Excessive charge for evening meal when no menu was given nor any confirmation of the cost - €100 per head. We were only told one menu was available that night, but nothing further. This was not a fair reflection of the quality of the meal nor the basic hotel restaurant setting. We felt totally ripped off and taken advantage of. Hotel was in darkness when we arrived, and we thought it was closed. Only by trying a side door did we realise the hotel was open. No check-in done, just given a key by the bar staff. It was all very odd and we couldn't wait to leave in the morning (we left at 7.30am).

What a revelation - a really nice surprise.

We absolutely loved this place - what a find. It exceeded our expectations majorly. We were after a place to sleep on our way south (we hate that coast road that heads south after Valencia so we always cut across country at this point) and this looked interesting. I can't really say that the location was superb because it is on a main road, BUT you must not let that put you off. The rooms have been recently re-done, they are wood-panelled and furnished with antiques, and the bathrooms are beautifully clean. The staff are super friendly, the owner is charming and couldn't have been more kind and helpful, and the food - well, that was a revelation. We were expecting normal, good but simple country food. But the food we had here was really good - yes, it was local, with all local ingredients (this is still not that common in Spain), but all the better for that. The partridge salad is full of flavour and the venison in a Tempranillo reduction was superb. The owner is a wine buff and introduced us to some delicious local wines, telling us their stories and giving us copious tasting notes. And although it wasn't our cheapest night's stay we really had fantastic value for money, and in such an unlikely place! Do go, you won't regret it.

There was nothing that could have been better.
