view, it’s great.
Hoping when we return to the area the house actually has had some real remodeling/updating as noted. Some of it doesn’t seem that hard to do and would make the price/value more aligned.

We loved the cottage and the location! The beach was clean and the water was calming! The kayak was a hit and our dog enjoyed it as well! Most of all, we loved the sunsets every night! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
2.0 / 5.0
This house is a dated cottage with some updates like toilet, bathroom sink, laminate flooring. Many burrs in yard so careful for furry friends. We wore shoes at all times inside bec they came into house with the dog. Beach quiet and it’s awesome to be able to walk across street to the pathway. House needs deep cleaning and decluttering. Basement door kept opening and very musty old smell frequently existed along with the few closets. Pet stains on area rug. Completely rusted grill with bottom almost gone, impossible to use. Few electrical outlets worked and lights often flickered in kitchen, bathroom and dining room, spotty WIFII.

I don’t like leaving bad reviews so I’ll say the view and location are outstanding! But that said, I would not rent here again

Terrific location across the street from the beach. Wonderful views of the sun setting over the Delaware Bay. Beautiful beaches with calm water. Dogs welcome.

This place was awful. Never had a bad rental experience before. We rented for 4 nights and left after 2. Mice were bad! Like mouse poop all over. I’m pretty sure they painted over mold on the ceiling. Might be haunted. The “grill” was literally rusted out- had no bottom and grills were rusted. It can’t have worked in the past 5 years. Same with beach chairs. There were readers digests from 2015 and other random crap just sitting around, trash piled up in a corner and paint and wallpaper in disrepair. Very unsafe and unsanitary for us and our baby. Contacted the host - no response. Also didn’t get anything back from VRBO. It’s like if your great aunt died 3 years ago and suddenly found out she had a beach house.

A Gem by the sea!
Location and view are spectacular. Our first trip with our dogs who loved the large yard. Kitchen was stocked for all your needs. Beds were comfortable and my husband loved the recliner. The best part of the house was the sunroom where we spent most of our time. Views are mesmerizing. We had family stay one night and they loved the convenience of the beach across the street. Only one thing: there is no grill so we had to buy a portable. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and plan on renting it for next summer.

A perfect view
This was my second stay at this property, and everything was great (again). The view of the Bay is fantastic - how many places can you go where you can see dolphins from the porch windows? We will definitely be back.

Great Location, Terrible Host
While this is a charming spot, we had several issues with the property that either went unaddressed (locking the cellar door — a safety issue), or were delayed in being addressed (WiFi and toilet). Even more concerning is that the host was nasty to us on more than one occasion (and yet blames us for his behavior), and was much nosier than we were comfortable with. We almost left early because we had so many issues with his behavior. I cannot recommend this property.

Beautiful Sunsets!
The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. The location and unobstructed view of the bay, fantastic. Quiet, friendly neighborhood, close to everything. We really enjoyed our stay.

Great location. Directly across from Bay. Easydrive of 10 minutes to Cape May. Quiet neighborhood. Rt 9 antiquing was terrific! Our canine girls loved all the windows to bark at the walkers and enjoyed the fences in yard Gary the owner was gracious and friendly. The only problem was the sun did not shine until we were driving out of town to head home - no fault of anyone. We all hope to come back next year and catch the sun out!

A True Vacation
Beautiful property, perfect location--a stone's throw from the Delaware Bay and enveloped by a safe, well-lit and well-maintained neighborhood. Small enough to be cozy but spacious enough to be comfortable, with a wonderful sunroom to take in panoramic views of the bay. Plenty of natural light in all rooms. The home (and it does, indeed, feel like an actual home) is fully equipped with a kitchen for homemade meals, a bright dining room, small but inviting bedrooms and a clean bathroom. This exceeded our expectations--so much so that we plan to book it again next year. Gary was super-attentive and accommodating. Highly recommended!

Beautiful bay views and gorgeous sunsets
Lovely home with amazing views. Very clean property with idyllic location, fenced in yard, small but completely efficient kitchen for making homemade meals or warming restaurant take outs. Porch larger then it looks in pictures, bathroom clean with tub and shower! Good sized living room to relax and gather and a dining room for sit down meals. My 2 dogs loved the fenced in yard. And the accessibility to the beach just across the street was perfection!! Nice neighborhood and close to restaurants, and a short drive to Cape May and Wildwood. Lovely for all ages!! We would highly recommend. Good communication with owner. Hope to visit again!!!

We enjoyed our stay at this bay front house. The unobstructed views of the bay from the house and yard were amazing. Our kids and dog enjoyed the beach across the street. The house was clean when we arrived. I would agree with other reviews that the yard needs some work. Small burrs are scattered throughout the yard that made walking barefoot challenging. We didn’t read the house amenities close enough as we didn’t realize there was no washer, dryer or dishwasher which would be nice for a family week’s stay. Overall, it was a fun week for our first time on the bayside.
