About this house rental
Does Mooring Buoy 187 look familiar? If so, you may have seen it featured on HGTV’s “Vacation Home for Free” TV show. Walls were knocked out, rooms reconfigured, and everything raised to the level of a dream vacation getaway when this beautiful vacation home in the Palmetto Dunes neighborhood was completely renovated. Featuring four bedrooms and three beautifully outfitted bathrooms spread across one level, Mooring Buoy 187 can accommodate 12 guests (and your furry friends) comfortably! Mooring Buoy 187 is only five rows from the beach! Walk to the beach in five minutes or hop on a bike and be there in two.
Mooring Buoy 187 is a sprawling ranch style home with a deck that backs up to a lagoon where you and your friends can kayak. If you have a kayak, be sure to bring it! This is a home that welcomes everyone, including your pets. The open design allows full accessibility for the mobility challenged and also makes it safe for any young ones in your group.
When you drive up, you’ll discover there’s plenty of parking in front of the beautifully landscaped Mooring Buoy 187. With a yard this nice, you might linger for a few moments before you dive into your vacation! This is a home designed for outdoor living and features a covered patio area with comfy chairs and Adirondacks. The real showstopper is the deck out back that is right on the lagoon. There’s a gas grill where you can prepare the fish you plan to catch off the Harbour Town pier or on a fishing charter. You even have an enclosed outdoor shower in case the kids need to wash off sand from their trip to the beach.
Mooring Buoy 187 is just as spectacular inside as it is out. An open floor plan with skylights, large windows, and wood floors gives the home a warm, inviting feel that draws people together for conversations, games, and fun. Sleek and modern, but exceptionally comfortable, furniture is a hallmark of this immaculate property. In addition to the main living room with its decorative fireplace, there’s a den containing a huge 60-inch flat-screen TV with cable. With so many options, your biggest group decision may be what to watch! There’s also free WiFi and a CD player to add to your enjoyment.
With Coco’s on the Beach and the restaurants of Shelter Cove Marina close by, you have many options for dining out. However, with the beautifully updated Mooring Buoy 187 kitchen at your disposal, you may prefer to make a trip to the nearby Kroger’s or Whole Foods Market and prepare your meals at home. Brand-new white cabinets, Bosh stainless-steel appliances, and sprawling black countertops make cooking in this kitchen pure delight. You have everything you need from cookware to serving ware and utensils on hand.
If you’re not dining outdoors on the patio (there's room for six!), you can gather your group around the dining room table. The ingenious design of Mooring Buoy 187 creates an actual dining room while also keeping the space open and accessible to the flow of the home design. Every meal you serve in this dining room will feel special. The table seats up to six. If additional places are needed, you can seat up to six additional guests at the breakfast bar.
There’s so much to do and see on Hilton Head Island that your days will be filled with fun. Within Palmetto Dunes there are three golf courses, an award-winning tennis facility, and a General Store. You’ll also want to visit Harbour Town to tour the lighthouse, book a dolphin-watching cruise, shop, and maybe rent a bike to explore the extensive trail system on the island.
When you’re ready to settle in for the night, you’ll love slipping into your king-size bed in the primary bedroom. If you can't fall asleep, there's a 60-inch flat-screen TV to catch up on your favorite shows before a restful snooze. The room has access to the deck where you can enjoy a late-night cocktail by the lagoon before drifting off to sleep to the gentle stirrings of the ceiling fan or enjoying the dancing flames of the remote-controlled fireplace. Your primary en-suite is just as impressive. With its dual vanities, each with a sink, and lots of counter space, you’ll be able to get ready for your day at your leisure.
The second and third bedrooms each include a comfortable king-size bed, ceiling fans, and sitting areas as well as their own en-suite bathrooms with walk-in showers for the ultimate guest experience.

Ok let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. I agree with previous visitors who had issues with bugs. Since this is a known issue (even the pest control mentioned that they always get calls about this property) the property should always be sprayed down PRIOR to guests arriving. This was an unnecessary headache that could have been avoided.
Second, the portal was a bit confusing. We were not given a code and had to call in to have the portal reset. Also, it wasn't made clear that the parking passes were needed to ACCESS the property gate. The portal just says that the passes need to be picked up from the office and keep on the car dashboard.
Lastly, there were too many check out reminders. We received 2 or 3 reminders the day before. The day of checkout we received another 3. Guests don't need that many reminders about check out. One reminder the day before is sufficient.
Outside of those things the property itself was lovely! Access to the beach is within walking distance (a few minutes). The neighborhood is quiet and tranquil and the property was well cleaned. The customer service was amazing! Ms. Diane was VERY responsive anytime we reached out to her and was an absolute joy to work with. This more than made up for the few hiccups we had : )

The house was great and had plenty of space for us to spread out. It was a very short and easy walk to the beach and a short drive from everything we needed. It was bright and open and great for our young kids. (Some of the rooms let in a lot of light, even with the curtains closed in case you have little kids that need darkness.) We would definitely stay here again. The only negative: there were swarms of mosquitoes as soon as we stepped outside and as we walked to the beach. Nothing to do with the house other than being close to the lagoon but we didn’t get to enjoy the backyard or porch as a result. Had a nice trip and thanks for having us!

This property worked great for my 95 YO mom. very minimal steps and one bedroom had a relatively low rise bed with bath attached.
Kinda odd at the price point that many supplies (toilet paper) are not included

Great house, open floor plan, very clean and well maintained
Great experience, a bit of a walk to the beach, only thing that could have made the stay better would have been a wagon to transport stuff to the beach

Perfect for a multi-family vacation
Perfect layout for multiple families. The room with 2 bunk beds, a sofa, and TV was great for the 3 teens to sequester themselves. The bedroom and bathroom layout allowed the 3 couples privacy while the large living room, dining room and kitchen area allowed ample space for the whole group to be together. Easy walking access to the beach and close stores and restaurants were perfect.

Relaxing Getaway
We were in town to visit our son who is in the navy. We were very comfortable in the house. They had enough staples to get us through the weekend. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach. It’s a beautiful, quiet neighborhood with large trees everywhere. We were able to sit on the back porch and drink coffee while watching birds stop by for a visit. They had games, books and television for entertainment. We would definitely stay here again.

Great location but not great upkeep.
The location of this property was excellent. The beach is a short work away which made it easy to enjoy morning walks & bike rides. While the living space design was great, it was hard to totally relax because the place has a pest control problem. When we arrived the room my daughter was supposed to sleep in had several large dead bugs in the middle of the floor. She refused to sleep in that room. The outside maintenance was also not up to par especially compared to other houses on the street. The gutter was filled with dead leaves which attracted mosquitoes. We used a lot of mosquito repellent whenever we entered or left the house. We also could not use the beautiful back yard. Spider webs covered much of the furniture making is seem that the outside was never properly cleaned for the season. I complained and the management company did come out and cleaned a couple of dirty cushions but didn’t clean the grill or the rest of the backyard area. On the last day a pest control person arrived and when I asked if he was spraying for mosquitos, he said he was spraying to kill roaches. I am glad they arranged for someone to spray. It was just a little to late. I paid a lot of money to rent this house so we made the most of it. However, we were very careful when packing to leave so that we wouldn’t bring any unwelcome friends back with us. A review from a few years back mentioned the pest but I trusted the owner’s response which said they had taken care of the pest problem. I will not pay more attention to the one or two problematic comments when using VRBO in the future.

Great house & location!
We had a wonderful week at this house! There was plenty of room to hang out inside & outside for our family. We loved the short walk to the beach and close proximity to lots of dining and shopping choices in addition to the beach. We would definitely stay here again!

Poor Communication
House is a great layout and lots of room, pretty much everything you need. Unfortunately communication was an issue. We were never notified about what to do during a tropical storm/ tornado warning then the next day the debris was a mess and no one ever came to clean up or check on us. the driveway had limbs, and debris everywhere. A limb even hit our rental car and dented it (we had to file a claim), I know that isn't your fault, but the rest of the mess needed cleaned up. Luckily everyone was very careful walking and riding their bikes through it. When I reached out about turning on outdoor lights no one ever got back to me.
Other than communication the location and house were great!

Two under 2
I visited with my wife and two kids under 2. The cons first:
I read other complaints regarding bugs. I shrugged this off, because I’m not overtly concerned with bugs. I will say that there was an exceptional number of wolf spiders and a couple brown recluses that we killed to the tune of 4 or 5 every day within the home. There is obviously an issue with this. A couple of German cockroaches showed up dead, so they are obviously addressing the situation with a pest co trip service, but I feel like the property manager was not up front about this, AT ALL. And with 2 children crawling/walking around on the floor, I am preoccupied with the question, “Are they crawling around in insecticide?”
The main kitchen garbage can foot pedal was broken, rendering the dog/child proof garbage can human-proof, in general.
No access to the garage, either, which was extremely inconvenient considering the bikes and kid trailer which we were forced to store inside the other guest bedroom.
Now the pros:
Having said that, the property was otherwise extremely child-friendly with plastic bowls, cups, and plates. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the beach which we didn’t mind. The rooms are spread out enough so that there is no noise overlap to risk awakening sleeping kids.

Worked out okay
Good property with a few amenities. Close to beach and super quiet and fun neighborhood
The allowing pets is a bummer. Pet hair can be found everywhere especially the couches and beds, despite cleanings best efforts I think it is hard to clean. Lesson learned for us to not book properties that allow pets. The bunk bed room is fun but I have a feeling it is the pet room. Dog hair everywhere and had a smell that reflected that. For what we needed it worked out okay.

Great location near the beach.
Five minute walk to the beach.
Quiet neighborhood.
The T.V. room off the master bedroom smelled of urine. That is why we only gave a 2 star rating.
It would have been nice if there was a blender, more cereal bowls, sharp steak knives and a water pitcher.
Lower kitchen cabinet doors needed adjustment.
Bathrooms and kitchen were really clean.
The wood blinds in one bedroom were very dusty.
Plenty of hot water and the bed was comfortable.
Washer and dryer worked well.

Pretty house in good location
The house layout and condition of the house is good. The location is also nice, you can walk to the beach, for everything else you need to drive. The kitchen equipment overall is good, except it lacks enough silverware when you plan to dine in a lot.
There were dog hair and dog smell in the home. That might be just unavoidable when you have a dog or allow dogs in the house.
Overall I would recommend the house for renters who bring a dog.

Perfect Get-Away in Hilton Head
We absolutely loved this home! It provided the perfect Hilton Head get-away. The house is spacious, comfortably accommodating 5 adults. The rooms are bright and beautifully decorated. There are large windows facing several patios and the lagoon and the kitchen is large, beautiful and well stocked. We loved all of the different pretty sitting areas both inside and outside of the house. Also, the management was responsive and easy to work with. And the location could not be better. The neighborhood is phenomenal! There are beautiful homes on tree lined streets and the beach is a short walk away. There are bike trails in the neighborhood and a tennis/pickle ball club close by. And we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurants and all there is to do in gorgeous Hilton Head. We hope to be back soon!

Few issues
House is decorated really cute...location is not bad via bike to the beach. The biggest issue is the overwhelming amount of pests in the house and the wasp/hornet nests on the patio - really need to spray. Good value for the space.

House was very nice and clean. Great location and fabulous back yard.
Microwave did not work the entire time and the trash was left out back by previous renters and only gets pickup up 1x a week. Animals got into it and smelled. Needs to be pickup 2x a week. Inconvenient to pick up and drop off key.

Comfortable home for multi generational vacation. Property was just as pictures show and communication good from property manager. We were short some towels but I called and they brought them same day. Easy walk or bike to the beach.

Perfect home for a RELAXING Vacation!
We have been so fortunate to have decided to be on the Island for a month in this beautiful home. Our original plan was two weeks, and when the coronavirus hit, we extended our stay another two weeks! This home has been heavenly. Not only is it a great size for a family of 4, (plus a dog who has fallen in love with the beach) but it is a great layout!
The home is set back in a very private part of Palmetto Dunes, making it very quiet with less traffic. Walking to the beach takes 7-8 minutes, yet only a 2 week bike ride!
We will definitely return to this beautiful home. Vtrips did great communicating with us and we were lucky to be able to extend our stay.
