Peaceful but could be improved

Beautiful views, nice setting

The breakfast table had toxic insect-repellent candles on it, and you could taste it in the food, so we had to buy breakfast in town anyway. Little standing fans would serve the same purpose. The room that we had was in the main building and you could hear everything, so it wasn’t very private. This would be acceptable if the price wasn’t so high.

If we come back this way, this place will be where we head for.

Wonderful room in the main house with a huge bathroom. Staff were friendly and cheerful and we were made to feel v welcome. Lovely grounds, great views. Nice pool.

Best Villa in Franschhoek

Our stay here was totally perfect 😍 The property is huge and beautiful, we were given an upgrade which we completely appreciated. We will be back here with more family members because they have to experience this.

Komfortabel und schön

Schönes großes Anwesen in sehr gepflegtem Garten etwas außerhalb von Franschhoek. Unser Zimmer war sehr geräumig, allerdings leider recht dunkel. Das Bett war sehr bequem, das Bad riesig, alles sehr gepflegt. Es gibt einen Kühlschrank, eine Mikrowelle und einen Wasserkocher, ausserdem Kaffee, Tee, Zucker und Plätzchen. Das Frühstück ist sehr gut, ein kleines Büffet mit viel Obst, Joghurt, Müsli, Käse und Schinken, außerdem Eier etc. nach Wunsch. Exzellenter Kaffee!

Das Timmer war recht dunkel und die weißen Einbauschränke passen nicht recht zum restlichen Mobiliar.

A great stay

The staff were amazing, breakfast super tasty, the location was excellent, the views of the mountains incredible and really nice grounds/pool. The room was spacious and had all the amenities you would need.

A minor criticism as on balance, the guesthouse is great. The decor is a little dated and could do with modernisation.

A quick breakaway to attend a wedding held in Franschhoek

Beautiful charming main building and dining area. Good breakfasts. Great views and great location

A must visit :)

Everything about this place was just beautiful. The room and bathroom were huge, stylish and very comfortable. Our room had a beautiful view over the mountains and although it was cold and rainy, we enjoyed it thoroughly. The breakfast was top notch and had a good variety of items. The staff were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to assist us. We decided to stay in both nights and made use of their lapa / braai facilities which was really nice and cozy. Unfortunately the weather didn't allow us to swim, but the pool was clean and well maintained. Overall, our stay was fantastic and we would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting the area. Very quiet area, but not too far from town and the wine farms. Thank you to the team for making this an extra special birthday weekend for my partner.

A property trading on days gone by...

Staff were lovely as was breakfast.

it's in desparate need of some maintenance. it's not 4star and therefore overpriced. I I would not do summer there as they give notice about mosquitoes and I was bitten even though it's too cold for them at this time of the season. Security very lax.

Ruhiges, schönes Anwesen inmitten der Weinregion.

Ein hübsches, ruhiges Anwesen für die Erkundung der Weinregion von Kapstadt. Das Hauptgebäude mit Frühstücksraum sind sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Unser Zimmer war sehr geräumig und hatte Fußboden Erwärmung! Tolles Frühstück.

Um die Einfahrt im dunklen zu finden wäre eine Beleuchtung an der Hauptstraße toll. Eine Steckdose und Heizung im Badezimmer wäre ein weiterer Verbesserungsvorschlag.

very peaceful, safe, huge luxurious place and the most fantastic breakfast ever.

absolutely fantastic breakfast with cozy fireplace and friendily staff. There was no-one at reception to meet us but it was a public holiday. very peaceful beautiful estate. not really recommended for young kids but fine with teenagers.

not seeing any staff until breakfast the next morning!

Spacious rooms on a beautiful property that would really shine during summer months.

The rooms are very spacious, and we appreciated that there were coffee and tea provided, along with biscuits, There's a TV and lounge area in the room, which was cozy, and there was plenty of cupboard space and a safe. The breakfast was good and the staff were accommodating and friendly.

It's located further out of town than we'd anticipated (our fault), and the room could have used a little maintenance/TLC (the light fixture above the bath was broken for example).

Val D’Or Estate was a rip off and the worst experience of my life.

The staff was nice and a saving grace to an otherwise terrible establishment.

The property is advertised as a 4 star property and yet the accommodation and experience is on par with a 2 star guest house. It is grossly expensive but absolutely sub par in every possible way. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

WE ENJOYED OUR STAY IN GENERAL AND WOULDNT MIND TO RETURN AGAIN.

BREAKFAST WAS FRESH, WHOLESOME AND VERY TASTY. OUR ROOM WAS LARGER THAN EXPECTED AND THE UNDERFLOOR HEATING WAS AN ADDED BONUS. IT MADE THE SPACE WARM AND WELCOMING. VERY FRIENDLY STAFF THAT TREATED US WELL.

THE DECOR IN THE ROOM SEEMED A LITTLE DATED, LIKE THE SHINY CURTAINS AND BED FRILL AS WELL AS THE WALL ART AND VERY OLD MICROWAVE. THE TAP WAS ALSO LOOSE FROM THE SINK IN THE BATHROOM WHICH IS EASY TO FIX UP WITH A LITTLE MARINE SILICON. THE DRIVEWAY TOWARDS THE ESTATE WAS ALSO EXTREMELY BUMPY AND FULL OF POTHOLES.

Road into the lodge is pretty bad. And not well signed from the road it's easy to miss in the dark.

If we had known it was so good we would have extended our stay.

The staff were superb and made us feel at home the moment we got there. Breakfasts were outstanding and set us up for the day.

The approach road to the house from the R45 was a job in progress; uneven in places so had to be very careful to avoid the potholes

The friendliness of the staff. The service at breakfast was fabulous.

The bathroom: taps, towel rail and shower shelf - all were loose. The plugs don’t seal off so water drains out of basins. Small maintenance needed!

Magical, frinedly, relaxing it felt like there was no other place in the world

The entire estate was magical. The setting was so relaxing. If I had known it was going to be such an amazing stay, I would have extended my stay but had to be back at work again. Will definitely come back

The staff were really friendly and accommodating

In short, I had higher expectations for the property considering the price. The building, while beautiful, needs some TLC. The mattresses weren't comfortable, and the water pressure in the bath was slow. Also, there were no non-dairy milk options, and the breakfast was oily.
