About this house rental
When you choose to rent our cabin, you help us support non-profits and give back to communities. We donate our home multiple weeks throughout the year to families in need.
Cairn Cabin is fully equipped and has space for couples or families to unwind and relax. Enjoy a fire pit, grill, and kayaks in the warm weather. Guests must transport kayaks on their own...we do provide tie-downs and foam pads. There is a game room on the ground level with a 55 inch HDTV (we have cable or you may access your Netflix, Hulu, etc), gas stove, ping pong table, puzzles, board games, DVDs, corn hole, and giant jenga! There is also a spare room dedicated as a space to store your gear out of the weather. Stash your bikes, skis, boots, or other toys and know they are safe and dry. Borrow our yoga mats and find your zen on one of two decks while you inhale the smell of fresh pine. The main floor has a gas fireplace for cozying up on a cold night, another Smart TV and bluetooth speaker for entertainment options. Need a book, we have many from which to choose. Get hooked...take the book with you for another day. Sit outside and listen to songbirds, take a walk on one of the community trails, or let go in a hammock with a good book. Lake Eaton is steps away for canoeing or fishing. The lake beach area also has space for wiffle ball, volleyball, tennis, or grilling, and we’ll leave you everything you need to get started. There are multiple nearby access spots to the Ausable River for world class fly-fishing opportunities. No matter the season, our cabin will put you near the center of what you want to do. **Our home may not be suitable for small/young children or toddlers because of the open wooden staircases between floors.**
This secluded cabin is surrounded by tall pines yet close to everything the Adirondacks have to offer. Sign up for yoga or book a massage at the beautiful New Vida Preserve and then make a reservation for a gourmet meal in their A-frame dining room with a view of the mountains. Catch some live music at the New Vida bar or Rudy's Bar and Grill! Enjoy breakfast and coffee at the Adirondack Mountain Cafe. Whiteface Mountain is right down the road for hiking and mountain biking when the weather is warm or skiing when the snow falls. Lake Placid is under 30 minutes south where you can browse the shops on Main Street and relive the history of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics with a ride down the bobsled track, a chairlift to the top of the ski jumps, ice skating, or a toboggan ride onto Mirror Lake. Ausable Chasm is 20 minutes north with rafting, tubing, rappelling, and rock climbing for the whole family. There are 46 high peaks over 4000 feet if you want to challenge your limits. There are 10 craft breweries within a forty-five minute drive!
We are 25 minutes from the ferry to Burlington, Vermont where you can shop Church Street, ride the bike path, or enjoy one of the many outstanding restaurants.

We had a multigenerational family vacation. The property was perfect for our every need. There was ample space indoor and out. The Adirondack decor is beautiful. The house is a short walk to Lake Eaton. Whiteface Mountain and Lake Placid are a short drive away. We hiked nearby trails everyday. We will definitely stay again..

This place was like coming home. We had everything we needed. Our hosts quickly responded to any texts. Great location. Would definitely recommend and go back again.

This property is very nice. It is in a quiet neighborhood. It is necessary to drive out for restaurants and activities except for hiking or walking. It was well supplied and all appliances were in working order.

The location was very good. Close to a lot of trails and a lot to do within 30 minutes. House had plenty of space for our family. Upstairs bedrooms were very warm as there is one air conditioner not central air. Overall we would choose to stay again.

We had a small reunion with some college friends. This cabin was PERFECT. So clean, beautiful views, GREAT location, the list goes on and on. The listing did not do it justice! Thank y’all so much!

We enjoyed the kitchen with many pots, pans and utensils to use for making meals. The cabin has lots of beds and space for two families to relax and have fun together; including a ping pong tournament! Also loved the gas fireplaces which added warmth and ambience.

We stayed at the cabin for our Christmas vacation this year. Susan was so helpful and communicative from the beginning of the booking and through the entirety of our stay. The cabin is well taken care of, cozy and comfortable, clean and roomy enough for all 8 of us! The furniture and beds are comfortable, and the fireplace is great. The outside property is so quiet and peaceful - we had a lovely week and would love to visit again. Thank you Susan and Jim!

Our family came up to visit our Niece, her husband and their new 3 month old baby. We all went to the North Pole and the kids had a great time. A doe visited the cabin every am/pm. The cabin was so roomy for the 7 of us. Great 3 day getaway.

This log home is fantastic! Great location on a quiet road in the woods. Everything you need is there. Fully equipped kitchen, beautifully decorated and a ping pong table. I played more ping pong in 3 days than I've played in the past 10 years. We had a great time.

This is definitely a great place to stay if you’re looking to get away. Very peaceful and quiet but also very close to the high peaks as well as trails.

Great location to get to the mountains and Lake placid. You feel like you are getting away. Plenty of space for a large group or family. This is our second time visiting and will plan on coming back. Thank you for the great memories.

This is a great property in a very cozy and private setting, very good location for hikers, bikers and fly fisherman. The place was clean, exactly as described and the owners very fantastic to deal with and responded very quickly.

This was an amazing place to stay for our family ski vacation, the place fit us perfectly. Had lots of cozy time by the fireplace, fun family games in the basement and plenty of room outdoors to play in the fresh snow and great sliding hill. Highly recommend this place if you like to be away from the crowds.

Comfort wise, the beds and pillows were not good so I wouldn’t recommend if you have any back problems. TV in main living room makes a high frequency humming noise when volume is up. Location and outdoor space is great. Communication and check in with host is great. Nice to have a full kitchen and washer/dryer.

This is a very nice and clean Cabin situated in a beautiful section of the Adirondacks. A perfect location and house for a nature retreat, away from the crowds. Would certainly recommend to other groups looking for a solid cabin with all amenities in the outdoors of upstate NY

It was exactly what we wanted secluded enough to feel away from the hustle and bustle and just a short drive to restaurants and the hike peaks.

The one problem was the lighting upstairs in the kitchen and living area. It was not lit well and the dining seating was not comfortable. The couch upstairs was comfy and I took naps on it. Much better than the beds; they were uncomfortable for us. The woods were serene and very peaceful. We definitely enjoyed walking around the nearby lake. Thanks.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had enough room for 8 adults and a toddler. We loved eating our meals on the large patio. The sights/smells of the Adirondacks from the porch and the yard were refreshing. The weather was perfect for all our outdoor activities and the location was central to all we wanted to do-Little Whiteface Gondola ride, Ausable Chasm hike, Wilmington Beach park for playground/fishing/hiking. Grateful for the additional kayaks at the home. Couldn't ask for a nicer, more enjoyable place for our family get away. Highly recommend.

Beautiful setting. Quiet, peaceful, clean and comfortable. Well equipped property with helpful touches such as hammocks, adirondack chairs, citronella candles (although the bugs were next to nothing), rope lighting on the porch, magazines pertinent to the area, games and books galore and all the needed appliances including drip coffee AND a coffee press! We didn't spend much time at the cabin since there's so much to do in the area, but when we were there, we had all we needed in a home that is clearly loved and well maintained.

Ironman Lake Placid!!
My boyfriend and I booked this place for Ironman Lake Placid 2022, and it was perfect! Such a beautiful and clean home right near the back half of the bike loop. It was a wonderful place for our family to gather before and after the long race day. Thank you so much for the stay!

Excellent Home for Family Getaway
This house was great for our family vacation in July. Everything was clean and met the posted description. The neighborhood is quiet and the property is perfect for hanging out and having campfires. Drive to Placid is about 30 mins. Jim and Sue were excellent with communication. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful Mountain Living
Jim and Sue are wonderful, and their cottage is a dream. Lots of space both inside and outside the cottage to move about in. Cottage is very warm and inviting and you feel as if you are nestled in the trees. Placid is about a 30 min ride through some of the most beautiful high peaks, and if you want to see more go visit Keene and Keene Valley. Lots of deer and birds to greet your mornings with as well. Lake Eaton is a lovely hike to, and easy to get Kayaks to. Loved reading the two books Sue wrote, super cute. We love coming up north to the high peaks area when we are back home in New York. Thank you for such a wonderful place to be able to call home for a couple of days.

Worked for us
We lucked out weather-wise so did not spend a ton of time at the place, but it worked well for us and was accurately described. Didn’t feel like we were in a neighborhood at the place, but in a more secluded nice cabin in the woods.

Just what the Dr. ordered!
The house is in a secluded area but close to everything! We decided to buy groceries and make a majority of our meals at the house due to the time of year and not much open yet. House is fully equipped and perfect for all ages! We loved our stay!!
