My brother and I were on a motorcycle tour of Wales, and we were permitted to park our bikes directly outside the reception area, which gave us some added comfort regarding the security of the bikes.
The room was very comfortable and breakfast was excellent.
Unfortunately, the restaurant is not open on a Sunday evening, so we had a half hour walk into town to find something. The staff at the Oriel Hotel were very helpful with directions and suggestions of places to try.
Restaurant closed on Sunday.

Good breakfast.
Large room.
Quiet.
The hotel was dog friendly but the owners dog was a large alsatian that flew out the front of the hotel and over the road when we were walking our dogs. This was quite alarming. Fortunately the dog was friendly, but I think there should be a warning that the dog was loose.

Good location to visit St Asaph

Location wise it was good
Very dated, rooms need modernising. Mother struggles to walk and no lift so she could get to her room on 2nd floor. Admittedly we did not request a ground floor but didn’t think we would need to as most hotels have lifts and accommodate disabled people.
1st morning came down to breakfast at 8.30 and there was nothing ready!!
Bed was quite uncomfortable

The Oriel is well placed to explore North Wales and the leisure facilities are very good. The room was very spacious and very comfortable, although the brick wall view from the window wasn't perfect, but this did not affect my stay.
The food was tasty and reasonably priced with a standard buffet breakfast choice.
The bar choices are fairly poor and the prices are a little strong for the location.

Location was great for where we were going for the night.
There was nothing in the room that warranted £168 for the 1 night!! There was no fridge. There was no hair dryer. Even Prem Inn has these. If we'd known this, there was no way we'd have booked & paid £168 for 1 night. The silicon in the bathroom was mouldy, dust all along the skirting boards, very basic tv package & the toilet seat had not been sufficiently cleaned. To be honest, I was very surprised with the cleanliness of the room

Staff were friendly, pool staff very helpful and the facilities were good. Grounds to the hotel were very nice. Very nice breakfast. Rooms are a good size and comfortable.
Sadly, our room was only partially cleaned, still had rubbish in the bin and half empty open shower gel at the side of the bath.
Bar area is so quiet, i.e., only music you could hear was from a party in another room.

Excellent food but a little slow maybe they were cooking it fresh.
£17.40 2 pints of bitter. Robbing B#£&,A*ds.

Quick to get a partial refund. Decent size car park. The reception area looks nice. The website looks nice. Free use of leisure facilities. Nice property with a LOT of potential. Some of the staff are professional and are doing their best - the saving grace of this place.
Dated room. Bathroom and toilet not cleaned, although toiletries restocked. A lot of build-up on the extraction fan, so doesn't seem like a one-off but more an ingrained issue here. If I hadn't been desperate to get out of the rain I'd have carried on to go somewhere else.
If you're using the leisure club, avoid the changing room and lockers. Sauna a bit low at 65°C, but recently redone and pleasant enough.
The breakfast area is closed off from the restaurant area with huge dark partitions which blocks the lovely view and makes it quite a gloomy place. There's not even background music. Pretty awkward. Breakfast itself is pretty basic for such a big place, and some items from the menu were missing from the so-called "continental" selection. Cheeky price in return for what they offer, but it was included with the room this time.
When I asked the receptionist about the leisure opening times, she huffily told me that she already explained where to find them (was a bank holiday though so wanted to be sure, my bad I suppose).
I was told also that there's no laundry service, even though it was stated among the facilities (and the reason I chose this place - I see this has been fixed now), next day I was told there IS an option to send items off for drycleaning after all, unfortunately too late for my needs.
The food is pretty poor on a very basic level, you could send your staff on a cookery course or have them google cooking principles once in a while, this should instantly improve things.
Something is off here. This place is not as grand as the owners seem to think it is. Plenty of humbler places have received better ratings from me, simply because they know what they are and what they have to offer.

Lovely large clean room.
Breakfast was buffet style had plenty to chose from.
Bed was a little to soft for me.

1st breakfast was good, lady who checked us in was nice
2nd breakfast was awful. Room had no heating on when we got there so cold. Poor/no lighting in bathroom. No teabags left for 2nd morning

Evening food in the restaurant was nice, I had steak & ale pie and my wife the chicken. For a hotel the price was good value with drinks reasonable too.
Staff were friendly and the place had a family run feel. Car park had lots of space.
No soap in the bathroom, I had to use shower gel. Room was clean but could probably do with a slight makeover to bring in line with the communal areas. No lift to the first floor, for me not an issue but maybe for older guests.

Shocking bar service. Poor Evening menu and service only 3 mains options. 7 adults in restaurant and 1 hour wait for first course.

Car Park was big. We saw a squirrel.
I booked two deluxe rooms. One was a very tall room at the front of the hotel and it had not been dusted properly for some time. However the bed was comfortable and the towels clean. The other room had not been made up. My family members were given another room, this had not been made up either. The family members were given the honeymoon suite as recompense, and although adequate the room did not impress.
Breakfast was disappointing to put it politely. Coffee from a 10 litre urn, ordinary bread for toast, cheap yoghurt. We didn't have the cooked items, but the sausages looked very pale and the bacon had had a brief acquaintance with something called heat.

Gym had wide selection of weight machines. (no CV machines). Chicken pie for dinner tasted nice.
Breakfast came out slowly, one item at a time...so if you want a full English you can't actually get it at 7 when breakfast opens...best wait till 7.25. Doesn't help if you need to get to work. Coffee was very watery and cheap,. Understaffed. Dinner service was via a moody teenager who needs to be trained on how to wait tables. Dinner took 40 mins to arrive...a chicken Pie. I filtered by Gym...this has weights benches but no treadmill, cycle or CV machines of any kind...the room felt crowbared into a room with little natural light, fine if you're looking for the "in a prison vibe".
Rooms have been painted by Bob aged 6 and 3/4's ...he's kept within the lines in places and gone over handles, rails, door frames and even mirrors in other areas. Nailed that "tatty and worn" look we all want. This is nothing compared to his sister, Helen Keller, the cleaner who's clearly ignored dust and dirt in any of the harder to reach places in favour of focusing on wiping down the 45 year old furniture.

Facilities we’re good including swimming pool. Conservatory very nice and we particularly valued the dog friendly touches
The downstairs room we were in was stifling hot which caused my husband to have a panic attack. As he felt so I’ll we left that evening rather than staying the night

The location was ideal for our requirements and the hotel was good value for money.
The staff were excellent and dealt with everything asked of them in particular Ann on reception when we arrived, Beth who looked after us for drinks and our evening meal and Amber on check out. The evening meal was lovely - and great value so a big thank you to the chef also, even though we didn’t see him.
Only stayed the 1 night but seems a little dated from when we stayed there before some years ago.

convieniet location for north wales attractions. Bus stop outside the hotel, which we used quite a lot of times to visit attractions.
Breakfast was ok, apart from one morning when a young waiter was quite rude to my husband when asked for a fresh egg and bread, replied the eggs were replenished recently (which we disputed) and asked for some white bread, to which he replied "it's over there" but hadn't checked that there was a supply of fresh bread available. Lesson in customer service needed. Also expensive bar costs. We ate at a local pub two nights, which was excellent.

Breakfast buffet was good.
Still cleaning rooms after 3pm. Thought all rooms should be ready prior to this time. Had to wait, but, in fairness, the hotel did supply us with beverages while we waited.

lovely hotel bright and clean
restaurant was closed in the evening only one member of staff on reception who then also staffed the bar at the same time

Very friendly staff, our room was clean and well aired.
Had dinner in the restaurant and it was very nice.
We had to leave early in the morning, before the kitchen was open for breakfast. The reception staff were happy to open up the breakfast room for us to help ourselves to a continental breakfast.
I would not hesitate to highly recommend this for another stay.

A well stocked and good breakfast - both veggie and full. Comfortable beds and friedly staff.

Breakfast was a continental breakfast due to the date it was the only breakfast offered but was excellent. Beautiful ham and cheeses plus jams etc. I was told in advance it would be continental breakfast only and I was not disappointed.
A larger TV would have been appreciated. Two chairs in the room were looking a little tired. As I arrived on 2nd of January no evening meal was available nor full English breakfast the following day.

It was very nice and it was a very quiet and relaxing stay

The hotel was located in an area which we visited many times in years gone by. It offered us a great opportunity to revisit the coastal areas of North Wales. We were able to explore in the day and relax in the evening in comfortable surroundings.
The view from the room (walls and flues) perhaps reflected the very competitive price. However, since we visited in January this did not present a great problem.

Loved the swimming pool, and the meals in the dining room were very lovely and the staff in there too were very helpful.
Nothing, was worth the money we spent on the room.
