About this villa rental
The villa spreads into 3 independent non- communicating apartments, each one with an independent entrance. The apartments, although divided, are exclusively reserved for the same group of friends/family: NO-SHARING with other guests.
The villa adjoins a different property, from which it is completely separated by hedges or walls to ensure the privacy of our guests.
On arrival at Villa Salivolpe, one instantly breathes the fresh green air of the Tuscan countryside and is overwhelmed by the stunning 360° views offered by the location.
Being just 20 miles from the city of Florence and 30 miles from Siena, the villa is ideally situated to experience Tuscany at its very best!
The historic district of Florence starts approximately 15 miles away, about a 20-minute drive by car. Florence Airport is about 20 miles away. You may reach the nearest village on foot but a car is strongly recommended for moving around at the discovery of the many little villages, of local producers or of the main art cities.
From the top of the hill, where the house nests, the views are stunning, and watching the sunrise or the sunset over the rolling hills is an amazing experience. Children can enjoy running freely in the fields, and playing outside where there is plenty of space to roam.
Surrounded by olive groves, the beautifully kept natural private lawn/garden, as well as the panoramic paved and covered terrace for enjoying your dinners al fresco, or simply reading a book, offer a peaceful and quiet atmosphere at all hours.
Just a few steps ahead you enter the villa which is split into three fully-serviced apartments, (called Nespolo - Melograno - Salice) spread over three floors, each one with independent entrance, providing maximum privacy and comfort for large groups, when needed, but also offering common spaces where you can live, eat or simply rest altogether.
The house is adjacent to another property, but hedges and walls along the border eliminate any contact with the neighbors.
Entering the main door of the largest apartment (Nespolo), one is welcomed into an open space with a fully-equipped cozy kitchen corner; a wide dining area with a beautiful long table seating up to 16 people; and a living area with couches, a coffee table, and television.
All the apartments have a fully equipped kitchen corner and a living area.
8 bedrooms are double:
4 king-size bedrooms, yet beds can be separated
2 potential king-size bedrooms, but with single sheets
2 twin bedrooms
A 9th small twin bedroom is available(apt.Nespolo), but it needs to share a bathroom with the next room.
All rooms have mosquito nets, shutters, and stunning views!
The villa borders with a neighbour villa but it is totally fenced with a thick edge to guarantee privacy.
Open from May to September (dates to be defined each year depending on the weather), the private swimming pool (5x10 meters) with salty water is also in a panoramic position. One can walk around the olive groves, or enjoy sunbathing on our outdoor furniture (parasols and sun-beds)
It is the ideal place to relax and appreciate the beautiful, old, olive fields surrounding the house.
There is an infinite variety and availability of local food products that you can buy directly from the producers in the area. Simply turn down any road in the countryside and keep an eye out for the small signs put up to attract customer interest.
Less than one hour away from all the “must-see” art cities of Florence, Siena, and Lucca, the area offers many gems to visit. Just take the back roads to discover them and you will be left with memories as lasting and intense as those to be found in the mandatory sites.
Don't expect many tourist sights around the corner, just walk and wander, go to the nearby vineyard for a wine-tasting, or visit the sheep farm nearby where excellent cheese is made from the local milk
Apart from once belonging to the Strozzi family, little is known of this property. Perhaps a small cloister dating back to the XII century, while other portions were added later. We bought it in 1998 and after restructuring and renovating it, we have always treated it as our dream home for weekends and holidays, as we live and work in Milan.
The house is full of charm and is very near to all amenities, as well as many good restaurants, and, of course, shops near San Casciano!!
We have a couple of bicycles in our storeroom; get on them and explore the area!
There is also a wood oven where you could bake bread, cook pizzas, or simply cook anything you like. Everything will have a better taste cooked in there. An area with an old stone table, just outside the Nespolo apartment, looking over the swimming pool, allows freedom without worrying about dirt in the house.
Besides many other activities, one can play tennis in Ponterotto, where there is also a beautiful walk along the river and a Trattoria to stop by for a snack or lunch; or go horseback riding in Santa Cristina; or book a tour in a hot air balloon in Montagnana.
Banks, post offices, pharmacies, and a hospital are all less than 15 min drive away, either in San Casciano, Tavarnelle or Montespertoli.
The absolute quietness, the land, and the light of this place will make your stay a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We really hope your holiday will meet, and possibly exceed your expectations.
THE VILLA IS NOT FULLY ACCESSIBLE FOR WHEELCHAIRS, IT IS AN OLD VILLA AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS IN THAT SENSE.
-Before arrival, you will be asked for copies of your ids for registration to the local authorities.

The property was nice. Set up was good for our family. Pool was great. Dining room table and living room was great for large families. You really need a car to stay here but within an hours drive of Florence, Florence train station, Sienna, and San Gimingnano and other Tuscany areas. COOP grocery store is about a 15 minute drive. Not owners fault it was so hot this summer but only air conditioning in 1 room.

Beautiful property with more than enough space for a large family. Owners ensured to check in and make everything as comfortable as possible.
Great place to relax and unwind.

Although dated, with small kitchen in main apartment, Villa Salivolpe accommodated ten older adults with plenty of private room and a great common dining table where our chefs served wonderful meals. (Slippery-shower stalls could use mats. ) “Rustico” is what one of our group called the Villa. Also given its peaceful isolation, having a car is highly advised!

Exceptional hospitality in Tuscan countryside and super relaxing stay in a family home
We just completed a super relaxing and pleasant stay in Santa Cristina. Thank you Piero for sharing your home with us. Your generous advice on which places to visit, where to have dinner on the night we decided to go out, where to buy the best Fiorentina and groceries…. Thank you for all the insider tips! We took advantage of the guides we found in the house. It’s clearly a family that appreciates culture. We loved the informal, rustic yet practical setting. Beds are nice and firm, bathrooms comfortable and there is a washing machine. Piero made this a real vacation for our group. The home has a marvelous genuine lived-in feel yet is spotlessly clean, organized well and is a pleasure to stay in. As a visitor you can really feel the family’s passion for their land, the olive oil that they make themselves, the 360 degree views over this exceptional area. This is an ideal vacation home for a group of friends because of the ample multiple indoor and outdoor spaces that are both comfortable and functional. We used the big shaded outdoor stone table every day and the pool was a lifesaver in this hot weather! Our group agreed that this pool has one of the most amazing views over the Tuscan hills and olive groves that we have ever seen on many trips to Tuscany.
I’m happy to say that we did not experience the cigarette smell that a previous visitor noticed. I am pretty sensitive to tobacco smells so this was important to me.
Thank you Piero for answering promptly our various queries and giving us advice on what to visit in Florence. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Extended family - 3 generations
It was great to have all the space for extended family - and most bedrooms with their own bathroom. We ate many meals at the large table in the back yard, and the pool was great to come home to at the end of the day. Even when it was hot, keeping the windows closed during the day was enough to keep the place cool.
A few minor issues - the furniture on the front patio was not in great condition, sometimes the water pump was loud at night upstairs, the road leading to the villa had some large ruts that our small rental car bottomed out on.

Beautiful setting but the house was underwhelming
We struggled with this review because we know how important they are to a business. Our goal is to provide an accurate review of the property to help future guests. There were minor discomforts that we feel can be part of the European charm, such as inoperable door locks, lack of clear direction for the checkout process, or having a gardener on the property early in the morning and late into the evening.
Pros: The setting is stunning. The size of the home is also very accommodating, especially for a multi-family group. The ability to stay on the same site but in separate apartments was the main reason we booked this home for a getaway with our adult children. Communication with Angela, the property manager, was excellent (with the exception of checking out).
Cons: Advertised as a smoke-free house (with smoking only permitted outside). Upon our arrival, the stale cigarette smell was extremely pervasive. We immediately had to open all of the windows and doors in an attempt to “air out” the home and still my wife had a migraine that lasted all week from this. This put a tremendous damper on the trip because we were unable to spend anytime together indoors due to the odor. Another point of concern was the tremendous amount of clutter strewn throughout the space. Whenever we rent a home, whether domestically or abroad, the space is a clean slate so to speak. This home gave the appearance that we were unexpected guests that happened to call at the last minute for a place to stay. There were opened wine bottles on the counter, used masks on the radiator, empty boxes left in bags on the floor, drawers and closets filled with random items, etc. As such, we were never able to truly relax because we felt like we were guests at a Great Aunt’s home.
Overall, the home was relatively clean with the exception of the master bath tub (soap & hair), cobwebs on light fixtures, and an extremely dusty vent in the laundry (see photos). Again, I struggle with this review. I don’t want to come across as a snobby American with high expectations that were not met at a Tuscan home. There are basic expectations that come with renting a home through Vrbo. The house was intended to be a home base for the week: cooking dinner together most evenings and relaxing in the living room afterwards. But instead, due to the state of the house, we ate at restaurants and stayed away from the home until bedtime, thus changing the tenor of our trip entirely. This was disappointing.

Wonderful hillside views of Tuscany at a classic villa
We booked this villa complex for a three week period in June. Friends came in for the first half and family for the second. It worked out great. The bedrooms were large and the bathrooms were too. We were expecting smaller sizes since there were so many of each available, but they were fine--some were even large.
Piero, the owner, provided an 8 page primer on every aspect of the villa with detailed instructions on where everything important in the place as well as interesting things in the neighborhood.
Trust your Google Maps app to get you there. (The Italian street system is tricky.) The villa has a front and rear pergolas with stunning/serene/beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside. Getting to Florence, Sienna, Volterra, and all the other sights was not hard (Google Maps!)
If you have several couples or family groups with you, the villa is great. The three levels have separate entrances if privacy is important.
The appliances worked, the housekeeping was excellent, and any special need was promptly met. We will never forget the pleasant time we spent there.

Beautiful Villa
Really wonderful place for a relaxing week. The view from the hill the Villa sits a top is exceptional, even for Tuscany! Easy drive to Florence or Sienna. All the local restaurants are fantastic. Air conditioning and a dip in the pool if it gets too hot! Would definitely recommend!

Family holiday
The location and the property itself was better than we could imagine. We are a family from Finland with 12 adults and 5 children, the house was perfect for spending time together and also for privacy. Well equipped, everything working fine and smoothly.

Rest, Culure and Landscape
The view all around the house in really heartbreaking, in fact even better than we could imagine from the pictures on the web. I particularly liked sitting on the backyard, with the view on San Casciano and the "Le Corti" Castle.
Furniture and all internal arrangements are very cozy: you easily perceive that the owners also live the house as the guests do.
I'm an historian, so we picked this place because it seemed strategically placed to visit many interesting places in less than 1 hour drive, but we eventually ended up spending half of the time just there, to enjoy the pool and the yard.
The only (minor) shortfall I noticed is that the path from the parking lot to the entrance is pretty dark at night, you might consider adding some garden light to facilitate those who like coming back late...
