About this cottage rental
Number 20 is one of the rare spacious homes among the slender townhouses of Clarence Street. It's just a short walk to explore Dartmouth's diverse eateries and age-old inns yet is set back from the hustle and bustle for a truly relaxing stay. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms make it ideal for couples, groups, or families. There's a relaxed living area and well-equipped kitchen plus a private patio with views across the town towards the river, plus a large garden and garage parking.
Accommodation:
The property is accessed via 12 steps to the left of the garage.
The front door leads from the patio into a large hallway which has plenty of storage space for boots and coats as well as a store cupboard under the stairs.
At the front of the property is the spacious and elegant living/dining room with views across to Kingswear and the hills above Dartmouth. This very light and airy room has lounge seating for six, including a window seat and large Freesat-enabled TV, as well as a dining area that will comfortably seat six.
Off the hallway, there is a well-equipped kitchen that includes an electric hob/oven, dishwasher, microwave, and fridge/freezer. There is also a utility room with a washing machine and sink unit leading to the back door and a WC.
The ground-floor bedroom is at the rear of the property with a double bed and a lovely en-suite bathroom which has a bath with an overhead power shower as well as a vanity unit.
On the first floor, you will find two bedrooms and a large bathroom. The first bedroom has a kingsize bed and dual aspect windows, giving views of the river as well as Dartmouth town. There are two wardrobes and a dressing table giving plenty of storage, and an easy chair. The second bedroom is a twin room with two single beds and clothes storage. There is also a large bathroom with a walk-in power shower.
There's central heating throughout.
Outside:
There is a private patio garden with outdoor furniture and attractive planters. There is a large garden to the side with seating. The private parking is a single garage that will fit a medium car. Bigger cars can be fitted in with the wing mirrors folded in and careful parking (a Land Rover Freelander and a Mercedes Vito van have been known to fit). Please note that the adjacent double garage photographed is not part of the property.
Sorry, but pets are not permitted at Number 20.

The house was very comfortable and a fantastic location. A couple of negatives however. The main one being that I parked my car (front in first) with the bonnet under the entry, some kind of liquid had dripped onto the bonnet which removed the surface of the paint. The other point (minor but unnecessary) the BBQ had not been cleaned.

Great location right on the edge of town and with the benefit of a parking space below. Garage is tight but we managed okay with our estate size car, everyone has to get out before you go in and get anything out of the boot as ours would have hit the roof! House was dusty in areas with a few cobwebs but this did not spoil our stay. Well equipped with lovely private patio which gets the sun most of the day. Seagulls are very vocal on the roof early doors as they are across town!
Overall a lovely stay and we would return.

The Wi-Fi didn’t work after all our efforts to fix it, I even reset it back to factory which should have reinstated the original password.. However, this didn’t spoil the holiday, but turned out to be the least of the problems.
The downstairs bedroom remained musty as the radiator didn’t work at all, I tried bleeding it, and put the stat up to max, but still nothing. This will have contributed to the damp musty smell, that caused our friends wife to use one of the singles upstairs.
Worst problem and really unacceptable was the shower. The upstairs one only works for a minute before running out of water and making the pump scream – this was even though the control was at less than half full on. It was even worse when the shower downstairs was running at the same time as neither worked for long. The downstairs one worked reasonably well provided the pump wasn’t turned full on. Even then we had to wait between showers for the tank to refill. Thank God we didn’t have 6 of us after all, as it would have taken all morning to shower.
Clearly the hot and cold supplies to the two showers are inadequate.
As an aside, I would also comment that the upstairs cubicle is very small, and in such a big bathroom they could have fitted a far bigger enclosure. I struggled to get down to wash my feet until the shower stopped and I had to go downstairs covered in soap!! I'm not massive....
Finally, the information really should advise the garage dimensions, as we only just got our Skoda Kodiaq in, which is a reasonably large SUV, but larger vehicles like Range Rover, Discovery, Volvo XC90 and the like just would not fit. As it was, I could only just get out of the car once parked.
All of this is a great shame, as the property itself was lovely, well equipped and in a perfect location.
We will come to Dartmouth again, in fact we stayed in one of your cottages two years ago, but we wouldn’t stay at Number 20 again unless the shower and Wi-Fi were fixed, and we would bring a smaller car.
We would also recommend it is these matters were resolved
I hope you find these criticisms constructive.

This property is larger than it looks in the photos and is in a good central location near the river. One garage space only under the accommodation but a rare find in town. The garden was large, if slightly uncared for, and great for our two dogs except for a lack of gate to one access stairway. We reported this and the owners are to be asked if they will provide one. We built a barricade with a wheelbarrow etc. from the garden. All was beautifully clean and well equipped. The furnishings are eclectic but so much nicer than the usual IKEA lookalikes. We did a bit of DIY on the rotary dryer which was tossed on the grass along with the ground spike. We set it up on the parasol base.

We stayed for Christmas and had a great time in a great location, just 2 minutes away from the centre of Dartmouth. Lovely and clean and a private garage for 1 car although it'd be a struggle with a really big car in. All in all really happy with everything.

We had an enjoyable 2 weeks at this property, the first week with friends and the second week with family including two children.
Everything worked well and as we had lovely weather so was out and about everyday. The property was accurately described in the advert.

Great stay at number 20
Excellent location so close to the river and shops and pubs you could easily not use your car at all. The house was very spacious much larger than expected and well equipped. The only thing that could be improved is the outside space needs new patio furniture with more seating (property sleeps 6 but only chairs for 4 ) also there was no barbecue as on the website description.but otherwise a really exelent home from home would definitely recommend

A lovely week
Number 20 is in a great location close to amenities but also secluded. We enjoyed the outdoor patio and the interior was very spacious too! Lots going on in Dartmouth and the South West Coastal Path was easily accessible with useful bus and ferry links. Office staff were kind and thoughtful as well.

Recommend to any Holidaymaker.
Absolutely lovely house, spotlessly clean and beds were very comfortable. Only thing missing in kitchen was a scorer to clean saucepans otherwise all was good. We had a great time and we recommend this holiday home to anyone.

Excellent location but tired, dirty property
We were delighted to see that the property is right in the heart of Dartmouth, just a 1 minute walk to the river and 5 minutes to the quay. The house is also a good size with two bathrooms and an extra toilet. Unfortunately, that is really where the positives end. The drive is incredibly steep and it was stressful every time we had to leave or returned in the car. On entering the property there was a very strange smell, a bit musty. Two out of the three toilets were dirty. They’d had bleach poured down them but under the seats had not been wiped at all with obvious signs of the previous occupants. The sink in the kitchen was filthy. On unloading our car the cleaner returned to collect her own car, think she had been shopping. I stated about the toilets to which she appeared shocked and about the sink. She claimed to have poured water from the bucket down the sink. This is revolting. Coupled with the fact there are cobwebs everywhere and all the furniture appears old and shabby and not in a shabby chic way. I complained to the agents who stated they’d give me a partial refund. We only returned from the holiday yesterday and I haven’t had the refund yet.

Fantastic Dartmouth Stay
We stayed at number 20 and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The house itself had everything we required and was very well equipped in the kitchen. We loved the quirky style of the house and it fitted with us perfectly. The house was very clean also. It exceeded our expectations and will definitely stay again!

20 Clarence Street a great place to stay.
We found the accommodation to be set in an ideal location to explore South Devon and a five minutes walk to the centre of Dartmouth. 20 Clarence Street was clean and comfortable and we would certainly return in the future. The car parking was fine, we found no problem parking a Golf size car in the garage but any larger would be a bit of a squeeze. A special thanks to all the team at Dart Valley Cottages for their help and service in these difficult times.

Great town centre location
We’ve holidayed in Dartmouth many times and this house was one of the best: well-equipped, homely and a great location. The terrace garden is quiet and private and although the house sleeps 6, it’s possible to rent just the ground floor for 2 people (sole occupancy of house).
Just take heed of the advice re garage size as it is fairly small and it’s not possible to leave your car on the shared drive. There is however street parking which is unrestricted after 6pm and out of season.

Perfect Holiday Accomodation in Dartmouth
We stayed in September and were very impressed by the location. Just a few minutes walk to the river, shops and restaurants, including a very handy Marks and Spencers food hall We barely used the car but there is parking with the accomodation which is a bonus in this area. Beds really comfortable and 2 bathrooms. Couldnt fault it.

Excellent position & parking available
Comfortable home from home house in very convenient position just a few minutes walk from town centre. Having parking available is a plus but we found the garage narrow for VW Golf, a larger car would be a struggle to park & be able to open the door. Plenty to do in Dartmouth & on the water so we parked up & managed without car for most of the week. Enjoyable week , sun every day.
