Large room and friendly staff.
The kitchen noise woke up my girlfriend very early in the morning (before 7am)

The location a few blocks from stores, restaurants, Parque Madre, the Tomebamba River, and the bridge to Centro Historico was great! The bed was very comfortable with great pillows and bedding. My room only had a small high window so not a lot of natural light but good lighting in the room. The Internet worked well. The bathroom had a good hot shower. The free coffee, tea, and water in the lobby were appreciated. I had requested a fan (I find it helps to muffle noises in these historic properties) and the staff had one available for me. Excellent service from all hotel personnel I interacted with. The breakfast was above and beyond expectations - the small menu provided several choices. It was the best I have had in Ecuador so far! The lobby area was furnished well with sofas and chairs.
A couple of downsides - not enough visible plugs for those of us traveling with multiple devices (I used bathroom plugs) and no real working desk area. Lack of natural light. No minifridge for snacks and leftovers. A little pricey.

A lovely, secure place within walking distance of the Historic Center. The staff was wonderful!
Nothing. It was great!

They call themselves a hostel, however this is a luxury hotel. The common areas are impressive with spiral marble staircase, a comfortable executive style sitting room whereby guests could have use of a computer, as well as a fully stocked kitchen for those who would like to cook. The room was lovely with a comfortable bed and private bathroom.
I was provided with a room on the third floor which meant that the window was five feet above my head, at the peak of the ceiling. It provided only light and sounds from the traffic on the street below.

Everything was great, the staff was friendly, helpful and really welcoming.
Delicious breakfast.

Villa Emilia Hostal is more like a small boutique hotel than the usual hostel. It has private bathrooms, large clean rooms, and has parking spaces on its premises. Breakfast was included and was excellent. The location was centric and close to many stores. I think that there is also a shopping center close by (not sure, but definitely a Supermaxi a few blocks away).
Everything was good.

Delicious breakfast. Great location
Nothing.

The staff was very friendly and breakfast was also good. Bread with jam, egg and fruits with yogurt.
We had a big room with a nice big bathroom!
The whirlpool in our room didn't work. But the rest was perfect for us.
4.7
Location was good as it's close to a small mall, a nice park and downtown Cuenca (across the river).
Parking was secure, but a pain to use. It required the assistance of someone working there to open the gate, direct traffic and help car pull out and the opposite in reverse when parking there. There was a long staircase to get to the room which was difficult to manage with a lot of baggage. Staff seemed overworked and as a result not friendly.
4.7
Excellent location, room size, and friendly and accommodating staff.
Breakfast could have had more variety. That said, they fried two eggs instead of the standard ham omelette. Also, was having issues with hot water as you have to wait several minutes until it is hot enough to take a shower.

This hotel seems to be a totally new renovation of an older building. Everything inside is new and extremely clean. The staff is incredibly helpful! We had poor internet in our room and told the front desk. We went out for a walk and upon return, the owner had installed a new and stronger router on our floor that completely fixed the problem! Amazing! The owner also speaks good English. The bed is larger than most (Queen?), comfortable, and has nice quality bedding. Rooms have quiet, individual mini-split heat and AC units. Shower has plenty of hot water. Location is two blocks inland from the north end of the Malacon 2000 near the gondola. Reasonable rates include a basic egg breakfast. The street is quieter than the main one along the Malacon. Some rooms do not have external windows, but would be quiet. Truly a great value in this rather expensive city!
If I were to be picky, a second bedside table, bedside reading lights, and a light over the bathroom mirror for shaving would be nice, but those things were certainly not a problem.

Friendly and welcoming. good location and value for money
some street noise, but quieter than the old town

The breakfast in the morning was great!
We wish there were more young people

This was a great value. Large room with plenty of space to spread out. It is only a short walk to the old town.

Very friendly and helpful people, room is large and clean, yummy breakfast. If you go to Cuenca I really recommend to go there!

Spacious room, friendly and professional staff, good breakfast.
Secure parking, good location for access to the center.

Breakfast very good, Wi-Fi worked, staff helpful, room spacious, beds comfortable, car parking space provided. It's a short walk to downtown.
Nothing to complain about.

Fabulous hotel! Very friendly staff, great breakfast, beautiful (and clean!) rooms, and I appreciated the locked parking area as well. Would definitely recommend.
It's not the most central location in the city but this isn't necessarily a bad thing because it was quiet and safe :).

We loved this place. It's a nice, mostly quiet location about a 10 minute walk across the river to the busier, noisier Centro Historico. Very clean and spacious rooms. The water was super hot for your shower. The parking was secure as advertised. The staff were all amazing. The gentleman who stayed the night and also arranged your breakfast was super attentive to anything you need.
Not much to say here. Maybe the pillow could have been softer. I don't know.

The staff are wonderful and very helpful. The rooms are large and very clean. The location is close to a wonderful park and easy to get to. We will be back.

This is absolutely the best hostal I have ever stayed at. It was more of a boutique hotel than a hostal. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, the customer service was outstanding and the free breakfast was excellent.
There was nothing I didn't like

Location, price and facility. What’s not to like.
In the 6 years we have been staying here, the facilities need a bit of maintenance here and there.
