About this house rental

This spacious newly remodeled five bedroom home sits at the end of a lane 2 miles south of downtown Guttenberg, IA. The mighty Mississippi is right outside of the house providing amazing views, opportunity for fun and a great place for families and friends to enjoy.

The home has two living rooms, each with a smart TV. There is no cable but you have access to various apps like Netflix, Hulu, etc. There is WiFi but due to the property location it isn't the fastest, please enjoy the amazing views out the large picture windows. The dining room and upstairs living room are an open floor plan providing a great space to gather while the lower living room is smaller and cozy. Enjoy your beverage of choice on our large deck or lower level patio with lots of seating. Bring some charcoal and use the grill! There is a large yard and outdoor space you can play your own yard games or kids can play.

UTV’s are allowed in Clayton County and in Guttenberg.

If you have a boat you can use the boat ramp at the marina in Guttenberg. You may be able to put your boat at our place depending on the river at the time.

There is NO smoking allowed on the property.

Please understand you are in the wilderness and next to a river. There will be bugs. We do spray for the common bugs but due to location we can't prevent them all. Shut exterior lights off at night, this will help keep bugs away. Of course, be sure to shut doors to prevent bugs from getting inside.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, including all appliances, utensils, pots, dishes, etc. Washer and dryer too. Cleaning item such as dish soap and extra trash bags can be found under the kitchen sink.

All linens are provided. sheets, pillows, and towels. There are some "outdoor" towels provided for play at the river.

Our lower level stays very cool and is very well insulated. The upper level gets blasted by the hot sun all morning. We recommend to leave the door to the basement open to allow cold air to come up by, be sure vents are open upstairs, and be sure vents in basement are closed. We also provide a few fans to use if you would like.

Please note that railroad tracks run by the home. About one train and a few barges pass by at night. We have provided disposable earplugs for your convenience.

The home utilizes a septic system and is very sensitive to anything other than the provided toilet paper being flushed. Anything besides toilet paper must be put in the trash. Only water can go down the drains, any grease needs to be thrown away in the garbage (Poor hot grease into a can, let it cool, and then dispose of it.). If the pump gets clogged from your stay we will charge you the fee to have it fixed.

A 4WD vehicle is needed to manage the lane and driveway if there is snow on the ground, other vehicles will be fine when there is no snow. Please, know the home is down a .25 mile gravel lane that we re-graveled in 2021. There is parking for 6 vehicles, do not drive/park on our grass.

There is an additional guest fee after 4 guests of $25 a person per night keeping the cost in line for small groups as well as large groups. The amount is calculated by Vrbo, enter the correct number of guests and dates to see the booking cost. Only booked guests are allowed at the home during your stay.

Housetrained, well behaved pets are welcome for $60 per pet per stay. Pets are not allowed in the home alone or on the furniture.

The home is located next to a bluff, there is a potential of falling rock. We are not liable for damages.

This rental worked very well for our family. Spacious, clean and views were beautiful. The town of Guttenberg was lovely as well. We went to the Farmers Market and a food truck at the local brewery. Shops were varied, and local coffee houses a must stop!

Stayed here with family when Grandson was playing in Field of Dreams tourney. Plenty of space, well stocked kitchen and a pretty setting on the rivers edge. A little crazy to get to and the trains going by were a little loud but we all said we would stay here again. Loved the wildlife! Owner was great about answering questions and giving us good directions. Perfect weekend.

Great open spaces to hang out with my 5 siblings. Great kitchen to cook meals together but also enjoyed a couple meals in nearby Guttenberg. A grill was advertised and we'd planned on that, but then learned it was still locked in the garage from winter storage so we had to alter a couple dinner plans. At least the host got back to me right away when we couldn't find the grill so we could stop looking for it. Short drive for a day trip to Pikes Peak and Effigy Mounds for hikes and amazing scenery. Good fishing near the house, as well as below the dam in Guttenberg, and also trout fishing not far away at Sny Magill Creek. Grocery store in town, Benders, had everything we forgot to bring ;-) Really enjoyed watching passing barges so close, as well as the trains going by. The train whistle was not nearly as loud as I thought it was going to be. The road to the house is a bit sketchy being so near the train tracks, but we got used to that. Would definately go back t this lovely property!

We all had a great time, beautiful view, comfortably slept 16 people. We were able to bring two boats and put them in the water at the ramp just below the house. The boats were beached during our stay and had no issues. The older kids had a blast catching crawdads and minnows, they fished by the boat ramp and out on the boats. We took the kids to the pool in Dyersville one day and they had a great time. (The Guttenberg pool had closed due to broken glass in the pool.) Wonderful memories made!

Lots of room and great views. Trains and boats as mentioned in the description, which can be noisy, but were really enjoyed by the kids. We got to watch a barge go through lock and dam 10 in Guttenberg, drive back to the house and watch it go by on the river, pretty neat!
