About this villa rental

"Unless you leave room for Serendipity, how can the divine enter?" - Joseph Campbell

This charming new home, located in the quiet fishing/farming village of Treasure Beach, is divine! It has two levels, each with a private entrance. The upper level is used by the owners 2 - 3 months out of the year. The lower level is available for guests and boasts French doors in two rooms that offer expansive views of the Caribbean Sea and the charming village below. (NOTE: We are unable to make changes to the map showing the location. It is wrong. We are located on a hillside in Sandy Bank, not in Old Wharf.)

The guest unit has two-bedrooms and sleeps up to six - on a queen-sized bed, two twin beds that can be converted to a king-size bed, and a convertible sofa-bed. An open floor plan and multiple windows ensure a lovely breeze flows throughout the space, keeping guests cool and creating an open, expansive feel. Adirondack chairs and a hammock on the large 10x32' veranda will allow you to while away the afternoon in complete relaxation. The Asian inspired decor creates a calming environment that you may never want to leave, but be sure to spend some time visiting the cluster of shops, restaurants, and Jake's Resort a 10-minute walk away. Eat out or prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchenette. A range, small refrigerator, toaster, and coffee maker, along with dishes and cookware will provide any cook with what they need to prepare a gourmet meal.

The bathroom is adorned with whimsical tile work by local tile artist, Ronda Bennett. Enjoy a nice hot shower after cooling off in the Caribbean.

From the doors and windows, to the sofa and chairs, our home is equipped with hand-made, one-of-a-kind furnishings, created by local craftsmen.

Sports enthusiasts will enjoy the best seat in the house when cricket or soccer matches occur in the Treasure Beach Sports Park below the property. Or, for those who are more active, tennis courts, a basketball court, children's playground and playing fields are available at the Sports Park. Others, who prefer the beauty of nature will delight in the soaring John Crows (known in the US as turkey vultures) that circle on the breezes just off the verandas, listening to the birds' songs, and the spectacular views.

(NOTE: The Sports Park hosts Saturday night soccer parties from January to early April. The sound from the announcer and music can be very loud at those times.)

Guest Services

Guests enjoy wifi using the home's wife network. It's important to note that internet service is variable. Sometimes it's great and you can stream videos or music. Other times it's very slow or even off.

Private drivers to tourist attractions or other destinations, or for airport transport, are also available for an additional fee.

Guests experience the privacy of a home and the conviviality of life in a neighborhood. Enjoy chats with the neighbors or owners when they are on-site, or relax in the peace and quiet of your own space. A local property manager is available to meet any needs as they may arise.

The Neighborhood

Treasure Beach, home to "community tourism", is the name given to a string of five fishing villages located on the south coast of Jamaica. Our little neighborhood, known as Sandy Bank, is comprised of long-time fishermen whose families here go back generations, and who welcome visitors with open arms. More recent additions to the greater community include Europeans, Americans and Canadians who now make Treasure Beach their home, and brought their skills as artists, musicians and body-workers with them. This mix has created a dynamic, hip, vibrant and thriving community.

Getting around

Everything is within easy reach by foot or bicycle (available for renting at Jake's Resort on the main road). But, if you want to go further afield, route taxis cruise through Treasure Beach throughout the day. For as little as $3.25US, you can catch a taxi into Black River to experience the hustle bustle of that busy little community. If you want to go further, many taxi drivers can be hired for the day (ask for names of trusted drivers), or Treasure Tours, a local tourism company can provide transportation.

My husband and I spent a week at Serendipity Villa and loved it! The owners Evelyn and Jeff were there while we stayed and were available to answer any questions and checked in on us to make sure we were good. Very nice people, as are the neighbors, Ruddy and Judy – they stopped by a few times to see if we wanted some fish/chicken/lobster. The house is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare or reheat meals. The property has so many areas to relax in – the inside, the veranda, the pool, the sitting area below the pool (great spot to watch hummingbirds) – we loved them all. We rented bicycles for the week which is always a fun way to get around Treasure Beach. We walked to Lashings one night for dinner (very good) and took the path down to Calabash a couple of nights – headlamp and flashlight are helpful in the dark. It was a wonderful stay and we are already planning our trip back next year. Thank you - Evelyn, Jeff, Ruddy and Judy - for making our trip so enjoyable.

Our stay at Serendipity was all we were expecting and then some. Our host Evelyn and Jeff were there to welcome us, when we arrived, and show us around. We knew right away hat this was going to be a super relaxing place to wind down after 5 hectic day stay at a resort in Montego Bay. The views, weather, easy access to “downtown” Treasure Beach, and just plain peacefulness of the area made our 9 day stay go very fast. And we can’t forget to mention the joy and piece of mind we got from getting to know Ruddy and his wife Judy, that watch over the place when the host are gone. They were very helpful with all our questions and needs while we were there….especially regarding local Jamaican foods and meals! Because we had a rental car while we were staying here we took several excursions to area attractions which was a great way to experience much more of the real Jamaica. Not to take anything away from Serendipity but be aware that driving in Jamaica is not for the faint of heart. Besides getting used to driving on the “Wrong side” (left) of the road, the roads are very narrow, pot hole filled, and cows & goats in the road are a common experience. If you are not wanting to explore on your own you’re probably better off just hiring a driver to or taxi to bring you here. It’s an easy walk to to the beach areas of Treasure Beach so having a rental car is certainly not a necessity. Would we stay here again…absolutely!

Beautiful views, comfortable stay
Beautiful views, comfortable stay
My husband and I were pleased with the overall accommodations. Loved the views of the sea and Treasure Beach, being it is on the hill. Kitchen was sufficiently supplied so we could enjoy cooking and thoroughly enjoyed the pool! Trail down to a Breds park was fun to walk. Caretakers, Roddy and Judy very friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure getting to know them. There were nights we could hear the resort next door but couldn’t hear sounds in bedrooms so we had restful nights. We would stay again for sure.

Amazing 20th Anniversary
Amazing 20th Anniversary
Absolutely incredible. Everything was perfect. Started with initial contact with Evelyn who owns the property. She was quick to reply and provided all the details we needed. We were given the number for Judy and Roddy the Jamaican couple who live behind the villa and look after the property. We reached out to them ahead of time to see if we could bring anything for them as after traveling to Jamaica for 24 years we certainly understand how expensive everything is. We were set to arrive at the villa around 6PM, so I called Judy before we left and asked if she could prepare a simple Jamaican meal for us on arrival. Evelyn had also suggested we use Treasure Beach Tours to pick us up at the Airport and it worked out pefrect. We stopped at a grocery store in Mo-Bay to pick up some things and then proceeded to Treasure beach which took about 2.5 hours. As instructed we had our driver call Judy when we were about 10 minutes away so she could meet us at the villa with keys and instructions. Upon arrival Judy and Roddy met us at the gate and welcomed us with open arms. We were introduced to the home and how to work certain things. They also had a full dinner of Escoveitch fish, rice and peas, Bammi and festival, along with a bunch of fresh fruits. We ate with them and had an amazing converstaion. They are truly amazing people with big hearts and lots of history in the area. Our first impression of the property was WOW!! The view, the pool, the property, the inside, we were speechless. The next day Judy and Roddy came down early to make sure we were settling in and to drop off more fruits. The home is very humble with all the amenities you need and well looked after. Nice size living room with kitchenette, great bathroom, 2 bedrooms with master having walkout to huge deck and view of the sea. The infinity pool, although small, was perfect and provided an amazing view of the town below, sunset and the sea. Each day consisted of a walk into town which is about 10 minutes max, a visit to one of the bays that make up Treasure Beach and meeting local people. We walked everywhere, it was incredible. Each day also included afternoons by the pool, eating fresh fruit and listening to music and the all the wildlife. Each day ended with an incredible Jamaican meal prepared fresh by Roddy and Judy. We don't have enough room in this review to say all we would like to, but we will be going back next year. Thank you for an amazing 20th anniversary.

We had the most wonderful time in Treasure Beach. Evelyn and Jeff were the perfect ambassadors to this quiet little corner of Jamaica. They were able to fill in some of the local history and goings on without ever imposing on our space or sence if privacy. The pool was a sanctuary in the mid day heat and was an invaluable asset to keep us all cool. Our four year old loved it and was out splashing around everyday. The apartment was very clean and larger then it appears on the photos and the views are amazing. We would happily recommend Serendipity to anyone looking for a quiet stay in Jamaica and hope to be back ourselves before too long.
