About this house rental
Dream of going back in time? Take a trip down memory land when you come stay at School Street House, a genuine one-of-a-kind holiday experience that you just can’t find anywhere else. Happily situated downtown Charlottetown provides for handy day trips to all parts of Canada’s loveliest little province of Prince Edward Island. School Street House feels just like your favourite Aunt’s place!
Night at the Museum: School Street House is not only a guest house, it is a living museum filled with stories, historic photographs and artifacts. Some vintage treasures include a 1936 model Hammond BC organ with a Leslie 125 speaker, an 1880’s Thomas pump organ and a 1940’s record player. The furnishings and floorings date between 1900-1960 and antique china displays adorn period cabinets. School Street House is an old-time dwelling steeped in history and preserved since the turn of the last century.
Like a Message in a Bottle: Children's signatures discovered on an old plaster wall behind a hundred years of paint and wallpaper revealed that School Street House was the 1904 birthplace and childhood home of world renowned marine botanist, Dr. Constance Ida MacFarlane. Dr. MacFarlane is credited with putting PEI on the map as the “Irish Moss capital of the world.” Irish moss, a form of seaweed, is a major source of carrageenan, commonly used as a thickener and stabilizer in processed foods and products, including ice cream, beer, wine and toothpaste.
Strictly non-smoking, no pets property, no parties or events. Sorry, no exceptions possible. Minimum age to rent is 25. Provincial License number: 1200304.

Enjoyed the house very much, met our needs very well! Tom is a very gracious host and he gave us a very good history discussion about the house and furnishings. Very easy walk to downtown and the pier. If you’re there during warm weather, you should go upstairs to the window unit and get it going full blast as soon as possible. Once we did that and used the available fans, we were comfortable. Great experience!

The owner was very knowledgeable about the history of the house. The house was clean and well stocked with towels, dishes, utensils, soaps etc. Perfect size and location for 3-4 people. The only complaint we had was the mattresses were hard and could use an upgrade and a few extra pillows.

We spent 3 nights here with two of our adult children. The home is a generous size with comfortable rooms. Walking distance to the waterfront's many attractions and the historical sector of Charlottetown. A great experience.

Our host gave a warm welcome and introduction to the property. As promised, the house is definitely stuck in a time warp - and meticulously maintained.
Easy walk to downtown dining options. Quiet neighbourhood.
Thank you!

A preserved bit of history close to everything
This was a fantastic place to visit. Like stepping back in time to your aunties house in town. Simply restored with various period materials and appliances. Little slices of house and neighborhood history. Simple, down-to-earth, and clearly a labor of love. Would recommend.

Our family enjoyed our stay so much. The house was spotless and very clean. The furnishings and decor fascinated my children. They loved playing the old board games and sitting in the pupil's desk in the foyer. We would love to come back again for a visit.

Situated only a few blocks from the core of down town makes everything so neatly accessible..from the hip coffee houses, arts and cultural events etc. Big exhale and lowering of the shoulders upon stepping into School Street House. I slept in every day ...can't remember the last time that happened. Maybe it was the relaxing soaker tub that I couldn't get enough of or the comfortable bed and linens. School Street House is stocked with everything you need and then some. Very clean and well maintained! The native birds in the back yard were a bonus too! I am already planning a summer stay this year. Can't wait to go back.

Perfect, Lovely House from Yesteryear.
We were in town to visit Family and decided to stay at a place that offered more that the typical hotel. This was perfect. Quiet. Historic. A comfortable getaway with all the amenities one needs. I loved soaking in the deep clawfoot tub. The owners were close by in case we needed anything but we hardly saw them. The house is on a quiet Charlottetown street but close to restaurants and shops. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Great Place! Great Stay!
It's like going back in time to a quieter, more relaxed world. A lovely home, lovingly maintained - and a unique experience. Within easy walking distance of downtown and The Charlottetown Festival, it was a bit like walking from one world into another. I was made to feel completely welcome and I would happily return the next time I'm in Charlottetown. I would highly recommend it.

great place to stay!
I would recommend School Street House to anyone who will be in the Charlottetown area in the near future. It is clean and spacious and its like a trip back through time. Each room has the feel of a different era in PEI history. Our family had a relaxing stay and the hospitality was second to none. I can't really say enough good things about it, but I will include 1 more: location, location, location!!
5 stars!

Cozy Haven
Truly a home away from home. My stay at School Street House was too short, but so sweet. As a first time visitor to PEI, I can hardly imagine a more idyllic retreat that mirrors the warmth and charm of the island. My next visit to PEI will be longer, and I look forward to sharing this little gem of a place with my husband.

Home away from home
Our stay at School Street felt like going to vacation at your favourite aunt's! Everything from the crisp, clean space to the well preserved and tasteful furnishings and classic instruments are there to be enjoyed. Tom and Diane, the owners, live next door and went out of their way to make our stay perfect, and being within walking distance from the downtown nightlife on a quiet street made our stay stress free and so relaxing. I can't wait to go back.

Lovely peaceful place
A walk through time. Lovely spot to settle after a day of sightseeing and walking around the city. Everything works wonderfully, and the ambiance of the house is such that it puts one at ease the moment you walk in. Will be back again!

Amazing. unique experience
Wow,
Our stay at School Street House was fantastic. staying in a museum is so very interesting. We loved the clean and beautiful accommodations, as well as the friendly people. Vacationing in PEI had a new twist for us being based in Charolette Town. We got to enjoy all the urban attractions and were still close enough to hit the beach at Cavendish and tour Green Gables (for the 3rd time :)) My entire family would recommend School Street House to anyone planning to visit PEI. Thank you for enriching our experience by providing such a pretty and compelling environment for us. We give it an A+ rating!
We will be back!
