About this house rental
Waterfront pet friendly holiday house on Karragarra Island on beautiful Moreton Bay.
Getting to Karragarra Island starts with a bit of adventure: a trip across the bay on the car barge or passenger ferry from Redland Bay. As soon as you disembark you step into a different zone.
There are no traffic lights, roundabouts nor even a stop sign on Karra. No shops or clubs. Just a tiny beach village a hop step and a jump from all those amenities. You are now on a peaceful island where you will have to get used to people saying “Hi " or a welcoming nod of the head as you pass by .
Ideal for a private romantic getaway, “Karra” (as the locals call it) has one of the nicest sandy beaches on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. The free sheltered bbq area and swimming enclosure is a great place to watch the sun go down with wine in hand .
The house is at the quietest eastern end of the island where you can sit on the front verandah and watch the ferries go by or just listen to the sounds of the abundant bird life. Put your crab pots down in front of the house if you like.
There are 4 complimentary pushbikes with helmets. Also a tandem bike - a fun way for a couple to explore the island together. Also available are 2 single kayaks and a double kayak with safety jackets, which can be launched near the house.
There is a fireplace in the house to keep warm on chilly evenings, while you play board games or cards around the dining table.
A boat brings a whole new world to explore with places like Peel Island, Blakesleys and Jumpinpin being favourites. The area around the islands is marine national park with turtles, dolphins and dugong to be seen. If fishing make sure you respect the boundaries of the green zones where no fishing is allowed. There are plenty of other spots where the fishing is great.
You can catch squire, bream, flathead and jewfish many places on the Bay . Crabbing is all year round and the crabs are very prolific. Just remember males of legal size are the only ones you can catch .
Passenger ferries make a loop of the islands in both directions en route to Redland Bay on the mainland. They offer free inter island travel several times an hour during the week (and about hourly on weekends) to the other islands on the loop: Macleay, Lamb and Russell Islands. So there is plenty to explore. Or, If you want a meal at a restaurant or club, it is just a matter of jumping on the interisland ferry to your choice of the other islands.
Most of the clubs offer a free courtesy bus and will pick you up at the ferry terminal and drop you off afterwards. You need to book this service with the venue (see list of eateries, clubs and pubs at the house.)
If you fancy a swing of golf for a very economical price, you can take the bikes across to Macleay island and ride to the course or they have a courtesy bus which will pick you up from the ferry terminal. The club hires golf clubs and also has a licensed restaurant.
Macleay and Russell also have a supermarket and shops so if there is anything you need it is 3 minutes to Macleay and 15 minutes to the larger island Russell by ferry.
An information sheet at the house details relevant phone numbers, ferry times etc.
If you are after peace and quiet doing as much or little as you want it would be hard to find a better place so close to the water .
The house is not suitable for toddlers under 3 years as, although legal in Qld., there is no handrail on the front verandah as it is less than a metre high and we like the unobstructed view.
Linen and towels are supplied

We had a great 5 day stay, very relaxing and we loved the addition of the screen around the back veranda, it made a big difference to the mozzies & midgies. Thanks Kevin & Sue

We had such a great few days staying at Karragarra Island. It was very relaxing, we loved the fire pit, fireplace, tandem bike, ping pong table, kitchen size, front deck & hammock. Our Labrador had the best time with us too. Thanks again for having us!

Serene place to relax your mind and body
We loved the location and the activities we all could do at the island. The house is lovely but needs a bit of TLC. Ourcfur babies enjoyed their walks and the kids loved biking. All the required items were available and the mozzie were taken care of by the large number of mosquito repellents.

Island get away
We had 3 nights at this Karragarra Island getaway and had a great time. There was plenty of things to keep us entertained and the property was well equipped with heaps of fun things to try. My only complaint would be that we didn't book extra days 😊.

Relaxing, quiet escape enjoyed by the whole family, 2 & 4 legged.
Other than the general cleanliness, I had to wipe down all surfaces & clean dishes before use, we thoroughly enjoyed our week away. The private oasis was ideal for the whole family to relax & unwind & would have loved to have stayed longer. Our 4 legged baby also loved her energetic holiday with long walks each morning & swimming at the beach. With the beach, kayaks & bikes there was plenty to do outdoors & the jigsaws & board games kept us entertained indoors. Just what we needed.

Beautiful piece of paradise. This place was exactly what we needed. Peaceful with water views.
Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this holiday cottage. Particularly the peace & quiet. Views from the deck to the water we’re beautiful. Played lots of ping pong games, sat by the fire. Our fur babies had the best time. We’ll definitely be back

Lovely place
Couldn’t work out the oven even with the manual, the wood fire didn’t seem to draw well .A privacy screen between the downstairs bedroom and bathroom and toilet would be desirable.Other than that we had a lovely stay and wood recommend to others.

Fantastic getaway for people+pets!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and so did both of our large dogs. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a quieter getaway, it was especially suited to travelling with our pets. We especially enjoyed sea kayaks.

Loved our stay .... quiet, peaceful and restful
My husband, 2 small dogs and I had an amazing stay. Very peaceful and quiet. The home has beautiful decor and surprise stock in the pantry for those odd items you might forget.
Wonderful books to read
Coffee machine was amazing
Loads of mozzies, but not unacceptable, being on the water and the fact it has rained for a week. We had planned for this and packed well, but Kevin had everything you might need in the pantry should you need anything
All the screen doors worked a treat, so mozzie FREE inside the house
BBQ was easy to use and wonderfully clean
Kevin has a beautiful and practical home on offer
Thank you Kevin!!!

Fun activities, island hopping, great for a big family to go too!
My first impression was quiet and away from everything, so remote island life and laid back, alot of mozzies and sandflies, which can be fixed with mozzie repellants and the fan blasting it out of your living area. You have to do your research, because there's no shops on the island and you need to take your necessities to keep you busy everyday. I had my family and extended family so we stayed at the property and did plenty of card games, resting, bike riding, kayaking, swimming, walking, and kids had fun playing hide and seek and swinging on a big swing that one of the adults had put up for them. Our holiday was full of fun activities to do and waking up late and cooking together as a family, praying, eating and cleaning together (well most of us anyway LoL) Thank you to this beautiful that Kevin and Tina has made available for us to rent while on holidays.

Twice we went to use the oven and cockroaches were running around inside.
There are holes in the flyscreen that allow the mossies in. We have stayed in cheaper houses that are far better.

Slice of heaven
Our stay was wonderful, very relaxing and the house had everything we could have needed. Gas in the bbq, condiments and so much cookware! Many laughs over the boardgames, fun in the kayaks and naps in the hammock. It was so lovely to find a great property that we could bring our fur babies to! Thanks guys!

Quiet & Peaceful
Well equipped, & thoughtfully supplied for any family holiday needs. Kayaks were a hoot, but disappointed the tandem bike wasn't in working order. Would have liked more time to relax & just enjoy more of the provided amenities.

Karra Garra
Apart from the absence of wifi, we loved the location of the house. It had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. It was generally clean and we also enjoyed having access to bikes and kayaks. Thanks

A week At Karragarra
The place was so nice, my two kids had such a cool experience. Paddling kayaks, beach combing, fishing, exploring, ferry rides and swimming! You do need to work with the tides for launching out front but it is quite easy. Thanks again!

Not what we expected
It was very disappointing, great remote location but the property was in bad shape. The oven was dirty and there were spiders in all corner of the house. There were so many mosquitoes and sand flies that we couldn’t go outside which was no fault of the owner but there was no internet which left nothing for us to do. The furniture was so uncomfortable we could even watch TV without getting a back ache. We couldn’t take the dogs for a walk, kayak, cycle or swim, we were confined to a tiny little house with nothing to do. We were travelling with young children and dogs - what a nightmare. We left after 3 days and the owner did offer a partial refund and to come back when there were less bugs which was appreciated.

We stayed for 3nites and first impressions were it was a impeccably presented property very clean
We loved our stay ,the property was super clean and very well appointed and stocked eqipment wise.We managed to catch 2good mudcrabs the first evening and most of our time was spent relaxing on the veranda watching the world go by and in a blink of an eye our visit was over. The only negative was the abundance of mosquitoes while we came prepared it still surprised us and became a ritual to keep 6 coils going at all times!!!
Overall a fantastic intimate getaway that im sure we will do again we genuinely enjoyed our time and reccomend it to others.

Great little Island Home
Stayed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to get away from the hustle and bustle of all the tourists on the Sunshine Coast. It was really lovely. Nice and clean with enough room for everybody.
Everything was self contained. I brought along things that were already supplied, like salad bowls, glad wrap etc. So that was great.
Six of us stayed and really enjoyed a few drinks and bbq's out on the deck.
We all went for a kayak and through out a couple of crab pots (no luck unfortunately). The dogs loved it there too. Plenty of room for them to run around and even have a swim on high tide.
A lovely little surprise was that Kevin and Tina left us Bubbles and Chocolates to enjoy. Thank you :)
Only complaint was that the dishwasher wasn't working and we had so many dishes after a Christmas Day Feast :(
Would definitely stay again and highly recommend it anyone.
