When I was preparing our trip to Valga this hotel was my choice right away. Located in the historical building in the quiet area just across the park the hotel is themed as hunter's manor. We had a room on the second floor. It was spacious enough for comfortable accommodation. The bathroom was clean and nice.
We were staying for just one night and requested breakfast for the next morning. I would like to express my gratitude to the staff for absolutely great service.
Also my special thanks go to the hotel restaurant where we had dinner on the day of arrival. The meal was delicious!
We highly recommend this place to everyone who visits Valga and will be happy to come back again!

Bedroom, breakfast
I have travelled all around the world, and I have never met such rude and unhelpful people. My wife's family had escaped Ukraine via Russia into Estonia. It was late in the day so they sort refuge in a Hotel. I had sent money to them via Western Union to collect Euros at a Post Office. They did not have International Passport but ID cards. They refused. Back to the Hotel to explain the situation. They basically said no money no hotel, these are refugees and were showed no kindness. I offered to pay via my Credit Card, but they wanted the card to be present in Estonia. Eventually we got them to accept US Dollars. It was a dreadful exercise in the poorest of customer service and lack of trust. This is an EU country behaving like a Soviet country of old. I will post this elsewhere to warn refugees of the lack of compassion.

Beautiful property (a former schoolhouse) opposite a lovely park on the edge of town. Both the train station and downtown are a 15 minute walk away. The hotel interior is lavishly decorated with exotic stuffed animal heads. The restaurant offers a plentiful breakfast and tasty lunches and dinners.
Be sure to book early as the hotel may fill up during weekends, especially during the summer.

Hotel Metsis should be one of the best hotels in Valga. To be honest, Valga is very small place, so it is not hard to acquire that title. However, hotel itself is nice from the outside and inside you see many many animals (trophies, skins etc) which either looks good or not, depending on your beliefs. Now I didn`t had time to try breakfast, but I did have dinner in the restaurant. Food was OK, nothing exceptional, nothing bad. However wild pork stake with chanterelle sauce was quite good, but salmon for starters was just OK.
In the room (I had room with Sauna) everything was tidy, sauna was spacious.
BUT there were no fridge in the room and there should have been more sockets for your electrical items.

The atmosphere is like a classic hotel: one feels at home among unique things and at a pleasant terrace. Ideal place to recover from a long journey!
