Lovely breakfast. A very helpful host.

This adorable bed and breakfast is perfectly located near the Palais du Papes and is steps away from a parking deck, making it easy for us to zip in and out of Avignon for day trips around Provence. Alain is a charming host. His recommendations on what to see and do in Provence reshaped our itinerary in the best ways. Breakfast every morning in the walled garden was delicious with fresh breads, eggs, coffee, tea, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, jams and more. Our room was spacious, quiet and comfortable. Avignon is an ideal base for discovering Provence - bigger, more lively and exciting than Arles - and we would certainly stay at Face at Palais again.

This was such a wonderful place to stay. The best breakfasts! In such a perfect spot, easy to walk to everything I wanted to see, and also to the Central Train Station. I stayed for 4 nights and it was a perfect choice for me, traveling alone. The private Garden is beautiful and peaceful, the furnishings and decoration are so artistic, comfortable, and tasteful. And best of all, Alain, the host, is delightful and kind and so helpful.
I wish I could have stayed a few more days.

Our host Alain was charming and most considerate. We enjoyed a superb breakfast before stepping out to explore Avignon; we didn’t have far to go as the Palais des Papes is directly opposite! Our well appointed room was very spacious and incredibly quiet. We would definitely recommend Face au Palais to anyone looking for a calm and peaceful sanctuary in the centre of Avignon.
Having to leave, unfortunately we could only stay for two nights.

Location was fabulous....in the heart of the city center next to the palace, plus an oasis garden inside to escape and relax . Alain, our host, was great...friendly, helpful, and served a plentiful, delicious breakfast. Made excellent restaurant recommendations. Thanks, Alain!! Though the room was on the small side, it served us well....comfortable bed, great shower pressure, and clean. Everything oozed old world charm. Highly recommend.
Not really anything we didn't like...very happy with our stayed However. ...maybe a word to those who like or need more room to move around...the room is tight, especially to get to the bathroom...narrow walk area between bed and wall to door..

Alain is an impeccable host with amazing hospitality. His inn is incredibly beautiful- the rooms, the furnishings, the antiques, and the private walled-in garden - all of it is superb as is the wonderful breakfast Alain puts together for his guests - all of it fresh and of the finest ingredients. We loved that upon check-in, he offered us a glass of wine in the gardens, staying to chat and get to know us a little. The location of this inn, right on the Palais square is charming and can’t be beat and the restaurant next door - “M,” was one of our best meals on this month-long trip through Europe. If you have a car, as we did, parking is easy. The public garage is right beneath the square and Alain’s inn is just a few feet from the pedestrian exit of the garage. What a gem of a place. Thank you, Alain!

This “Chambre d’hôte” is a hidden (literally) gem right in the middle of all the action. It’s a bit like going through a passageway into a different world. Peace, tranquility and an amazing ambiance of calmness whilst just metres away the masses congregate to get the best photo of the Palais Des Papes or the best seat in the many restaurants close by.
The apartment itself is amazing with the largest bedroom you’ll probably find in Avignon. So after a great nights sleep you are fully rested for the challenge of eating the enormous breakfast provided.
A wonderful experience and a real treat!

Wonderful bed and breakfast literally across from the Palace. What I liked: Excellent location, homey & charming, confortable bed, accommodating host, quiet yet right next to palace of the popes and restaurants. The first morning I was offered a large selection of teas and I sifted through to find an herbal, non-caffeinated tea. The next day he had 2 boxes of the type of tea I selected! The Host will chat if you like but leaves you to eat breakfast and relax. The restaurant right next door - le moutadier - was one of the best meals I had in France.

We loved everything! Alan is the ultimate host. He is very attentive and charming. The B&B is comfortable and the courtyard is a garden retreat. We had the best breakfast we have ever had with fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh croissants, homemade jams, eggs yogurt and more. The room was comfortable, quiet and secure. This is the best location in the city. We wish we could have stayed more than two nights.

This felt like a home from home. The owner was very welcoming and friendly - he also provided good recommendations of things to do and places to eat.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we will definitely look to book here on our next visit to Avignon.

Staying in this place was an extremely nice experience! The location is awesome, really directly opposite the pope's palace. And while just a couple of meters away hordes of tourists are taking pictures, it is extremely quiet! Going through the small door really feels like entering a different world. The courtyard where the breakfast is served is very quiet and the trees keep it cool even with 30°C outside. The room is nice and big enough as well. Since there are only two rooms, the service is very personal and comforting. Definetly worth it's price.

This ideally-located property, on the Place du Palais des Papes—just opposite the Palace of the Popes—has been totally renovated and tastefully decorated; it is impeccably maintained and full of charm. Its secret garden is a haven of peace and tranquility... the perfect place to have breakfast and/or a glass of rosé wine before venturing out for dinner.
Breakfast is delicious and filling—only the best will do at Face au Palais!
The host is extremely attentive to his guests' needs and is always on hand to provide tips on places to visit, booking a table at one of Avignon's excellent restaurants, and anything else his guests may be interested in. We couldn't have wished for a better host!
There was absolutely nothing to fault. We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay in Avignon. Everything, from the setting, the level of comfort, the cleanliness of the property, the size and decoration of the room, the size and comfort of the bed, the breakfast, the quality of service, and the attentiveness of the host, far exceeded our expectations!

… we found a courtyard of calm and tranquility, perfectly presented accommodation and a host who genuinely made us welcome. Breakfast put the very best five star hotels to shame and the presentation and attention to detail was second to none.
