True shabby chic, very tastefully done.

The Coq D'Or is very conveniently central. A pleasant old (1908) building with good sized rooms and restaurant downstairs. No parking available other than in the street - OK out of season, likely to be challenging in summer. The room, bed, bathroom were all good and the staff helpful and pleasant. Jonzac itself didn't have much to offer in mid December, with many places closed, such that the hotel restaurant seemed to be the only available choice for dinner.
I had the day's 'menu' in the restaurant, and all the courses were tasty and well presented. However, a couple of hours later I suffered from acute symptoms of food poisoning. Pretty much recovered by the morning, after an interrupted night, but very much took the edge off my stay at the Coq D'Or. Ate a minimal breakfast - expensive for what was offered, nothing cooked was available.

Although the place was ‘closed’ due to it being a Monday (they also have a very popular restaurant operating everyday except Mondays) the owners very kindly accepted our booking and we had to call once we arrived, to be let in. The room was beautiful, spacious and the bathroom a good size too. The building is old and elegant. A substantial continental breakfast was served in the bar in the morning. We stayed in Jonzac solely because we were visiting a wonderful cognac estate 8 minutes away. We had also heard about the restaurant at Hostellerie du Coq d’Or which was sadly closed during our stay.
We enjoyed our stay but basically, no fault of the owners, there is not much to do or see right in Jonzac. It’s a good stopover for visiting cognac estates and trying a couple of the restaurants.

Lovely old hotel and restaurant. We have stayed before and were not disappointed. Convenient overnight stop driving to the south.
The hotel can be a bit difficult to find when driving, the old centre of Jonzac is complicated but it's worth the effort.

A well appointed hotel in a superb position next to the chateau in the centre of town. The fixed price €30 dinner was good with friendly service from the hotel owner. We stopped off here on our way north from Nice to Roscoff and could not have been more delighted with the hotel.
The creme brûlée was disappointing.

This hotel is fantastic place for a stopover (close to both A10 and N10) or visits to the area of Jonzac. Situated in an old building in the middle of Jonzac it has the charms of an old hotel, but with all the modern day facilities (room seemed to be renovated/redecorated not too long ago). Very clean and comfortable room, friendly staff and great food (both dinner and breakfast).

Appreciated them catering to my lack of French

The attention from the arrival until the departure in a really tough times was agonic excellent. The hotel was practically for us. The owner, top class, gave us permission to taste one of his wine bottles (paying of course 😊).
Totally recommendable. We will try to come back.

Lovely old house with a view of the magnificent Chateau. Very close to a park, so excellent dog walking. Good restaurant and bar. Quiet, clean and dog friendly.
WiFi only available in the bar.
