About this house rental
Hampden House offers guests serene accommodation amongst beautiful established grounds overlooking the Valley escarpment with private access to the Kangaroo River.
Hampden House was chosen by the Australian Women's Weekly as the location for their winter fashion shoot. Boxstudios have used the property for music videos.
Good news - Wifi, Netflix, as well as ducted heating and cooling to ensure your stay is comfortable all year round, although it is always lovely to light the fire in the cooler months.
Built towards the end of the 1800s, Hampden House retains many of its original features including outbuildings, 3 sandstone fireplaces, century old hardwood flooring and cedar windows. It is set on acreage with frontage to the Kangaroo River and is a short stroll to the quaint heritage listed village of Kangaroo Valley. The house has wide verandas with extensive views of the surrounding valley escarpments. The property has been in the same family for 5 generations and the current host is the great grand-daughter of the original owner.
The main house has 4 bedrooms featuring many of the property’s original furnishings. The kitchen and separate living room offer stunning views of the property surrounds and feature the original chimneys, echoing the sandstone of the renowned Hampden Bridge.
Hampden House sits beyond a laurel hedge amongst fruit trees. Meander in the orchard or down to the waters edge and listen to the gently flowing river as you relax in the garden.
Make yourself at home, relax in front of the fire or on the veranda with a good book and take in the clean crisp country air of one of Australia’s most beautiful regions. Discover the tranquil world of Kangaroo Valley and enjoy this elegantly furnished house which is suitable for couples who enjoy their own company or for a small group of family or friends.
Hampden House is the perfect stay for guests wanting privacy close to town with a great variety of activities to choose from. The house features its own solar heated swimming, pool, sheridan sun dried linen, mountain bikes and idyllic picnic spots.

We were visiting Kangaroo Valley for a family friend’s wedding. We booked into Hampton House and the house was amazing. Beautiful old house with surprises at every turn. Hampden House is a beautiful cottage located on the river front and a short stroll from the main shopping strip. Abundantly laden citrus and fruit trees surround the house, with stunning views of the escarpment. Inside, every detail has been thought of, all the kitchen staples are provided and more! Lovely treats, decadent toiletries, sumptuous beds with electric heating, piles of wood for the fire. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

This is a very special property. The house is full of antiques and wonderful old photos & prints, yet it also has all the mod cons to be completely comfortable. The garden leads down to the river, which is so beautiful & perfect for a cool down. Or if you prefer to swim in a pool you will not be disappointed. The pool is beautiful, surrounded by huge sandstone pavers. The house is an easy walk to town for restaurants, cafes, markets etc.
And, the owner filled the house with treats which we thoroughly enjoyed! We will be back!

In a lovely part of Australia, the property is very well equipped and has everything you need. The host responds quickly and leaves some food and drink essentials for use during the stay. The property has a nice homely feel with plenty of areas outside to sit and relax. It’s a short walk to the village where there are a few shops and restaurants.

Really enjoyed our stay here...we travelled from Sydney and was very easy to find and check in was a breeze. Property was great with a wrap-around balcony that each bedroom and living areas had access to. Loved the nice touches by the owner such as fresh bread and the odd tasty beverage left for our enjoyment! Great having bikes available to us that we could head into town or down to Hampden Bridge. But probably the best was the location backing onto the Kangaroo River, where my boy and I could launch our kayak to head up river....shallow in places where we were but easy enough to drag the kayak over in places and go again. Thoroughly recommend!!

60th get away

We had a lovely stay, the property had so much history and character and Karen was so helpful. The gardens were also lovely with the river within walking distance and the rainwater on tap was clear and delicious. We also enjoyed the welcome items, fireplace and pantry provisions. Surprise central
This is a wonderful house full of character and history. It's extremely comfortable with a surprise at every turn, not to mention the selection of local goodies that Karen had waiting for us upon arrival. We were meeting other groups at other houses over the weekend so didnt get to spend as much time at Hampden House as we would have have liked. We will definately be back so we can chill a bit more and enjoy this delighful house without interuption.

Unique character home
We were immersed in the history of Karen's family whilst staying at this property. Upon our arrival the lights were on and music was playing. We were treated with some lovely goodies including a delicious sponge cake and local produce. The rooms were comfortable and cosy. The property is expansive with access to the river at the rear. It was lovely sitting on the rear deck taking it all in. It was an easy walk into town as well. Thank you for making it special for us.
