Located on the National Trust's Watersmeet Estate, Rockford Lodge can be reached via a footbridge, tranquilly situated in a forest, secluded from traffic. The stunning North Devon coastline is close, with Lynton and Lynmouth merely four miles away. A variety of river, moorland, and coastal trails are accessible right from the garden gate, offering a scenic treat for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. Opportunities for salmon and trout fishing on the East Lyn are available, along with excellent nearby horseback riding options.

The ground floor offers generous living space, with a sitting room that boasts an open fire for the colder months and a large dining/TV room. The farmhouse-style kitchen is equipped with a breakfast table and is kept warm by the AGA. Additionally, there's a breathtaking River Room with views of the East Lyn River, an ideal spot for sipping wine. Outdoors, the sizable garden is dog-proof, and amenities such as tables, chairs, and a barbecue are provided. Lucy was so helpful in answering questions and supporting us. It is a lovely spot unique and connected to the history of the area. Walks from our front door. Good pub across the river and comfy beds as we fell asleep to the sound of the river . We will be back!

The cottage is lovely, full of character and in a wonderful location right by the river. It’s extremely peaceful and there are great walks from the door step, our dog loved it!
The hosts were extremely responsive and helpful too.
We would definitely like to return here.

A very nice area with lovely walks along the river
The cottage had everything we needed.
The only issue was the property was not as clean as we would have expected.
However we had a relaxing break.

We had just three nights at Rockford Lodge, but it was a beautiful, peaceful place in which to escape from everything. I have never had the opportunity to stay anywhere so close to a river, but by the end we were wishing we could take a little part of the East Lyn home with us. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed, including in the kitchen (and it was great to be able to cook with an Aga that was identical to one we used to have when I was young :) ). Walks from the property were remarkably beautiful. Wifi was fast and reliable. Great to have so many books and games in the cottage - could easily have stayed for a few weeks just sitting and reading! Parking was tight on the first try but was easy once I'd worked out where to position the car...and the car park in Brendon just up the road was very useful to be able to turn around and head in the opposite direction. The trips to unload and reload the car took some effort but the road was quiet and it was good exercise :) The back of the cottage is quite dark as it is built into the hill, but this turned out to be part of the cozy attraction of the place, and there was plenty of light to the front. Very well-looked-after garden. Great location to explore the North Devon and Somerset coasts, and wider Exmoor just to the south. Beautiful and memorable. Thank you!

We had a fabulous time at the Lodge! This house is a gem... like walking into the country place you wish your family had had when you were growing up! Our family (myself, my husband, 2 teenagers and a small dog) had such a magical stay for one week of the Easter break. We love how so many of the details and history of the lodge have been preserved, and we felt very at home right away. Walking over the footbridge to the property, waking up and walking out straight onto the river bank, going to sleep with the lovely warm blankets listening to the river... we all felt so comfortable and at home. Being able to walk straight out to the trail (definitely walk to Watersmeet!) and nip across the river for a beverage at the lovely Rockford Inn was exactly what we needed, and the coast and all it has to offer is just a short drive away. We can't wait to come back in the summer so we can take a dip in the river and hit the water at some of the local beaches. Thank you, Lucy, for a lovely stay!

Not stayed for a while but we’re so glad nothing had changed. Been visiting since 2004 and cannot fault the Cottage, always had an amazing time with family and friends who have all loved it
The Rockford Inn has been up and down over the years but at present it’s the best it has ever been, great food and service. Can’t wait to come back
Thanks Lucy and family x

The lodge was well equipped and in a beautiful, quiet location. The car parking arrangement was not ideal but understandable given the location and certainly not a deal breaker. We enjoyed our stay and certainly had everything we needed for a comfortable week in the lodge.

Set in a valley the property was peaceful while not seeming completely isolated. Wonderful walk along the riverbank in both directions. Short drive from Lynton and the breah-taking clifftop walk to Valley of Rocks.
Highlight was watching the cattle drive across the ford which passed within feet of the riverview room. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

This is such a lovely place. We felt like we were in a fairy tale, nestled in the woods and listening to the stream running by. The host was responsive to our messages and helpful. I hope we get to go back--but for longer the next time. (The stairs up to the bedrooms and bathroom were fine for us but I could see how they might be too narrow and steep for some with less mobility.) Overall, it was a great holiday and perfect location.

Very comfortable lodge with all we needed
No negatives from us apart from steepness of stairs

Beautiful spot on the river with extensive walks all around. Cottage had everything you need. The beds and linen were sumptuous. Stairs a bit scary!

Family break
We had a fabulous time at this property, it was in a lovely setting. The cottage was quaint and homely.

The lodge and the setting are lovely, there is everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Fishing rods, walking equipment, toys, games, books, washing machine, iron, I could go on. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were spacious.
There is a secure garden which was great as we took our dog. The river is 10 steps away from the gate which was perfect for cooling off and fishing.
The downside was the hills. We knew we could not park at the lodge, the car park is about 200 yards away but up a very steep hill. My husband has a Lung and heart condition and we ended up leaving early because he physically could not carry on with the terrain.
All the pubs in the local area were closed and the nearest shop was a good 15 minute drive along narrow, steep roads. Whilst we enjoyed our time there, we would not book again due to the severity of the hills and no phone signal at all.

Lovely period cottage in the small village of Rockford. Perfect location for walks either along the river or across Exmoor. Expect hills and narrow steep roads - there really is no escaping them 😀

The most gorgeous cottage - so warm and cosy and comfortable. Really spacious, easy to find with the instructions. So relaxing listening to the sounds of the river while going to sleep. We had a fabulous couple of days at Rockford Lodge celebrating my daughters 22nd birthday. The cottage is perfect for getting away from it all. It is right on the Coleridge Way so walks for the dog are literally on the doorstep. Lovely cosy cottage with plenty of space to spread out. Will definitely be returning.

Perfect and Timeless
This is a place where time has stood still. A homely cottage by a river reached by a footbridge across which you wheelbarrow your belongings and food. Walks from the door into woods and adventure. We were there in the Autumn and although rain and darkness greeted us on arrival and heightened the adventure of getting to the front door, the morning showed us what a wonderful destination we had come to. The pub opposite was most welcoming for our arrival dinner - the rest of the time we walked, talked and enjoyed all that was on offer. A special place. Waterfalls, water, woods and wildlife - heaven.

Lovely relaxing stay with good food, good walks and much laughter.
The property is lovely, really cosy and comfortable. It’s very well equipped and I really enjoyed using the aga! We had a great family time here, hot water was plentiful, the WiFi was good and there were plenty of board games to keep us amused. All in all, a lovely place to stay.

We have had a great stay at this beautiful, very cosy and well laid out cottage. It has everything you need to enjoy your stay in this magic part of the world. Owner very responsive and ensures everything is in good condition. Ideal cottage for family with kids, who can play by the river and go on adventures in the woods. Very friendly pub on other side of river if you don't want to cook. We would love to come back. Thank you!
