Exceptional

Very spacious villa, with gorgeous views over lake Lugano. Marco, our host, is an amazing person, great with recommendations and always ready to help. The moment we stepped over the entrance door, we already were planning our return visit. Villa has a lot of history, and is modern at the same time.

Sad conditions for the location

The view of the lake. The host was friendly. Good parking.

We have booked 2 nights at the Cottage of Villa Rina, but unfortunately after one night we had to leave due to the unhealthy conditions offered by the accommodation. Even though the host was friendly, received us late in the night and had also provided us with a dehumidifier, the quality of the air caused by humidity and mold was simply unbearable causing us to have difficulty in breathing. While trying to sleep a very strong smell of mold came from the closet(and probably behind it) and we had to sleep with the dehumidifier next to our heads the entire night. Sadly, this was not enough and we woke up in the morning with a powerful mold smell in our noses which remained with us for even more than 24 hours after leaving. Also from the bathroom a very strong stale smell was coming. Beside these conditions, also in terms of cleaning a better job could be done: there were spider webs near the bed and in the closet from the fridge(the painting above the bed and the fridge looked like they haven't been cleaned for some time), the table cloth from the kitchen table was dirty and we also found a dead fly on the kitchen countertop, the bedroom drapes also had a big layer of dust on top. This is the first time in more than 15 years of travelling that we literally had to leave an accommodation being scared of unhealthy conditions. In case the owners of this accommodation are not aware, exposure to a large number of mold spores may cause allergic symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, itching, coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, headache, and fatigue. Repeated exposure to mold can increase a person's sensitivity, causing more severe allergic reactions.

Would go back anytime!

Outstanding location with stunning views over lake lugano 2km from the town. The house is surrounded by trees but the front is open to allow a perfect view. The Host is very kind and helped with the luggage up the short footpath to the property. Everything was very clean and well organized.

That we only stayed 3 nights.

A Private Villa overlooking the Lake

Very nice villa overlooking the Lugano lake. Good location very quite and comfortable. Big rooms with many cosy corners. Very nice couple is taking care of the house!

A long climb to reach the entrance, no club car (needed) for elder people and children. One out of three toilet rooms was out of order. On the second floor there are 3 inter-connected sleeping rooms that have only One (big) bathroom & toilet.

beautiful , serene & so comfortable

the setting was just perfect- a lovely stroll into town for restaurants & bars. the Villa rina cottage was so thoughtfully equipped - little touches everywhere & even a nespresso machine & capsules. just idyllic to sit on the terrace in the evening & hear the owls ! Marco greeted us with such a beautiful warm welcome & helped carry our bags to the cottage . just a fabulous stay but too short !! the views from the terrace are quite wonderful

Fantastic experince. Everything was organized, very easy and welcome check-in. Bring only your food, anything else already provided by Marco. Highlly recomended. I would like to express my personal feeling about BBQ: As an Iranian who is expert in making kebab, this BBQ type is the best one. You dont need to bring charcoal. Marco renovated this villa with vey high quality materials. I hope to comeback this villa in future. enJoY. /Mehdi

Lovely historic villa in charming town

Perfect stay for a family reunion, we rented all 5 rooms including the separate studio. Was lovely to have all 10 of us around the same table for meals and board games :) Very comfortable home and right on the lungolago walk.

Just know that on the third floor of the villa, 3 of the rooms (single &2 doubles) share the same lovely huge bathroom. Great for large families with kids, not so great for separate couples.

A fantastic location and good accommodation marred by a lack of honesty about access.

The view was exceptional and the cottage comfortable with one or two exceptions. Our hosts were fantastic.

We stayed in the cottage. We had high expectations, but in our opinion an amazing property was let down by one serious and several minor issues, which could easily be remedied. (Because of its uniqueness and potential, I have gone into some detail about improvements that could be made.) There was no mention of a steep climb up to the house plus steps. There was a motorised barrow, which fortunately my husband was able to use for our luggage.. We are elderly, and luckily fit. In fact, as the Booking.com entry said the property was "beachside", we had thought it was actually by the lake! I am afraid we think the property description was seriously misleading. If one of us had been disabled or not fit, the access would have been impossible. Had the entry been honest about the access, we would still have booked but would have been prepared for what was there, and perhaps expected to pay a little less. On a more trivial level, there were a number of minor areas needing remedy, which would have improved our stay. The most serious is that the front door was self locking with no way to disable this; only one set of keys was provided. I accidently sat shivering outside in my pyjamas, while my husband was taking the dogs for their early morning walk! Apparently I am not the first to be caught out! There was nowhere to put our bags in the bedroom except the floor, similarly the bathroom. There were no hangers; and the more accessible cupboards were full of furniture for more guests. The kitchen was organised so that there was no cupboard space for our own food. And maddeningly the hedge in front of the kitchen window obscured the view when sat at the table. Finally the welcome information would be improved with some information on how things worked eg the electric gate.

The big house is beautiful and comfortable, lake view amazing and the location great - close to the center of the town (walking distance), but at the same time remote and giving the opportunity to relax. The hosts are very nice and helpful. Can’t wait to be back.

One of the best accommodations on Booking

The cottage is very nice with beautiful view and garden with al sorts of vegetation. Great hosts too! I can really recommend this place close to the border of Ticino, the Italians speaking part of Switzerland.

The make the cottage even better: - add some clothes hangers to the closets - add some dishcloths to the kitchen

Perfect stay, perfect location, best view on the lake in Porto Ceresio, just amazing!

Amazing view from the balcony, the bungalow next to the main villa is perfect for a couple and a week holiday. Just Perfect. 10 min walk all along the lake until the center and great restaurants. Very easy pick up of the keys and check out (we could even stay until 13h as they were no hosts after us so really great flexibility). The host, Marco and his wife gave us a top recommendation for the best restaurant in the region, they were super friendly and we could even do a laundry in the principal villa. Fantastic stay and we will be back next year for sure. We loved it.

Wonderful relaxed place with a great view and easy access to the lake. Marco gave us charcoal to use the BBQ. We had been traveling for two weeks and it was nice to have a place to ourselves and a relaxed bbq instead of going to a restaurant (although there are some very close by along the lake). Our dogs were welcome and free to roam around the place.
