About this house rental
The Old Pump House, with an optional Hot Tub, is an ideal self-catering holiday home near Millom. It lies on the banks of the Black Beck and was formerly one of the main pumping stations supplying water to the ironworks. This detached, single-storey, country holiday retreat nestles in the village of The Green, a sleepy village off the Millom road, 4.5 miles from the ancient market town of Broughton.
The village, like many others in South Cumbria, was sometimes more relaxed. It lies at the northern end of an ancient ford crossing Duddon Sands. Long before the arrival of the railway, Irish and Scottish cattle were offloaded up the coast at Whitehaven. From there, herders led them south, past Black Combe and down the Whicham Valley, to gather at The Green ready for the drive across the River Duddon's treacherous sands to market.
This now sleepy village is the ideal place to come and relax beside the river, or you can use it as the perfect springboard for exploring the Lakes.
Beach 6 miles. Shop and restaurant 5 miles, The Punch Bowl Pub a half mile. Green Road railway station is just 200 yards up the road giving access to the stunning coastal route.
ACCOMMODATION SUMMARY:
The living room: French doors overlooking the river, original beams, wooden & slate floor, and the large log-burning stove.
The dining room/kitchen: Again with wooden beams and slate floor, dining table for six, oil-fired Range Cooker, separate fridge and freezer, microwave and other modern appliances.
Utility Room / WC: A loo, basin, washing machine, ironing board, etc.

The Old Pump House benefits from a large patio area with BBQ and an optional hot tub overlooking the river and onto the farm opposite. This is especially ideal for sunny days where you can relax on the cushioned garden furniture or dine at the six-seat outdoor dining table and listen to the running water or the birds singing.
To the front of the property is a parking space for up to three cars and storage space for bicycles. There are plenty of walks nearby too!

Relaxing, beautiful area
We had a lovely stay in the cottage. It had everything we could want. The sheep, horse across the street, and all the nearby paths were a big draw for us. It was close to several highlights in the region without the crowds. The house was good for our small children; my son loved the dog draft stopper. We didn’t want to leave!

October Break.
We both had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at this wonderful cottage. The location was so tranquil, just as required.
The cottage provided everything that’s required from a comfortable bed to lovely log burner and the Aga, it was rounded of by the relaxing use of the Hot Tub. We hope to return for a break in the future, the only negative was it was over to quick.

Lovely long weekend stay
A very spacious, cosy warm cottage with a homely feel. Takeaways from the local town were very good, as well as take away from the punch bowl was great. Easy location to get to and easy enough to get to the other lakes/parks to go exploring for the day. Would definitely stay again, hopefully in the summer so we can make full use of the lovely patio and bbq area next to the stream

Cottage was lovely, a home from home with everything you could possibly need & lots of quality features should as ralph lauren napkins, denby cups & plates etc. The range took some working out but was fantastic. Water pressure in the shower was great. Location was idyllic, the last cottage down a country lane next to a brook and fields full of sheep. The local dog friendly pub had great food & was a 10 min walk away. You could continue down the country lane for a couple of mins walk and find the train station (Its a quiet infrequent that goes up the coast) abd further on was a Lovely deserted walk to the estuary. The gorgeous Haverigg beach was 10 min drive away & the nearby town of millom had a tesco and takeaways. Great base for the lakes with Coniston 20 mins away. Only minor niggles were we felt the cottage could be cleaner. I hoovered when i arrived especially lots of spiders. The outside space was great but also really needed alot of cleaning & brushing away of leaves etc however it wouldn’t put me off returning as we loved it & have already recommended it to friends.. that speaks volumes!!
