Breakfast was excellent although the avocado on toast was disappointing (ready-made out of a tub I think rather than fresh avocado), and the fish and chips also very good. The staff couldn't have been more helpful (special mention for Stuart). The first floor room was comfortable with a view over the marshes, lovely Egyptian cotton sheets and towels, and we could adjust the heating and open the window which was great too. The shampoo, conditioner etc was available but not in a mass of single use plastic individual containers encouraging plastic waste - also good and much appreciated. It is also a dog-friendly place and although we didn't have a dog with us, it was good to feel that they were welcome. The bar had a good range of drinks although the advertised Negroni special cocktail was not available. Overall we had a very nice stay.
We had a happy stay but there were a few things, mainly that the 'pub' had lost its feel as a pub with rooms, more a hotel with a secondary function as a bar. It felt like the hotel aspect dominated and in the one bar, the tables were laid up for breakfast by 9pm so it felt as though there was nowhere to relax apart from in our room, no lounge and yet no bar we could sit in. The staff were great but it felt a lot of the time as though we were too aware of the functioning of the hotel rather than being guest with priority. I think the Ship is a bit too small to be a hotel. The reception desk is intrusive in the space, with a garish tablet screen facing the stairs and a cramped feel on entering along the passage and up and down the stairs, and some of the room occupied by staff on laptops or other hotel tasks. I appreciate that it is not a peak time of year but it felt, at times, a bit like when you go into supermarket late at night and the shelf-stackers and cleaners outnumber the shoppers so there are stackers everywhere. This isn't a criticism of the staff - I think Chestnut chain need to rethink their operations there a bit. We didn't get the same feel in the nearby Westleton Crown where we went to eat on the second night which had more space, though even there all the chairs were stacked on tables in the large bar by 8.30pm. I didn't like the breakfast avocado!

Room was delightful! Spotlessly clean bedroom and bathroom. Excellent tea & coffee facilities. Dinner was very good, as was the delicious breakfast - good quality (local) ingredients. Staff were super-friendly and helpful. Location was fantastic with the beach and lovely walks across the heath on the doorstep.
Got a couple of messages encouraging me to check in online. Did try a couple of times but the link didn’t work. Maybe stop this automated message if it was a ‘covid thing’ - or repair the link. No trouble at all checking in in person.

the staff, building, room
unfortunately it was for a special occasion and my partners meal had to be sent back as it had been warmed up and over cooked. it was such a shame as wanted stay to be perfect. everything else was great
4.1
Great bathroom and breakfast offering.
Staff could have been friendlier/more welcoming.
Room lacked privacy as looked in on from beer garden/patio and was a touch on small side.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Ship. It’s such a nice friendly pub. We really enjoyed our evening meal and cooked breakfast. The staff were very friendly and the pub is in a great location by the beach.
our “small room” was really very small! It could do with some more plug sockets as we struggled to charge our phone. We didn’t realise that there wasn’t a shower just a shower hose in the bathroom.

Fabulous location
Having booked a table for 6 for dinner we were squashed on a table for four and had to keep getting up to let someone pass. Not ideal whilst eating a meal, such a shame otherwise a lovely stay in a beautiful location

Room was lovely. Perfect for an overnight stay. Very clean and warm. Beautiful outside space, perfect for three couples meeting up and chatting. Lovely breakfast. Made use of outside bar and getting coffee outside was no trouble as Waitresses delivered to our table.
Six of us were a bit squashed on a table in the bar for dinner. Waiter told us he could only do one thing at once, asked for replacement cutlery and was given four sets when there were six of us so had to interrupt dinner to get more, which was happily and quickly done by the young lady behind the bar.

Room was perfect and very clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner was of a high standard.
Loved the location and overall our stay was exceptional.

Dinner was excellent. Breakfast was good. They had staffing issues, but managed well. The room was old but high standard. Shower hot and powerful enough.
Tea and coffee served at bar could have been hotter.

Great location for walking. Great breakfast and food in restaurant.
Room could do with a spruce up.

well positioned
sign on room door was broken - shower holder broken and despite reporting on day one it was not fixed.
for the money the room was small - no coffee machine or coffee in the room as advertised.

the bar area was so cold last night as the fire wasn’t being used which did affect our evening

Both Dinner and Breakfast were delicious - great menu for both. Portions could have been a little bigger for dinner. Excellent wine list too. Room was compact but had everything one needed and bed was very comfortable.
Some of the paint work was quite tired.

Breakfast was excellent. Coffee was a little grainy though. Food was generally good but limited choice at night.
Room was nice & clean although a very large cobweb in the bathroom.
Coffee pods but no machine in room so unable to make a coffee.
Sadly bed was uncomfortable, we kept rolling to the sides.

We liked the location, the bed was comfortable and had nice pillows and quilt.
Food in the pub was good
Overpriced for what you get in comparison to other places we stay and a bit noisy (extractor fan humming noise)

The Ship is perfectly located for the beautiful Suffolk coastline and lovely walks.
All the staff were delightful and helpful from arrival through to departure.
The pub was great for us to enjoy supper together after a busy day of exploring. Really good food and drink in a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Breakfast was very well presented, Conservatory was lovely. Kippers were scrumptious and partners full breakfast was good too. Room was very clean and bed extremely comfortable. Room nice and warm and radiators easy to adjust temperature.
Breakfast could have done with being included in the room price. Thought it was quite expensive compared to other places that we have stayed. Room allocated was not the one I booked so was disappointed that I didn't have view out across the marshes .Couldn't find anyone to enquire about it, and too tired when arrived to bother going back downstairs again a second time. Blackfriars was the room we were in at the top of the building. Shower was not really up to standard for the money paid for room, was coming away from fixings and would not really stay over you when showering because hose kept twisting round. No bath mat was provided either, which for safety reasons is not good. Room quite sparse , didn't really have that homely feel you get from a lot of places we have stayed.

Nice and clean rooms, great food and hospitality. Super nice location just next to the beautiful beach. A treat and a nice bed was also there for our doggy, that was so lovely. We all loved it.
Nothing for this time.
