After the damage from Hurricane Florence we decided to tear down the original “Above It All” and build back a larger, improved version of our Beach House. This is all brand new construction completed in 2020 that retains some of the feel of the original while making huge overall improvements.
Being so high up we knew it would be important to have an elevator. Our elevator is rated for passengers and not simply a cargo lift. It traveles from the ground level to the first floor of the house. Access to the second floor is only by way of the stairs inside, or take the more adventurous spiral staircase between the decks. We did make certain to have a master bedroom on each floor and all critical functions of the house, such as the kitchen, living room, laundry, etc. would be located on the first floor for those guest who might not be able to climb the stairs.
This newly built, modern, beach house is in a residential neighborhood in northern Surf City, near North Topsail Beach. The home is one-and-one-half (1½) blocks from the beach and just one-half (½) block from one of Surf City's scenic canals, lined with boats and large homes. It is 2 miles from the shopping/restaurant center of the island.
The two-level “Carolina Cape Cod” style home has a large, spacious living/dining room. A big kitchen opens to it. We added a little extra height to the floor with 9’ ceilings for a more open feel. The kitchen has been upgraded with quartz countertops, white cabinets and a powerful gas convection range with five burners.
There are four bedrooms, including a large master with king bed, and bunkhouse room that features a twin over full bunk bed on the first floor. The second floor has a queen size bed in the back bedroom and a Huge Grand Master Suite in the front. With the Queen Sleeper sofa in the Grand Master Suite we have actual beds for 11 people. We also do have a queen inflatable mattress available and the large sectional in the living room can be used for a little extra sleeping space as needed. We do provide extra linens should you need them during your stay. We even added a coffee station, wet bar upstairs, complete with mini fridge and microwave so you don’t have to go down to the kitchen if you don’t want to.
Of course we have to mention the decks and balconies!!! Huge Double Decker Decks off the front of the house with amazing views. Clear views of the ocean on one side, the canals on the other, and spectacular sunsets off the front. You can even see the new Surf City High-rise Bridge! The first floor Master and the second floor Queen room also have private balconies perfect for coffee in the morning sun. The Grand Master Suite has a set of double French doors that open out onto the upper sun deck!
LINENS ARE PROVIDED FOR BEDDING AND BATHING!
Modern coastal-style furniture, seascape paintings/prints and other island art decorate the home. (No smoking, please.)
We provide our guests a few extras to make their stay a little more enjoyable. Upon arrival you will have a starting supply of paper towels and toilet paper. No need to run out to the store right away. You will still need to provide your own for the remainder of the stay but this way you can hit the beach right away.
We will also be providing some of the other basic items that you might need during your stay such as Laundry Detergent, Dish Soap, Etc. Feel free to use them as we know that having to remember to bring all of the little item can be a hassle and we want to make sure that your time at "Above It All" is relaxing. You really only need to provide your own if you have a preferred brand.

We stayed in this beautiful beach home for a second year and absolutely loved it! The home was immaculate and tastefully decorated. Linens and starter supplies are provided. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need! All of the rooms are spacious and beautiful. There are plenty of beds and bathrooms to make everyone comfortable and happy! This home is just a short walk to the beach. We loved having the outdoor shower and access to the beach chairs/toys. The outdoor elevator was super convenient as well! We will definitely return next year! Thank you to the owner for the gift- a beautiful wooden charcuterie board with our family name engraved!

Above It All was a wonderful place for my family’s vacation. There were great views of the ocean and intercoastal boat slips and it was easy to get to the beach. It was so relaxing to sit in the breeze on the deck, chatting with my family members. The house is fabulous and has everything we needed and wanted. The kitchen is better equipped than our kitchens at home! There were plenty of paper supplies, soap, etc. We loved being able to all fit around the table for meals and games, and the sectional was big enough for games and movies for everyone. The elevator is a super helpful feature – it allowed my mom to easily go to and from the house and moving supplies was easy. Joel is a wonderful host – super friendly and a great communicator who answered our questions very quickly. We enjoyed our stay at Above It All and look forward to a return visit if we make it back to Topsail Island. Thank you, Joel!

Our week's stay at "Above It All" created many memories with our granddaughters. The space was large enough so all of us had an opportunity to have some quiet time. I have always loved sea turtles, and we were fortunate to see a nest hatch and the little turtles scamper to the ocean. It was absolutely amazing and was on the beach very close by. Our host was extremely responsive to any questions we had and made our stay special.

This was the second time we stayed at this property and everything was great again. The house is perfect for family groups with plenty of room for everyone and well stocked to keep everyone comfortable. Great time and we will be back again.

We had a great week at Above It All. The house was very clean and we loved the view, the breeze on the high decks, and the well furnished house and kitchen. Meals were easy to prepare and serve with the well equped kitchen and gas grill. The beach is only 2 blocks away. We will definitely come back. It is a great place for older adults with the elevator and great views from the decks.

This is an immaculate, beautiful, and extremely comfortable house that will blow you away. As much as I love and adore this property, the owner is even better. This home is beautiful! It has everything you need for a week’s stay at the beach. The home towers high above most of the homes in the area with amazing views from every balcony! The home is very clean and beautifully decorated. It is very spacious with 2 master suites! Plenty of room for everyone. We appreciated the plentiful supply of beach chairs, wagon, and sand toys. The outdoor shower, grill and fire pit were a bonus too. Thank you Joel for making us feel so welcome in your beautiful beach home!

We had a wonderful stay at Above it All! The house was decorated beautifully and anything we could have wanted in the kitchen was available. It allowed us to make several wonderful meals in the kitchen.
The house is laid out extremely well and allowed us ample room to spread out.
The walk to the beach was about 3 minutes and easily walkable with small kids. The decks on the main and upper level were beautiful and provided a great breeze throughout the day.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely look to stay here in the future!

Exceptional property, with everything you need to have a good time at the beach or at the house. Fully equipped kitchen (we used the waffle maker). Beautiful views from the decks…especially the top deck. Our family had a wonderful time and we all agreed that the house had everything we needed.

We stayed at Above it All with 7 adults and a 2 year old. The house was very clean when we arrived and had everything we could want or need. It was spacious enough for everyone to spread out and close enough to the beach to make coming and going with a 2yr old a breeze. Joel’s communication and response time was great. We use VRBO every summer for vacation rentals and this is by far the best place we have stayed at.

Our family stayed at Above It All this past weekend. We all loved the house. Our weather did not cooperate, but the house was comfy and we enjoyed hanging out. Everything you need is supplied, including spices, storage containers, every kitchen appliance you could need. The elevator was a real plus. Location to the beach was very convenient. The shed downstairs is packed with chairs, boogie boards, 2 wagons, etc. beds were comfy, ample blankets, towels, etc. the list goes on. Joel was very easy to get in touch with. We would love to come back to this house.

The home was well kept and well appointed. We appreciated the newness and the quality of the kitchenware. It was just under a 5 min walk to the beach and it was a nice clean stretch of beach. No complaints, we had a great time.

We had a wonderful stay at Above it All. The house was just as represented on site with all the amenities you would need. Upper deck was a great place to watch the sunset or a storm roll in with a cocktail. Plenty of room in the house for multiple families. House was real close to the beach, so we could go back and forth easily. Host was very responsive with anything we needed. Would definitely recommend this rental.

Despite it’s height, Above It All was above all, one of the most comfortable and well stocked homes that we have stayed.
Checking in and out was simplistic and the home owner was very responsive to any questions or issues that we had while staying in the home.
“Above It All” did not disappoint in any way, shape, or form. We certainly enjoyed our week relaxing with our two adult daughters.

Above It All is above them all in more than just the spectacular views. The home had everything we needed. Joel the owner was outstanding. Plenty of space for us all, plus the family dog. Easy beach access. 30+ years of renting beach property, this was by far our best experience.

In the words of my 13 year old daughter, “Absolutely, totally amazingly perfect!”. Beautiful views, very clean, spacious. Perfect deck for yoga, off the master. Convenient location to the beach. Karaoke system spectacular- enjoyed a fun night rocking through the ages. The house, the amenities…Joel and Shannon provided everything! We’ve been going to Topsail for 15 years and this was the best trip yet!!!

Above it all was a great choice for our family of two adults and three children. We were able to bring our dog which was so appreciated- we all had a blast at the beach and enjoyed all of the space in the house. The outdoor hose and shower were perfect for getting off all the sand from the beach. The grill was great to throw on a quick dinner and the washer and dryer were used and enabled us to pack less knowing we could wash and rewear. The decor and artistic style of the house was so, so cool— I always found myself looking at all the neat artwork! We appreciated the access to cleaning supplies and vacuums so that we could tidy up through the week and keep things feeling fresh. Everything we could have needed was in the kitchen to cook with!! My only wish was if there would have been shampoo/ conditioner/ body wash in the showers… it was my mistake but I didn’t think to bring multiples of each. With the endless hot water and four showers, everyone could shower at the same time when coming back from the beach except that we didn’t have the supplies to do so. A trip to the store fixed that, but just something to keep in mind. Everything else for the beach and house were provided and in great condition. Overall great, clean house and beautiful memories. Joel was a great host and I have no doubt that if we needed anything he would have been all over it!!

Our family had an incredible week at Above It All in Surf City, NC! We arrived to find that the house was immaculate and pristine from top to bottom. No detail was missed by the owner. There was a welcome bag of locally made chocolate treats that were delicious. Every bed was already made with the softest linens. The mattresses were so comfortable! The kitchen had every tool you can imagine and was equipped with wonderful appliances. The views in every part of the house are beautiful. The house was everything we hoped for and more, but I can honestly say that the owner is the icing on the cake. He was responsive, thorough, detailed, and kind. I'm so glad we found this house and this owner and we have already asked to book a stay next summer. Above It All will not disappoint!

Above It All is without a doubt the best house in Surf City. This was our third stay and as always the house was picture perfect. It is immaculately clean and welcoming, has all the supplies you could ever need, and the booking process and communication could not be better. We would never think of staying anywhere else on Topsail. Thank you Joel (and Shannon!) for making our holiday absolutely perfect! We’ll be back again soon.

Loved Above It All. It's the best VRBO experience we've had - and that's saying a lot.
The house is beautiful and modern. Plenty of room and all the amenities you could ever want, including a popcorn maker. It was incredibly clean (my father-in-law asked if it had ever been used it was so clean). The process for getting into the house was seamless and couldn't have been easier.
Joel was phenomenal - making sure we had the entry instructions, confirming we got into the house and providing additional details and tips about the house and area.
The location was excellent. Just two easy walking blocks from the beach and in the center of between Topsail and North Topsail so it was a short drive to any shopping, restaurants and activities. The beach wasn't crowded at all in this location.

The house is excellent, and the layout is perfect. 3 minute walk to the beach, and very convenient to the town and shops. Dog friendly, and my dogs loved the place as much as we did. I will be booking this house again next time I head to the coast. Joel was awesome as well, answered all my questions, no matter how trivial they were, in a timely fashion. I don't normally do reviews, but this house is very deserving of one.

Our host was extremely accommodating. The house was move-in ready ahead of the actual check-in time and the host messaged us to make sure we had everything we needed. Before our week began, I reached out to verify certain small appliances that we hoped were in the rental. One item that was not in the house, an electric skillet, was purchased by the host and available when we arrived. Really above and beyond the call of duty. All furnishings are updated and in good order. There was an abundance of towels and dishes so that we weren't constantly having to clean things. Hoping to come back and visit next year depending on availability.

Our family and pets really enjoyed Above It All! The house was clean and decorated perfectly. The layout of the house worked well for our family and having the four bathrooms was ideal. All the extra amenities were greatly appreciated, especially when you travel from a distance.
We took advantage of the decks and beautiful sunsets. The walk to the ocean was easy and the beaches were not too crowded and really nice. Joel was informative and helped out when needed. Would definitely recommend this property!
