The Lake House has spectacular private water frontage and is furnished for those with discerning taste. It is a newly renovated three bedroom, two bath home on a 1 acre private wooded peninsula on North Pond, a lake that covers over 300 acres. It's a short 6 mile drive into picturesque Bethel Village, with several fine restaurants and pubs and other village amenities. The Lake House is ideally located in the Western Maine Mountains just a short drive to The White Mountains and Grafton Notch State Park in the Mahoosuc Range. We have covered bridges, swimming holes, waterfalls and terrific hiking. Bike, snow machine and cross-country ski from your doorstep. World class skiing at Sunday River is just a 10 minute drive. From our waterfront, there is a full Mt Abram Ski Area view. Your host is a PSIA certified level 3 Ski Pro and staff trainer at Sunday River. (Private coaching is available. Please arrange in advance of your stay).
The Lake House sits on a private peninsula with 270 degree water views ensuring ultimate privacy. Your arrival down a long gravel drive, and past our only neighbor will bring you to this pristine setting at water's edge. The house is a contemporary cedar shingled post and beam home, and has been totally renovated. Granite walls, steps and landscaping surround the bluestone patio walkway that leads up to the front entry of the two level home. The yard is very private with a large lawn area towards the lake. There is a sandy swimming area with a shallow entry to the water off the rock ledge and there are wonderful mountain views of Buck's Ledge to the east. Sit at the end of the dock and dangle your feet in the water, or throw in a fishing line. You can use our canoe and kayak (included in your rental) to paddle the perimeter of the lake or go out to the swimming island and dive from the ledges.
Relax on the upper covered deck or on the lower level patio area. There is a dining area on both levels, as well as comfortable seating areas and a Weber gas grill on the lower level. You will love the large outdoor stone fireplace for an evening camp fire during the summer. Just bring your s'mores and settle into one of the Adirondack chairs. Listen to the loons call and watch for the bald eagle. If you are lucky, he will land in one of the large pines on the property for a really close look.
The upper level of the home features a comfortable living area. The open concept kitchen, dining and living area flows out to the large covered deck through a pair of 8 foot sliders. The entire living area is wrapped with huge windows that provide water views in every direction. One of the two master bedrooms is on the upper level and is en-suite, with an air bubble tub. On the lower level, you will find a second master bedroom that features a private sitting area in a two room suite, with access out to the patio level. A custom tiled bathroom with a beautiful huge shower is located off the hallway between the downstairs master and the third bedroom. The third bedroom is furnished with a queen bed. The house is tastefully decorated with a pleasant mix of contemporary furnishings and lighting, including oak tables, comfortable leather seating and custom made Shaker style cherry/walnut bedroom furniture. Your comfort is assured with new mattresses and nice linens. The original Deck House has been custom finished by the owner/builder with high end finishes and appliances, custom tile work and lots of glass to capture the water views.
At the lake side of the house, the elevated covered deck features mahogany decking with cedar railings and a stainless steel cable railing system that allows an unobstructed view. It feels like a tree house, providing a retreat from the hot summer sun or the occasional rainy day. There are two teak steamer lounge chairs, two zero gravity reclining chairs and a Pottery Barn mahogany table with 6 chairs for outdoor dining.
There is also a covered patio below (walks out from the downstairs master) with four Adirondack chairs, a teak dining set for 4 and the gas grill. This covered patio area flows out directly to the large grassy lawn beneath huge pine trees that offer a bit of shade with just enough sun for a perfect vacation. The water views are everywhere you look.
The Chef's kitchen has granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. It is fully set-up with a Bosch dishwasher, a professional Electrolux gas range, refrigerator, microwave and a separate beverage refrigerator. A coffee maker, Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, blender and toaster, plus new cookware make the fully stocked kitchen complete. We keep a well stocked spice cabinet. The dining area consists of an island with stools and a large oak dining table with 6 chairs. The comfortable living area on the upper level has a pair of reclining leather couches to allow for plenty of seating around the large flat screen Smart TV with Amazon Fire Stick. A contemporary freestanding gas fireplace keeps the house toasty warm in the winter months and offers that Maine Lodge feeling you are looking for. The floors of the upstairs are natural oak hardwood and the cathedral ceiling is beamed, with cedar planking exposed. There is cell phone coverage, WIFI, 2 flat screen TV's, and a Blue Ray - DVD player. We provide an Amazon Firestick. There is a master bedroom on the upper floor with an en-suite bath, cherry vanity with granite countertops and a air bubble tub with shower. The furnishings in the bedroom are contemporary, in a clean lined Shaker style and include a king bed with night stands and a matching dresser with mirror. This master includes a walk in closet. A ceiling fan will keep a cool breeze moving at night.
On the lower level, the second master bedroom is furnished with a high platform king bed in cherry with two night stands and two matching tall chests. There is a paddle fan over the bed for a cool summer breeze at night. A large walk in closet also has the front loading washer and dryer. The adjacent study has a matching cherry TV cabinet, love seat and leather recliner and a second flat screen TV. The second bath is off the lower level hallway and has a custom tiled over-sized shower behind glass with a rainfall showerhead coming out of the beamed ceiling, and a handheld shower as well. The vanity in this bathroom is dark hickory with granite countertop. The lower level floors are tiled and the beamed ceilings have exposed cedar decking. Tucked away in the back of the lower level is a third bedroom with a queen bed and just enough space for the foldout ottoman to set up sleeping space for a third person in that bedroom.
For a small additional charge, we also have (for summer use only) a studio/guesthouse experience that can add flexibility to the sleeping arrangements and space requirements of your group. It will be a great escape for kids and adults alike, offering a true modern day Lake House experience. Use the space for reading, writing, or painting. Perhaps the kids will use it as 'their space' or make it your 'Artist's Retreat'. You will find a twin over full bunk bed with a trundle mattress under the double bed. There is an artist bench, and a table with four stools for game playing. There is also a half bath. (Cold water only) There is an additional charge for the use of the guest cottage to help cover costs and cleaning. We do not rent the guest cottage independant from the main house, so your privacy is assured. The beds in the cottage will require the use of sleeping bags, however for a small fee the double bed can be made up for an adult party. Rental of the guest house increases our property maximum to 8. There is a 2 car garage for our personal use. For your protection there is a security camera focused on the driveway and parking area.

We loved this secluded lake house, very comfortable and relaxing. Great space inside and out, comfortable beds and linens. Location is close to Bethel which has several great restaurants. Great hiking close by as well. We would recommend and stay again.

I have stayed in many VRBOs for the last several years and own a home that I rent through VRBO. This is the nicest home I’ve ever stayed in. Very clean, beautifully furnished and the most peaceful setting you could imagine!

Great Lake house

We brought our kayaks and enjoyed using them on the lake, as well as hiking in the area. Lovely site and well located for outdoor activities. The house is as described, attractive and well stocked with whatever one might need. Part of our party did not make it because of illness, but we sure would like to come back with them another time. They would love it, as we did!

Lovely home in a beautiful spot. The close proximity to both Bethel center and skiing makes it a nice winter vacation home base.

This was by far the best rental me and my family have ever used. The house is beautifully done and very comfortable. There are a lot of extras such as a wine/beverage fridge, high end appliances, mattresses, and linens. Comfortable furniture and layout. The hosts were extremely easy to communicate with. The views from just about every window in this home are unbelievable. Having the house on a peninsula gives you incredible panoramic views from the extra large windows in this home. The grounds were terrific. We didn’t see, or hear the one neighbor on the road and it’s extremely well manicured and peaceful having access to a kayak and canoes made the trip Even better. My husband spent most of his time fishing and me and the kids explored the Lake, the little island in the lake and jumping off the swim rock. Having a dock right out your back door was awesome. I spent several hours in the morning in the evening, listening to the calls of the loons out there. If you are looking for a very comfortable, high scale getaway on a lake, where you can just unplug and relax this is absolutely the place to go! We can’t wait to come back next year.

Came here to get away for a peaceful birthday celebration and was everything I was looking for! Property is absolutely stunning! Water views wherever you look. Took canoes out on water, enjoyed the fire pit and sat on covered porch sipping wine while it rained. Also had fabulous restaurants just short distance away. Would definitely recommend staying here!

This house is open and comfortable with nice views of the pond, great place to enjoy family time. My son caught nice 5 lb bass right off the dock. Nice pond to canoe and kayak around.

We had a great time enjoying this lovely lake house! We were in town during an unseasonably cold and rainy week and made good use of the gourmet cookbooks!

My family had a wonderful time at this amazing lake house. It was immaculate and the layout was perfect for us. There are two bedrooms on the lower level, a sitting room and a door that opens to a patio, which gave us our own space if we needed it. On the upper level, there is a master bedroom and the main living space. The two oversize sliding glass doors and many large windows provided breathtaking views of the lake and mountains.
A covered deck off the main living area was a nice place for our toddler grandson to play without us having to chase him (we used the baby gate provided). We ate at the table on the deck every night and enjoyed a thunderstorm there as well. The yard is spacious with a hammock and a dock. There is also place to swim, you do need to climb over rocks to get to it, but my grandson enjoyed swimming once over them. Laying on the hammock at night provided an incredible view of the many bright stars in the sky. My son and husband enjoyed fishing on their boat conveniently docked in the back yard. Seeing the bald eagle daily was very exciting for us. We also loved the sound of the loons on the pond. Fall and winter would be a great time to visit as well, which we are seriously considering. Scott and Carol were very responsive, kind and made the process easy.

We liked just about everything about this place. It sits on a great lot (best on the lake, we decided) with water on three sides, and enough of a yard to play croquet. The house itself is well-designed and well-appointed for a small group. With 4 people, each couple had a good-sized room, a comfortable bed, and a private bath. The nice kitchen had better cookware and appliances than most rentals we've been in. The lake is quiet—we heard loons and frogs and the screeches of a bald eagle family, not motorboats. Small bridges let us connect to the series of lakes via kayak (we brought three and there was one on the property). We had a fire in the nice outdoor fireplace. Scott took care of it quickly when we ran out of propane for the grill. The only downsides were: spotty internet—don't know if it was just the house or the provider—and, with no ladder on the dock, one of our group found it hard to get in out of the water for swimming. This isn't wilderness, and there was some road noise We are already talking about renting it again.

My husband, daughter, and I were all dazzled the minute we walked into the living room and saw the beautiful light and lake views in three directions. We skated on the lake for hours, skied at nearby Mt. Abram, and watched eagles building a nest on the island directly in front of the house. We were in search of some winter weather & fun - and we found it here. We loved our time in the lake house and definitely plan to return.

We stayed four nights while skiing at Sunday River. It’s about 15 min from the slopes jusr east of the village of Bethel. The property is amazing sitting out on a little peninsula surrounded by the lake on three sides. Private, clean with a fullly stocked kitchen. The sunrises over the frozen lake were breathtaking. Owners are excellent communicators and very responsive. Would definitely stay again if we are in the area

We've stayed at the Gould's home a handful of times now. No complaints here! Excellent house and location can't be beat.

Lovely property and a wonderful quiet lake - so peaceful and relaxing. The house was comfortable and very clean. Loved the back deck especially the rocking chair! Beds were comfortable and kitchen was great for cooking. The beach access was difficult for us as we are older, and we wish your website mentioned bringing firewood because we would have liked to use the outdoor fireplace but had no wood and were not there long enough to go to the market. Overall a really nice place!

We enjoyed our stay. The house is clean, has a “newer” feel. Great view of the lake and excellent access. It was a great fit for us.

Truly amazing house right on the water, just perfect for kids to play outside. If you have kids ages 6-13 then they will love staying here because of the yard, the dock on the water and kayak/canoe trips out to the big rock in the water. The house was clean, well furnished, and overall great. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is during the really hot days, the ceiling fans just didn’t cut it. It was too hot, they need an AC unit upstairs for the hot nights. Great house overall!

Beyond Expectations!
I can't begin to describe how wonderful this lake house & property is. The views are truly amazing, as you have a 180 degree view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The house is impeccable, updated beautifully with everything we needed. The Bald Eagle and baby in the island across from this property was the icing on the cake! We took a trip out to see them everyday via the kayak and we rented paddle boards - which also enhanced our trip. The lake is beautiful, clean, and was warm enough to swim in. The Owners were helpful and available for any need. Truly a great experience and highly recommend this property. Wish we would have stayed a bit longer! Hoping to come back some day!

An amazing property!
We had a great time staying at this wonderful property. We weren't able to use the kayaks/canoes as much as we hoped, but getting out on the water was amazing. Hearing the loons was a welcome addition! The house is very well maintained, clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the outdoor fireplace and cornhole on the expansive lawn. Highly recommended!

Great house in a special location
The consensus amongst the group when we left was "This place is amazing, we have come back in the summer". It really is everything that you'd hope it would be. As the title states, a great house in a special location.

Gorgeous Winter Spot
The home was modern and cozy, clean and comfortable with spectacular views and kind, helpful hosts. I would highly recommend this rental! Great proximity to Sunday River. The light off the frozen lake was magical. Upscale kitchen and plenty of space for a family.

Winter Ski Getaway
We loved our stay at Scott and Carol's house on the lake. The house was better than the photos, with nice modern updates. The beds were comfortable with plenty of extra blankets in the closets. We had 3 couples so the beds were perfect. There's a beautiful view of the lake to enjoy, and the fireplace was very enjoyable after a long day on the slopes. We skied at Sunday River two days and it was only about 20 minutes away from the house. Mt Abram seemed to be right down the street. The house location was great and we had plenty of dining options in Bethel and closer to the mountain in Newry.
Carol made the check in process so easy and made us feel at ease if we needed anything. We got some snow one night and woke up to the driveway all plowed which was very nice! We had a great time and would definitely come back and recommend this house to others!

Weekend lake house getaway
The house is as described in the listing and was perfect for our family with two children (teens). It’s very nicely updated, decorated and well maintained. There are beautiful views of the water from every room. The covered deck is a lovely area to have a meal, sit with your morning coffee or read an afternoon book. We enjoyed making s’mores in the outdoor fire pit and having access to the kayak and canoes is another fun activity at the property. You can hear a little bit of noise from the main road in the distance but this certainly wouldn’t stop us from coming back again. Only feedback for the future we could give is small and would be to consider providing a few more basic items in the kitchen like cooking oil and spray as well as aluminum foil.

Beautiful property
The house is beautiful - perfect setting for a relaxing getaway with friends. Very clean and comfortable, loved having the canoe and kayak for the pond. We spent lots of time on the deck enjoying the view, grilling, cooking, playing games, and enjoying the setting. Scott and Carol were super responsive hosts, I'd absolutely rent again.

Convenient lakeside getaway
Loved out lakeside holiday at this house...kayaked, paddle boarded, canoed, swam, snorkeled, jumped off swimming rock, and lounged in our inner tubes during a beautiful week of weather in August. The property is perfect for lounging locally, with easy access to Bethel and other outdoor adventures. Scott and Carol are excellent hosts. Note, you will hear the highway in the distance, so this property does not offer complete solitude if that is what you are seeking. It is beautiful nonetheless.

Great stay on the North Pond
We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days on North Pond. Kids loved being able to fish off the dock and take the canoes/kayak out daily. The water was still pretty cold, but they did manage to swim once out by the big rock. The house was beautiful and meticulously maintained. We have two suggestions - 1) adding a shade or curtain for the tall window in the upstairs bedroom as the sun had us up by 5am daily, and 2) adding cleaning up goose poop and cutting the grass to the cleaning process as the backyard was a bit of a mess when we arrived. Overall a great trip and we would definitely consider staying here again.

This is a beautiful house in a stunning spot. There was plenty of room for our family of four. The owners were very responsive to emails and questions.
