The place you can truly rest, Host most kind we've ever met, the house even more comfortable than pictures, 50 meters to local traditional restaurant as well as handmade gifts, beds, bedrooms, bathrooms comfortable and clean, kitchen equiped as needed, all the more that you can afford divine greek cuisine at decent price, you dont have to cook, try local specialities. We highly recommend:) Magda, Luki, Borys from Wrocław PL.

Mr. Manolis was very hospitable, he made available to us a larger apartment than we booked. Every now and then he made sure we had everything we needed. Vafes is a very good base to explore the entire western part of the island (provided you have a rental car). There are plenty of shops and restaurants in nearby Vrises. Vafes itself is a very quiet village where you can relax after sightseeing.
Not enough cats ;)

If I may critisize something there are two minor points only: it would be good to have one or two additional lights in the living room to support the one light hanging down the high ceiling and to achieve a bit more privacy, e.g. for reading. The small bathrooms have already been mentioned on other reviews. For us, as we are small, it was no problem. For big people it might be a bit tight though.
The location definitly was a good choice. Good to relax, good to just sit down on one of the terrasses and listen to nature, good to have our meals under a shady tree, read something or talk. An oasis. For exercises there is a nice but short walk to a little cave or longer ones to surounding little villages. But also the beaches of Kalives or Almyra are within short reach. If you need to stock up your supplies Vrisses is only 3 km away and if you don't want to drive two little taverns offer local dishes during season time. You don't feel like being in the middle of nowhere. We also liked the old house with its stonewalls and wood beams supporting the ceiling that provides a good athmosphere. And not to forget the hosts who welcommed us warmly with some cake, a raki and some olive oil and the most with a warm smile. We enjoyed the two days we have spend here very much.

Oh I was just mesmerized by the beauty of the village and the house.
I have only seen such a romantic and beautiful place in a painting or perhaps in a romantic movie😍
And the hospitality was awesome. They had some fresh and homemade cake and biscuits with Raki for me in the room😀
Everything was just superb.

Lovely small village with historic background. Traditional house with heavy stone walls, fireplace and all necessary improvements. Great balcony, great terrace. Loved the place.
Village is quite far from main cities. It MAY be a problem for some, certainly was not for us.

We arrived late in the evening and Manolis waited for us, this was a very nice welcome. On arrival in the stone house we were greeted with fresh cake, bread and a bottle of Manolis' own Raki, which really does taste exquisite. The next morning we had the joy of trying his wife's tiganites for breakfast and the best coffee in a long time. Manolis told us about the caves and so after breakfast we put our walking boots on and went off to the caves. On returning we had a wonderful long talk with Manolis about the harrowing history of Vafes and the heroism of the people. With gifts of extremely tasty grapes and kaki fruit we sadly left our new found friend and yet another mystical place in Crete that was easy to fall in love with. Thank you.

The stone houses are beautiful and Manolis the host is exceptional! He is kind and thoughtful and, as we learned over a glass of wine at the local taverna, he has interesting stories to tell.
It's a beautiful experience to sit in the balcony and watch the sunrise over the mountains. The location is incredibly peaceful.
The shower was a bit small but we expected this.
