Stone Harbors famous beaches are a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the house. Quaint shops and lovely restaurants are a 10 minute walk into town. Cape May, an historic Victorian town, is a 20 minute drive south on the Garden State Parkway. Visit the Zoo, a 10 minute drive north on the Garden State Parkway. Take the kids to enjoy a day of amusement rides and water parks at the Wildwood boardwalk, 20 minutes south (rides appropriate for children ages 3+).

What a tranquil spot with great water options. We kayaked almost every day, quietly gliding near the nesting Laughing Gulls and Osprey. Both kids and adults enjoyed swimming off the dock. The house was very clean and accommodated our group nicely. I especially miss my morning coffee and my sunset cocktails on the dock, as egrets and skimmers hunt for their next meal. We will be back next summer!

Don't forget to catch dinner and a movie in SH it is the bomb..Speaking of catching we always go fishing and catch our flounder dinner and then some to take home... Looking forward to many more stays..

First of all, it took me a month to write this review because it is hard to describe the joy we continue to feel while staying in this home away from home that is perfectly situated just off the island on the back bay. 5 generations ago, our ancestors were among the first non-native settlers on 7 Mile Island. In fact, my cousin's great Aunt was the first baby born in Avalon. Her name was Avalon Corson Kandle, and her parents won the prize given to parents if the first baby born there--the prize was a free lot. My aunt's father and grandfather built a cottage across the bay on 88th Street in the mid '20s. So, you can understand how much the island means to me and the rest of my family. We have been renting homes on and off the island for decades, and this lovely home is the only one I wish to return to again and again. We also rented it in May of this year and will return next spring.
The home is just the right size for a family and its guests. There are three bedrooms that sleep 6 upstairs, and a large dem/media room in the lower level that has a pull out FIFA, another sofa as well as a loveseat. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the owners plan to remodel it in the near future. The patio area is perfect for barbecuing. They not only have a deck that offers a perfect launching place for kayaks and paddle boards, but they also have an upper deck with plenty of chairs and a table to enjoy the sunsets. There are kayaks that the owners generously provide, including a very comfortable tandem. The deck is great for fishing and the owners also provide crab traps. There is nothing like the calm quiet mornings out on the deck, not to mention the fantastic sunsets!
We so appreciate being able to walk from the house to places such as the Wetlands Institute, located just across the street, and to stroll across the bridge into town. No need to search for a parking spot and keep feeding those meters!
To readers who are not yet familiar with this wonderful island and surrounding area, some favorite places and activities we have enjoyed over the years include; the award-winning Cape May County Zok up the road in Cape May Court House, the Csoe May-Lewis Ferry, the Sone Harbor Point at Hereford Inlet, the Cape May slight House, the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, the Stine Harbor Museum, the alpaca farm in North Cspe May, the zlobster House Restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf in Cape May, charter fishing on the Never Enuf out of Avalon at the Avalon Fishing Center.

We had a wonderful family vacation at this home in Stone Harbor. The home is well maintained and had everything we needed. The guys enjoyed fishing from the dock and setting crab traps. They caught shark and sea bass and had a good fight with some huge flounder! Use of the kayaks was another great perk. The view of the sunsets each evening was fantastic. The home is just over the bridge to town and the ocean beaches. We hope to return next year!

What a fabulous location for enjoying the water on kayaks, walking into town for coffee/ice cream, enjoying quiet and lovely sunset barbeque dinners on the dock, and sleeping peacefully in the evenings. A very sweet house that was both charming and had all the amenities of home. The house was nicely furnished, including comfortable beds, a bright, open and airy feeling throughout the home, and great views of the water. We loved the location and easy walk to town, in addition having the use of kayaks was great as the water ways were fabulous to explore. Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay at this home and look forward to returning.

From the outside, this house does not appear to be "beachy", but the pictures do not do this rental justice. The house was spotless upon arrival, and the beds were as comfortable as my own (even the pull-out sofa bed was extremely comfortable). The outdoor grassy yard, dock and floating dock was great for dining, crabbing, fishing, and swimming. The use of the kayaks was a bonus for us (our two teenagers were on them almost daily). And the views from the back dock were simply spectacular!
I was a little hesitant renting a house that was not directly on the island, but realized I had nothing to worry about! Getting into town was literally a walk over the bridge; we make the walk almost every night. We did drive to the beach, although it really wasn't necessary. I just didn't want to walk through town with chairs and an umbrella. If we did walk, I would estimate it would take about 20 minutes. The house was also stocked with games, puzzles and books if you forgot your own or were stuck inside on a rainy day.
The kitchen was very well stocked with all the amenities of home; I agree with other reviews that it could use some updating. It was the only space in the house that I would say was a little disappointing. But it was very clean and functional. I would rent this property again and would recommend it as well. It really is a gem.

We had a wonderful time at this adorable little bungalow. If I were to say anything negative, it would be that the kitchen could use a little upgrading, but we had such great weather, that we cooked and ate almost every meal outside on the patio with that amazing view of the water. The two living/family rooms and backyard provided plenty of room for our two young boys to play or watch a little TV, and the downstairs and outdoor showers were perfect after a sandy day at the beach! Our family loved crabbing from the dock, kayaking almost every day, the close proximity to town, and of course, the beautiful beaches. The house was clean upon arrival and was stocked with everything we needed for a fun-filled, relaxing week.

My family (6) gathered to celebrate my sister's birthday with some birdwatching at the shore.
The house was perfect, it was very clean and comfortable AND very well supplied with all the kitchen things you always need and usually forget.
It was too cold to use the kayak, but the view from the deck was very enjoyable.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Wheaton Arts in Millville. Great time, great house!!

Our mid-fall stay at this property was most enjoyable: a comfy, clean, modern, functional home, from the back yard of which one can literally launch a kayak into the wetlands or just watch great egrets fish from the deck; as well as use as one's base for exploring the area on foot or by car. It being mid-October, it was too cool to swim or barbecue, but warmer days allowed for a bit of outdoor deck lounging, and it was a go week for avid paddlers with wetsuits. For those whose idea of fun excludes wearing neoprene, there are all kinds of land's end towns and exurbs to explore throughout the Cape May environs. Nighttime was ideal for World Series and movie watching, eating in the restaurants and taverns that are open year-round where the locals go, and for exploring the deserted summer beach towns like Wildwood.
I would unreservedly recommend this property, under its current ownership, to friends/relatives seeking a quiet, comfortable, outdoor-based getaway. The amenities -- from a good stereo to modern clock/radios in bedrooms to two full baths to cozy blankets in the den to a well-equipped kitchen (there was even a wine aerating tool!) to decent recreational kayaks capable of seating three -- bespeak the owners' forethought and welcoming attitude toward their houseguests; and the home's location -- on a quiet side street in easy walking distance of town and the beach -- perfect. This house, and this area, are perfect for reflective human beings who want to relax, enjoy nature, get out, and get away while still in New Jersey, probably not so much so for wild partygoers.
We particularly loved Rick's Seafood in North Wildwood, both the raw and cooked-meal take out, and, of course, Kohr's ice cream and the Fudge Kitchen (for it's chocolate, not its fudge or taffy), both downtown.

This house is a gem in Stone Harbor. Love the new downstairs room - perfect space for family game night. We also enjoyed your great dock, especially swimming and kayaking off it (thanks for leaving us the double kayak). We did have fun with the kids at the beach a couple days, but was drawn to your waterfront most of the week. We'll definitely be back.

Nice home. Good location. The views are great. Quiet and peaceful location. House was clean, organized and had most of the things needed to spend a comfortable week at the beach.

My wife and I just completed our 3rd stay in four years and had another great time. The lower level is newly renovated and is a nice place to watch TV or just hang out. All the amenities (see the listing) make the house a home away from home. It is very conveniently located; the Stone Harbor shops and beach are a 5 min drive away and Ocean City, Wildwood, and Cape May are not far away. We always enjoy the experience of being right on the salt marsh. The ability to launch my kayak from the dock is great and the sound of the gulls and other birds is a welcome change from cars and machinery.

This was a perfect vacation spot for our family. The adults enjoyed relaxing on the deck overlooking the marsh, Avalon, Sea Isle and Stone Harbor, while the kids spent hours everyday swimming and catching crabs. The ocean was only a 15 minute walk or a five minute drive. We also enjoyed visiting the Cape May Zoo only a ten minute drive, and we were able to walk to the Wetlands. The house was clean, bright and well equipped. We will definitely be back next summer.

In Summer 2012 we very much enjoyed staying at this beautiful house in the marshland. The children enjoyed the water sports, loved kajayking and swimming or just playing on the deck. We had great barbecues on the deck and loved observing the wildlife in the marsh.
The house was very well maintained and clean and had a lot of space for a family of five. Our son enjoyed having his own area in the downstairs room with his private bath.
We can only recommend this property if your looking for outdoor activities in beautiful surroundings.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this house on the waterfront. It is in the unexpectedly beautiful and relaxed town of Stone Harbour. There are plenty of things to do such as go down to the beach and swim. There are opportunities to surf, take a boat out and all other manner of seaside activities. The food available in the town was fantastic. There were both lovely restaurants and great fresh fish stores if you wanted to stay in. The house itself was the perfect place to stay in this lovely town. It had plenty of space, a lovely back yard where one could enjoy the beautiful weather and could take advantage of the house's ideal location: right on the water. It was fantastic to be able to wake up in the morning and go swimming in the sea, or to impulsively take a kayak around the Sound. The house was beautifully furnished and had all the equipment one could ever need. It had a great kitchen in which we enjoyed cooking lobsters we'd bought live that day. A nice snug room with a TV for the day the weather caught us unawares and a perfect little outside dining area where we could enjoy supper by the peace of the water. The beds were all very comfortable and with the sea air combined, I slept very well indeed. To top it all off, the location of the house couldn't be better. It is just separate from the town so it is even more peaceful, but only a minute's drive from the beach or the centre depending on which you're more interested in. In summary, I very much enjoyed my stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the vacation I have described above.

The owner and the realtor were pleasant to work with in arranging the rental. Sadly, that was the only positive part of our rental experience.
My husband, our baby son, and I arrived a day late, so the rest of my family (who were staying in another house in town) picked up the key and went over to make up the beds etc. They called me right away to warn me that we may not be able to stay in the house due to a very strong odor. They turned up the AC in hopes of drying out / airing out the space overnight.
When we arrived the next evening, we found that the odor was still very strong. The house smelled like there had been a sewer leak and that it had mildewed before drying up. We decided we couldn't stay in the house.
I called the realty office to inform them of the problem and to let them know we could not stay there. The next day the realtor left me a message saying that she had gone over with a contractor and both of them found no problem with the place. She said they would not refund our money and that no other houses in the area were available to rent. Sadly, we decided to leave the situation there because we couldn't see how to resolve a situation that came down to our saying the odor was too intense for a reasonable person to stay there and them saying it smells fine.
The realtor said that the house has been booked all summer and that no one has complained about the odor. I honestly don't know what to make of that. Our family has rented homes in the Stone Harbor area for over 20 years. I know that some shore homes can have a mildew smell. It's so wet on the shore that it's hard to avoid getting at least some moisture in the homes. But my family and I have never stayed in a place that smelled like this. We could not handle being in there for 15 minutes, let alone a week.
This is really a shame because the location is nice. We were looking forward to being on the marshes and enjoying kayaking etc. Instead we ended up staying on the floor of my family's rental house for a week. Not exactly what we'd hoped for, especially given that we were out the entire amount for the rental.
I rely on reviews when booking rental homes. There weren't a lot of recent reviews for this house, but the ones that were there were positive so I took a chance. I see a couple recent reviews from the owner's hometown have been posted since our problematic stay. I hope others will find our experience useful in deciding whether to stay here.

A light and airy home. Spacious, clean and welcoming. A peaceful setting just a short bike or walk to town.
We had a wonderful break in Stone Harbour, enjoying the great restaurants, fish markets and all the facilities of your home.
Thanks for thinking of everything I could need. Truly a home away from home.

This was the perfect spot for our family vacation. My husband and I are 60, my son and daughter-in-law are in their 30's and have a 4 month old. We brought our 7 year old grandson and 14 year old granddaughter - we all had our needs met and had a wonderfully fun and relaxing week.
The house was lovely. Very roomy and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. We are all pretty good cooks and had most of our meals at home. The property was really well-maintained and clean.
But the real bonus was the location. The pictures on the web site don't do the marsh and dock justice. It was breathtaking and so peaceful. We had all our meals outside and sat on the dock to swim and read in the sun. We rented kayaks for the week that sat on the dock and were ready for us to take a paddle. The house is in a little neighborhood so quiet and yet you are a 10 minute walk into town - which is very nice. Not honky-tonk - nice stores and enough stuff for the kids to do - ice cream, golf, water rides. Also close enough to Wildwood if you want honky tonk and close to Cape May where we went for an afternoon and dinner out - also took the tour. We played golf at Avalon Golf Club - nice and friendly club.
The owners were VERY helpful with suggestions and tips. Could not have been nicer.
I have already recommended this to friends and family.
In the afternoons we packed up and went to the beaches - beautiful and great lifeguards.

What a wonderful location, fenced in yard, peaceful, with fantastic views, and easy access to the Stone Harbor beaches. Had a great time off you dock swimming, and launching our kayaks for exploring the wetlands, bays, and intracoastal waterway. We loved your Stone Harbor Manor neighborhood and highly recommend your home for a family vacation.
