About this house rental
Orchard Cottage is a delightful retreat in the grounds of historic West Stow Hall. Tucked away in a very private location with beautiful views over fruit trees and paddocks, it is the perfect place for a peaceful holiday and an ideal base from which to explore Suffolk...if you can bear to leave!
Newly renovated in a sympathetic manner with traditional Suffolk flooring, exposed beams and distempered, the cottage has everything that makes a comfortable holiday home. The open plan kitchen / living area is fully equipped so Christmas dinner should be no problem! With its full length double doors it is cool on the hottest day whilst there is oil fired central heating for the depths of winter.
Both bedrooms are light and airy and have their own en-suite shower rooms with powerful showers and plenty of built in storage space.
We hope guests find the cottage as pretty and relaxing as we do. It is lovely sitting on the terrace listening to nothing but bird song or studying the stars with only the call of the owls to break the silence. Though there is wifi and freesat TV the modern world can seem a million miles away.
Larger groups of up to 10, could also be easily accommodated by booking Gardener's Cottage, which sleeps 6, as well.
Dogs are welcome but please note that as the orchard is only fenced in by post and rail fencing and we are surrounded by fields occupied by mares and foals dogs must remain on leads at all times when in the grounds.
Unfortunately there is no safe enclosed space for dogs to roam freely outside of the cottage. There is a £20 cleaning fee payable when here for pets.
Check in time is 4pm though we try to allow guests to arrive earlier if possible. Check out is 10am.

Perfect, very well equipped little cottage. Stands at the edge of an orchard, so peaceful.
Thank you

Fully private, beautiful orchard location. Opened our eyes on the first morning to see 2 small deer grazing outside our window. Every thing we needed was provided although one rare hot night I thought a little fan might be an added extra. As a garden lover I particularly loved the Hall garden and of course the amazing Hall itself. We couldn'e have found a more lovely place.

This is a magical place. The cottage is cosy, comfortable and well-equipped and the homemade brownies were very welcome. The orchard setting is a beautifully secluded retreat from city life and we would happily come back here again (for a third visit!)

We had a lovely time in this cozy and well-equipped cottage - lots to see and do in the surrounding area (National Trust membership really came into its own!), and lovely hosts who made us feel really welcome.

Me and my partner had a lovely stay with our 11 month old pup (apologies for his barking at times) located in a great secluded corner of the farm with plenty of open space. Orchard cottage was perfect for a relaxing stay and loads of local walks to keep us busy 😊

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage in peaceful rural surroundings. Overlooking an orchard and in the grounds of a grand historic house with a beautiful garden, it was a privilege to spend time here. There were horses and foals in adjoining fields which provided additional interest.

If you love getting away from the hustle and bustle of life with complete peace and quiet this is the place for you, nestled among the wild life.
There's beautiful woodland within a short walking distance and Bury St Edmonds a 10-15 minute drive away. We loved it!

We had a great stay in the cottage. Communication with Eileen was good before and during the stay. The cottage was comfortable and it was very well equipped for us. It was nice to have no one around us and our little boy lived seeing the horses everyday. It is convenient for Bury St Edmunds and the nearby green spaces.

We spent a wonderful few days in this simple but pleasant converted barn. The location in the orchard of Tudor West Stow Hall was lovely especially with the fruit trees in full bloom.
Communication with proprietor Eileen was very pleasant and her welcoming brownies a real treat.

We stayed in The Cottage and have enjoyed the comfort of the space and wonder of the grounds for the last 2 months. Eileen is the best host we've had, and we've stayed at VRBOs around the world. She made us feel welcome and helped us tremendously during our stay. I cannot recommend this property enough. If you have children or are traveling alone this space and environment is wonderful both short and long stays. We're grateful for our time and for Eileen.

Orchard cottage is an oasis within an oasis, mid in nature, you can greet the horses and the deers come to say good morning.. we had no cellular network (which was good, this time), and sole access to the beautiful and enchanted orchard of West Stow Hall.. the weather also played ball, unforgettable stay, thank you Eileen!

If you want a quiet, peaceful break then this is the place to go. No noise just the sound of the different wildlife surrounding you. What a wonderful place to relax and unwind. Also a good base for travelling around the area site seeing.

Orchard Cottage
The location of the cottage was stunning as was the accommodation. It had all we needed and wanted. The bedrooms were comfortable and airy at a time when it was very warm. The kitchen was fully equipped and the lounge comfortable. Outdoors a lovely patio overlooking the orchard with table and chairs which were used throughout the week.

Fantastic location
I ended up staying at Gardeners cottage rather than orchard cottage as there had been a miscommunication about whether the garden was secure - it isn’t at Orchard cottage but it is at Gardeners cottage. The owner Eileen was quite happy to offer me the bigger Gardner’s cottage so I could keep my dog secure in its garden. The drawback was that there is only one bathroom at Gardeners cottage and I was expecting a guest who had been promised their own bathroom. Eileen resolved this by offering to put my guest up in the studio next door to Gardeners cottage so everybody was happy.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and my dog was captivated by the huge forest just up the road - he was in doggy heaven. He wasn’t so keen on the horses but us humans enjoyed getting up close and personal with them at every opportunity. Such a lovely peaceful setting and one I would be happy to return to another time for a longer stay.

Super cottage in beautiful surroundings
Had a fabulous short stay at Orchard Cottage. In a perfect location close to Kings Forest. The outlook over the orchard is perfect, with visiting deer & other wildlife. The cottage is perfectly equipped with everything needed for a break away & the wonderful welcome brownies were just what we needed on arrival. Would love to revisit & intend to.

West Stow Delight
From the beginning of our planning to stay in Suffolk, West Stow stood out! Communication with the host was seamless, warm, and helpful. The property was delightful, spotless, and peaceful with grazing mares and foals, deer sightings, and was surrounded by gardens and paddocks. It provided a central location for forays to the coast and surrounding villages. We will return.

A beautiful barn and location.
It was a privilege to stay in a property in the grounds of West Stow Hall. The accommodation had everything we needed and we were very comfortable. The setting is idyllic - such beautiful grounds to admire as you walk around to the quiet, and tucked away cottage. Eileen, the owner, was lovely and so helpful. Mobile reception is non-existent in the area so be sure to download your check-in info before you leave home!

Very well-appointed cottage
I don't think I've stayed in such a well-stocked cottage! The kids loved running around the orchard. Perfect location for nearby attractions such as High Lodge. Highly recommended.

Perfect mini-break escape to the country!
A wonderful 'getaway from it all' spot, the cottage is situated on the Hall grounds but such that you have complete privacy, the terrace opens out onto a beautiful orchard and you are surrounded by fields (and often horses!) and birdsong! A particular bonus to visit in good weather so that you can make use of the outside space. Inside, the place has been kitted out very thoughtfully - particularly for the keen cook! Nice beds and good showers. Communal area i.e. kitchen/dining area and living room is not huge but again it has everything that you need. A great destination from London being under a 2-hour drive and it's close to some lovely places to visit like Bury-St-Edmunds and Lavenham. Also some nice walks on your doorstep through the nearby woods. The owners are very welcoming and hospitable.

Very good overall...
It was unfortunate that there were issues with the WiFi not working when we arrived, especially as none of our party could get a mobile phone signal at the cottage. Thankfully, the WiFi issue was resolved on our second day. Eileen our host was as helpful as she could be and kept us well informed.
We raised a couple of issues about the cleanliness and the condition of some of the kitchenware. Our host couldn't have been more helpful in resolving the issues.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and were happy with the accommodation and facilities.

80th birthday treat
The host Eileen was excellent, friendly, approachable, and very helpful. Her hospitality knows no bounds, provided us with milk and yummy brownies for a cup of tea.The cottage was beautiful, homely, comfortable with a lovely orchard garden and views of horses in the fields. It was peaceful and quite and private. Lots of nice walks locally. Will difenately return in the future.
