About this cabin rental
Wild Sage Barn was built in the 1800's by German immigrant settlers. Originally, it was a two-story barn made of hand-hewed limestone. Renovations added a living area, kitchen and bath. Authenticity of early settlers is found on some of the door frames which has penciled accounts of crop yields for 1889 and 1890. Built on a ten acre “out lot”, today it maintains the countryside atmosphere on the current two acres, even though it is located a few blocks from Main Street.
Inside this elegant barn you will enjoy the magnificence of the high beamed ceilings and original shake ceiling over the original part of the house. The master bedroom is a loft overlooking the fireplace in the open living area. It is majestically decorated with a king bed as the focal point of the room and topped with a beautiful comforter and skirt. The cellar serves as the second bedroom with its gun port windows which provided protection from Indians. Early Texas decor is found in the cellar along with a queen bed.
The living area, kitchen and bath have rustic cedar walls and ceiling. A limestone fireplace with a Texas Lone Star is delightful on a cool day. The kitchen is equipped for light cooking. A clawfoot tub in the bathroom overlooks a large oak tree and wildlife from the wooded area, providing privacy and relaxation.

Great getaway spot in town just off of main with an 1800’s rustic feel. Amazing.

Wonderful quaint little 2 room cabin. we were surprised that the second room was downstairs/basement type but loved the atmosphere. We were also surprised that there was not an oven to use. However we improvised for our dinner and it was lovely. Sitting on the porch we saw gorgeous deer and a little coyote. Definitely the retreat we needed!! Thanks for hosting us!!

We had a small issue that the owns took care of immediately!! I would stay again . Very cute cabin

This was the most charming bnb I have ever stayed in and I would love to visit again. It is so close to everything and yet it is very quiet and peaceful.

Relaxing, charming, and cozy experience. We loved seeing the deer coming from the woods nearby. Owner was very nice to chat with, and gave us privacy needed.

We celebrated my youngest daughters 50th birthday, enjoying the winery’s, shopping, food and Oktoberfest! This cute and cozy cabin was perfect for the 3 of us. Nice crisp mornings sitting outside with deer, coffee and cardinals. Perfect to hang out after a long day!!! Bob the owner was very personable and helpful.
Great trip!!!

Quiet, close to town, very fun stay at the barn.

I was very pleased with the property. What I wasn't pleased about was the note in the cabin that said if we use the second bed we would be charged an additional $25!!! I paid for a 2 bedroom place .... why the extra charge???

Cozy barn with comfy beds.

Great little cabin behind the main house. Don’t come here if you want a modern home. This is an old authentic German house. I though it was awesome

What a great place to stay! Cozy little barn conversion from the 1840’s. Less than a mile from main street but with the charm of an old times. Has everything you need. Will stay again if available!

Accurate and charming

We enjoyed the house and quaintness. The rather junky patio and backyard was not real nice to step out and see. The backyard could have been more pleasant to enjoy. For old folks the tub was hard to get in and out of.

Beautiful home in charming neighborhood

We loved seeing all of deer roaming the property

This historic building was really nice and we all loved the rustic but comfortable feel. Everything about our stay was just right. The host was so kind and helpful. Thank you!

Property is adorable. It is too close to the main house and did not feel there was much privacy. Neighbors are too close. Would have preferred to be more remote for this type of cabin.
Coffee maker was super slow. Bathtub / shower is adorable but not user friendly to the group.

The history of this location is amazing. You really feel like you stepped back in time with foot thick walls and 100+ year old windows. We sat and watched the deer in the backyard with coffee each morning and loved the peace it afforded being a mile from the action. A couple of tips to keep in mind is that there is zero privacy. You are in a barn with open ceilings and large cracks between the floor boards to see and hear the bedroom below. The shower is gorgeous but treacherous with a very deep step to get in and out with no rails and a shower curtain that clings to your every move.
Overall the place was clean, beautiful, natural and very relaxing.

So much character plus all the amenities!

Felt like we stepped back in time but with all the comforts of the 21st century. Great AC (for those that struggle with the Texas heat, it was a godsend). Loved the tranquility of the neighborhood. Just a $10 Uber/Lyft ride to town.

Host provided Such great attention to detail. A beautiful property. Cabin was beyond our dreams. Really felt like we were back in time. Just beautiful.

This house is adorable. We will definitely come again when we have more time. This stay was for business but we would love to stay again in the future and stay longer

The 1800's cabin was very neat and very well done. Great place to stay. The location was great and very convenient to everything we wanted to do, and was quiet and we enjoyed the wildlife in the yard. Owner was very nice and assisted on arrival. Only reason we didn't give it a 5-star was because of the management group "Gasthaus Schmidt" - after the booking we never received ANY type of contact with checkin/arrival instructions, so upon arrival we messaged requesting info on how to access, and after the owner let us in with his key, we received a message back from management group to come by their office and pick up a key so we had to head back to town to pick it up. Poor communication and inconvenient check in/check out procedure.
