Built in 1795 by Captain Nathaniel Clarke (a descendant of Capt. Thomas Clarke. The Nathaniel Clarke Homestead is steeped in maritime history and lore.
This is a five bedroom, 2 bathroom home with a working fireplace and a magnificent front and backyard that hosts 👰weddings🤵 family and friends reunions and venues . The home sleeps up to 8 people and is ideal for vacations, weddings, corporate retreats or reunions.
The property is near to beaches, nice restaurants, casinos and attractions.
The greenhouse/garden was featured on HGTV and served as a filming location for the awarded 2012 Indie film "The Word".

The Nathaniel Clarke Homestead remains an elegant emissary from our old times of colonies..
Giant sugar maple trees shade the long back lawn of the property, on the banks of the Oyster River and tidal marshlands. The front yard is set back from the Boston Post Road.
On the inside, the house affords modern amenities while retaining the old world charm and quirks of an historic New England Homestead.
Steeped in history and maritime mystery, the house is a classic that hearkens back to the time of pilgrims and yeomen who built New England from its pristine wilderness and made America the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
It also features a large back and front yard, with enchanting flowerbeds and barns- a historic jelly shed, and a corn crib. These out-buildings enhance the atmosphere and the privacy of the property, bordering it into 2 separate sections, one of which is technically off-limits to guests with a separate access, without interference. Their usage is reserved by the owners.
The parking is provided for 5 cars, even though it can host more. If more spaces are needed, please consult us as the owners may reserve a spot for their own usage, from time to time.
The back yard features a grouping of Adirondack chairs, an outdoor grill area, picnic area, and a swing, hanging from a huge old maple tree. Read, enjoy a nice sunbath, or push your children on the swing.
The property is of course an ideal place for retreats and large parties such as weddings and other ceremonies, for which first class catering can be organized at a very affordable cost.
The greenhouse is another one-of-a-kind feature and a particularly pleasant place to sit and enjoy the view of the garden, surrounded by huge maples, providing a nice shade during the summer time.
The property was featured by the HGTV Design channel and thereafter was selected for the shooting of the film "The Word", 2013 WINNER of BEST DRAMATIC FEATURE (Manhattan Film Festival) and 2013 WINNER – SILVER ACE AWARD (Las Vegas Film Festival). One of the primary scenes of the film that was filmed in the greenhouse.
The owners have given a particular attention to the quality of the linen and to the bedding to provide you with a very comfortable night sleep. The cleaning is handled by a crew of professional housekeepers.

7 of us ladies stayed at this property to celebrate a bride to be with some quality time. This house accommodated us perfectly; there was ample room for us. The close proximity to the beach was a huge plus! Yvette was also very communicative. Thank you so much, Yvette.

We hosted a family reunion at this property and it was a perfect choice, with its large level shaded yard - just right for chairs, tables, tents, and lawn games. The house was comfortable for our immediate family of eight, and one of the hotels down the road provided a discounted block of rooms for all other out of town family. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to have the same type celebration.

The property and house are wonderful and fit our group of 10 friends perfectly! It was a great place for us to gather before celebrating a dear friends wedding down the road. We loved the green house room at night and we’re able to hang outside during the day. Highly recommend!

Charming home. It was perfect for our family to stay in while attending a local wedding. Older home but well maintained. We did have some issues with the electrical and some oultlets not working and tripping a fuse, but this was a minor inconvenience and not surprising given the age of the home.

There was plenty of sleeping room in this lovely old house and the living room was decorated charmingly. The kitchen is tiny and the house is on a busy road. The bedrooms upstairs are small and have low ceilings, but those downstairs are lovely.

We stayed here with a group of 12 and had a really nice time, we wish we could have stayed longer!
It's a beautiful, cosy house and had plenty of room for all of us. Enjoyed sitting out in the sun for lunch and the kitchen/dining/living rooms were perfect for entertaining and just hanging out with the whole group later in the evening.
Overall just a really positive experience, communicative host, no criticisms at all. Hope to stay here again next year!

From our 2 month old to 80 year old family members, Yvette's magnificent and historic homestead was a wonderful setting for us. Beginning with her very engaged and helpful welcome to her thoughtful provision of kitchen, bath and beach amenities, comfortable beds, welcoming dining and living areas, and the beauty and serenity of her yard and gardens, we felt so at home. She is a host who attends to details in caring for her home and guests. A deep bow to Yvette for everything!

This home was very clean. There is a short walk to the local McDonald's. About a 10 minute ride to Saybrook inn, Stop & Shop, the railroad station, the diner, and so much more. The yard was large and included two full-size picnic tables, as well as a fire pit with hot chairs around it, and supplied firewood, the bedrooms, each had an air conditioning unit in the window and we're fairly comfortable. There were plenty of towels, dishes, pots and pans, and serving pieces if you are having a large group of people gather there. There is a charming garden room off of the living room area that was just beautiful . Although the house was not centrally air-conditioned, there are window air conditioners in each of the bedrooms.
There were steep stairs going up to the second floor, ( this is an antique home after all) which would not have been suitable for people with a disability, however, a child gate was provided.
The bathrooms were spacious and clean and there was plenty of hot water.
A large screen TV in the Living Room and the Internet provided worked very well.
I would definitely choose to stay at this lovely property again in the future.

If you're looking for a great coastal New England weekend getaway, look no further. A group of four of us headed to Old Saybook over a gorgeous fall weekend. The Captain Nathaniel Clarke house is a cool historic house (and has a switchback stairway, too) on the equally historic Boston Post Road. Though it's a main road in town, we had no street noise. The house was spotless and had all the conveniences, including a very new washer/dryer pair. We took advantage of the firepit for our two cool fall evenings, and there was plenty of cordwood and kindling to keep it going. Along with the amenities in-house, there's a Starbucks, a good wine/liquor store, and very well-stocked natural foods market, all in walking distance. And whatever you do, DO NOT miss going to The Pursuit Of Pastry ( also, in walking distance offering sticky buns I'm still dreaming about) and if you love Italian, about a mile down Boston Post Road is Alforno--really good, reasonably priced, and absolutely packed on a Saturday night. We had a wonderful time together and this property helped make it so.

My family and I stayed in this historic, beautiful house for 5 days and it was paradise. The house is great- It has all of the New England charm, all the amenities you could need, and very comfortable. Minutes from the beach, restaurants, shops etc. The host was responsive (within minutes) and was extremely helpful/accommodating.
It really was the perfect place for us to enjoy our vacation. We are already planning to return as soon as we can. Thanks again for everything!!

I love historic properties, and this house is the quintessential New England farmhouse with wide plank wood floors and a very cozy feel. There are plenty of beds for a large group - 9 in total. The outside space is great for family gatherings. There are two large white picnic tables with umbrellas, a grill, and 8 Adirondack chairs around a fire pit. Wood is provided. There are also beach toys and chairs for the kids. Harvey's beach is right down the road, and the host provides parking passes. Go there at low tide for a unique beach experience. Hammonesset state park beach is also nearby. We really enjyed our stay and would stay again!

What a charming house with so much character! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house - we were 3 families with young children all of whole loved the spacious backyard! Yvette was so easy to work with and made herself readily available to us throughout our entire stay. The location was perfect - we loved brining our children to Harvey’s beach especially which was so close. The house was also close to a grocery store, shopping, and a variety of dining options. The house was clean, the beds were comfortable, and lots of space for the adults to gather after the children were asleep. Thank you for a great stay, we will be back!

Yvette was such a great host and really easy to communicate with!
The house was so charming and everything we could have hoped for. There were more than enough beds and the house was so deceiving it just kept going and going and going. Great places and spaces to hang around, relax and chat- whether it was inside or outside by the fire!
The location was perfect- close enough to the beach as well as close enough to the Water’s Edge where we were able to relax as well!
Everyone was raving and couldn’t stop talking about the history, beauty and charm of this house. A memorable stay for sure and something we hope to make a yearly tradition.
Thanks again, Yvette!
