About this cabin rental
1940’s charm with a rustic appeal and modern touches will welcome you as you arrive at our quaint cabin on the lake in McCall. Travel back to a simpler time. Relax on the deck overlooking the lake or step down to the dock and slip your feet into the water. This magical little spot in the world will envelope you with a sense of connection, the comfort of quiet relaxation, and the warmth of real respite and rest.
A true summer cabin, this log home lets you experience summers as they once were – unbridled, unhurried, and in our mind, under appreciated. And yet, you’ll find everything you want within reach of this cottage oasis. The lake in front of you, the trails behind you and the mountains surrounding you. Walk to town, ski the lake, bike down Brundage Mountan (after riding the chairlift up), hike to a secret fishing spot, or just relax and rejuvenate. Revisit the era of summer neighbors, quiet lakeside evenings, and cocktail cruises along the shore.
Wood floors, log walls, a river-rock fireplace and even a tongue-and-groove ceiling complete the look of summer at the lake. A rustic and simple kitchen harkens back to another era, but you’ll find modern cookware and dinnerware to facilitate the gourmet in your group.
Ours is a simple home, for simple pleasures. We hope you’ll find it clean and comfortable, but what you won’t find is anything fancy. Enjoy the gas bar-b-cue and eat outside on the deck if you’d like. Merry-making under the stars while listening the sounds of a summer enclave are a soothing way to end any day. Dip your toes in the water – or better yet, jump in and let the cool mountain water take your breath away and infuse your soul at the same time. Leave the pressures of work and the stresses of daily life behind. Seek a friendly community of nature and generations of neighbors who will welcome you to our little group of cabins and homes. Meet new friends on our community dock and watch the sun break over the mountains’ crest each day. Soak in its heat and feel your energy reserves renewed – this is a special place to rest one’s feet!
There are two twin beds on the main floor in a private bedroom with attached bathroom containing shower. Upstairs loft has a full/double bed, and then in a semi-private room (doorway without a door) are two more twin beds. A half bathroom on the second floor is located between the two sleeping areas.
A small flat screen television is located in the living room with attached Roku to accommodate streaming services using your own accounts. WiFi internet is available although the speed is not conducive to intensive use.
A final note: rustic means rustic in our little house. You’ll find charm and character, but not opulent luxury – unless of course, you consider a peaceful and simple experience a luxury. Water for all sinks, showers, toilet, etc. is sourced directly from the lake. Bottled drinking water is provided for consuming / cooking.
Cheers!

We enjoyed our time in McCall. The cabin was as described in the listing. The family that owns the cabin was next door and very kind.

This cabin was everything we expected it to be. The beds were comfortable, the location perfect. The grass field above the dock is so nice. It could use a new shower head in the shower, but the water's hot and that's all that matters. We picked the spot because of our boat and wanting to be on the water the whole time. Another cabin owner had stuck their boat in the slip we were promised, and is pretty much what you're paying for. Fortunately, we made friends with the other neighbors and we parked in another slip that was open. But it was really stressful because we knew we could get yelled at and have to pull our boat out at any moment. We were given options of where else we could park our boat but neither were feasible, based on the level of the water and the way the other boat had parked and taken over two slips. We would love to come back here, but it is nerve-wracking to know that the whole reason we went to have a place to park our boat on the water may or may not be there, and you're kind of out of luck. We would love to be back, but it would be nice to know that the slip is open, and that that the owners or the property management company would care enough to take care of the situation. We got lucky that the other neighbors did not have their boat in at the time.

The cabin was great. The dock was fun. The neighbors share a dock and made us uncomfortable. They showed up on the third day and would not leave us alone with how important they were. We didn't use the dock after that.

The location on the lake made the trip absolutely amazing. The rustic cabin is exactly that but that is all we needed. What mattered to us was good communication with the host and location and this home checked both those boxes :) It would be nice if there was a bigger TV since we do like to relax in the evenings and watch TV. But that really isn't a big deal. Thank you and we will be back next summer!

Rustic cabin, small 1000sqft cabin with small adequate kitchen and eating area, comfortable couches with TV and Roku, no AC, downstairs shower in twin single bed room, open upstairs master with no door to twin beds in second room. Very nice Dock access. No beach access. Pleasant owner with easy access in shaded area. Beds could use updating but that's what rustic means.

Quaint family weekend in the mountains
We had a wonderful long weekend up in Beautiful McCall. My husband and I came with our 3 year old, one year old, and my sister. There was plenty of room for us as far as sleeping and living went, however the shower was a little tight for bathing our kiddos. But we knew ahead of time and were able to prepare. It was nice to step back in time; hand washing dishes, hearing the screen door bang as the kids came and went, and having to warm up next to the wall heater in the mornings. Having access to the boat dock was amazing. We have very special memories of the cabin that will last us a lifetime!

Great Family Fun
The Rustic Red cabin was a great place for our family to enjoy time together at the lake. The access to a dock/slip made this cabin very desirable and it did not disappoint. The cabin itself is exactly as described - no luxuries, no frills; just your quintessential McCall cabin! The space worked great for the five of us, which included 3 teenagers. The deck is fantastic for soaking in the sun and the view of the lake. The owners just happened to be there when we arrived and they were such pleasant and helpful people - we appreciated their input and assistance.
The only challenge we had while staying was getting in contact with the management company on Sunday, when we accidentally got locked out of the cabin. Their office is closed on the weekends (when most people rent) and after speaking with their answering service, we waited over 2 hours for someone to call us back to no avail. Luckily, the neighbors next door were able to help us out, for which we are incredibly grateful. This was a little unexpected having rented many homes in the past managed by larger companies that are available 24/7 for emergencies such as this.

A piece of paradise, great dock access. Family friendly.
No air, didn’t care. The temperature was amazing to open windows at night. Awesome views and great friendly neighbors.

Rustic for sure
Rustic is understatement. Running water is directly from lake—don’t drink it!! Extremely dirty under beds and furniture. We ran a fan with filter that was black on leaving. Boat dock, and neighbors were great!!

Great Stay!
Our family enjoyed our stay here so much! Neighborhood was quiet and friendly. The cabin was cozy and rustic and fulfilled all of our needs. The boat dock is amazing, so nice not to have to take the boat out of the water every evening. Parking is a little tight, so be prepared, but the neighbors were very accommodating for our boat trailer and both vehicles. We loved our stay here and hope to rent again in the future!

Shameful
It is shameful for someone to rent a house as filthy and as uncared for as this cabin. Also the only bed that wasn't a twin bed was the oldest, most uncomfortable mattress I've ever slept on. To top it off a new cabin is under construction next door(which we were not made aware of). The peace and quiet we had in mind was not possible as a result. Property Mgr. stated he was going to speak with the owner about a partial refund, and he didn't even reply after I sent later inquiry about the status of that. Joe Russell

Decent rental
Wasn’t super clean when we got there but it wasn’t terrible. Way closer to other cabins then indicated and parking is terrible.

After other plans were cancelled due to covid, we were happy to find this little cabin last minute. The deck was perfect for morning coffee or dinner and cards with the family. The shared dock was great for a morning dips and swimming during the heat of the day. The upstairs is really one large room with no doors. But since we were all family it was not a problem.

Simple, rustic getaway
We had a great week in McCall at this property! The cabin is small and most definitely rustic, but we weren’t expecting anything fancy. We were surprised that we did have to purchase all of our own toilet paper, paper towels and garbage bags because none were provided. We were also told by the property renter that there would be a washer/dryer, but discovered on arrival that there was not. This was too bad because we had packed with laundry options in mind, but we made it work. The listing says 3 bedrooms, but we discovered that the two bedrooms upstairs have no door separating them, so there is really no privacy unless you have the only downstairs bedroom with a door. The lake access is super close and easy- the dock is wonderful for shared access and we spent lots of time on the water! Parking is a little tight but we carpooled so it worked out fine :) The neighborhood is very friendly and we enjoyed meeting people and soaking up the relaxing lake life culture.

Wonderfully remote, wonderful location, wonderful management. It was just like staying at a friends house. It was our first home rental. We didn’t have central air or Wifi but perhaps that is just what we should expect when we head to the mountains.

Adorable vintage cabin in clean condition. Nice break from the city with this place. Very comfortable. Neighbor in the fancy home next door is a definitely a piece of work and grouchy about rentals but nice enough..I would recommend this place for sure especially for the price!!

Too cold for the Red Cabin
We got to the cabin on a weekend that was predicted to be in the 40's in the day and in the 20's at night. The cabin looked fine but after much searching, we found that there was no central heating. There was a big fireplace with wood but the notebook about the cabin told us not to expect much warmth from that source. We located one space heater on the first floor. We would have had to carry it around with us from kitchen to bathroom to living room in order to stay warm. We don't mind roughing it. We tent camp in that kind of weather. However there was nothing in the advertising about the cabin that said that there was no central heat. We would have prepared differently if we had known that kind-of-big detail. Luckily, after three tries, we were able to get through to the folks managing the property and they moved us to a neighboring cabin with no questions asked. We had a nice weekend at that cabin and appreciated the responsiveness of the management staff. I do suggest however that the listing should be much clearer about the heating situation.

I marked it not really. Cabin nice needed work
No stopper in sink to do dishes, mostly broken chairs outside, no porch light, uneven boards and nails sticking up on porch, not many coffee mugs, needed more lights and or light bulbs, no information on area:hiking, dining, hot springs, and shopping. The cabin is as advertised a little red cabin with a partial view and we like the cabin itself.

We enjoyed our long weekend at the Rustic Red cabin. We especially enjoyed the dock/lake access and the friendly neighbors. We will definitely come back.

We had a wonderful trip! The house is old and dark,, but with character.
I would suggest more light bulbs and upgrade the deck and deck furniture .Bring your own kitchen basics, like salt and pepper, sugar and spices. We had a great time and love the boat dock.

Clean but cramped and technologically out of date
Because there was not central air it was hot when going to bed and cold in the morning.
Most frustrating was the super old TV that wouldn't connec to the cable and the broken VCR that wouldn't play the broken videos (all five of them) because the rewind didn't work.

If you love funky, this is your place!
My husband and I had a great time at Rustic Red. When you hear the word cabin, this place should come to mind. Like the cabins of my childhood, rustic and funky, which was part of the fun of it all. The house is set back from the water with a cabin in front of it, but the view is still pretty good. There is a private dock with a boat slip. We had our two dogs with us (another bonus -pet friendly) and they loved being right on the water. The only hiccup was that the toaster and wifi were not working, but I called the property manager and those things were readily fixed.
Just be aware the kitchen is super tiny, but worked for the two of us.
Even though it's old, the place was clean.

Rustic but functional .. owner is super nice
Cabin is older and bathrooms are tight. But we loved the lake access and you don't spend your time indoors when your in mccall. Had all the essentials.

Charming cabin, amazing view, wonderful stay!
We loved the Rustic Red as soon as we unlocked its door. Even though the weather was colder than we would have liked, space heaters were available for every room, and we enjoyed crackling fires in the stone fireplace. The lake was beautiful, and we soaked up as much time as we could on the wonderful dock. Loved the charming bedrooms and rustic cabin-y feel of the place. Dawson Taylor coffee and bottled drinking water were also provided, which was very considerate. The wi-fi was spotty and the circuit breaker kept needing to be reset, but other than that, we loved every minute. Would definitely book again.

Not the best first impression but Rustic Red won me over
When my husband and I first arrived at the cabin we were a little weary to stay there for our 1 year anniversary - the furniture and interior was quite dated and the kitchen wasn't all that great but little Rustic Red won us both over after 1 night there. The location is unbeatable, the dock with its chairs and umbrellas are just lovely, the view is spectacular, and we only made coffee and light lunches at the cabin so the kitchen situation didn't bother me as much (I love to cook and the space would've been challenging). We had a lovely stay and would stay again for sure. I hate to use the word issue or complaint because those don't quite seem to fit what I'm thinking, but I would DEFINITELY have arranged the furniture differently in the house to make it less cramped and awkward. There is absolutely no functional space in the kitchen and navigating the couches and chairs in the living and tv areas was silly. All in all, a lovely retreat that felt like going back in time to Grandma's house.

A memory maker!
Staying at the rustic red with several girlfriends was one of the better decisions of the summer! This property was well maintained, and accurately described. Each person we interacted with was helpful and kind, making our stay that much better. This is a great little cabin to make fun memories with both friends and family. Plan to spend a lot of time outside!

Cute, comfy, cozy cabin
Great dock, view and lake access.
The only thing that I didn't like was we couldn't check in until 4pm and had to be out by 11am. For what we paid I didn't feel that was fair and this was not disclosed to me until just before we arrived.
