I booked this hostel, because most hotels were fully booked.. We had two rooms and slept on the floor. The mattresses were very thin, I had expected thicker futons. Toilet en shower were basic, but ok.
We needed a taxi but there was no staff in the morning. There are no Go taxi’s in Onomichi. If you need a taxi, make sure you book one upfront or ask for a phone number.

It was close to the city and check-in was pretty straight forward. The bed was nice and clean and had good privacy. They had made a nice map with recommendations for sights in the area. It's cool there is a rooftop room/terrace. The bunk had all the things you'd need, like power plug and a light.
It was difficult to find the entrance, since there were no signs with the name (not even in Japanese so you could compare with the listing). It was definitely a bit pricy for how run down it was, but I guess the location means you can name your price. There was a gap between the wall and my bed, which meant that you couldn't block out the light completely. This was especially annoying when the person sleeping above me fell asleep with her bed light on.

The localisation, the low cost, the gentleness of the tenant
Given the price, difficult to say I wanted more

Though the location is quite mysterious, especially in the evening, the guesthouse itself gave an exciting and charming atmosphere : small sign, back door entry, painting on ceiling and vivid color of stairs. I love these so much.
The single room was in ryokan style which is nice and comfortable mattress.
They had everything in need; even umbrella which I appreciate so much cause it rained on that day I came.

Staff were lovely, location was great.
Kitchen was dirty - I opened a drawer and found an in-use ashtray. Wouldn’t cook in there. One shower for lots of people and no sink to brush teeth. Toilet was dirty. Expensive for what it was. Very hard to find, no English signage.

The owner was very helpful and the dorm was comfortable. The location is perfect.
It would be nice to have keys for the door to feel like there was a bit more security.

The property is near to restaurants and bars.
The entrance was little bit messy.

I had a super nice stay there. Happy with everything, the night was a little bit cold though.
Coffee in the morning while having a nice chat.

Good location but hard to find.
The booking was made for 2 people, but when the confirmation came through later there was an error showing just 1. We were then overcharged because of this. Avoid this hostel. There are better ones nearby. :(

it was big and cheap
I had a room for myself in 3rd floor, but there was large noise from one other guest in other room on the same floor. He was talking until midnight and then he very loudly snored and talked from sleeping until 3 am or later. I couldn't sleep although I used earbuds. Also, the hotel is quite far, appx 2 km from the train station.

It was in a quaint part of the city and has a bar downstairs. The original man that we spoke to when we arrived was very friendly and helpful.
There is only one shower in the building and the place sleeps 16 people. The communal space was not clean but all this could have been forgiven if not for the fact that at 3am someone wandered in to the room speaking at the top of their voice. I'm not sure if it was the manager or two guests but when I went to speak to them they were acting as if it was perfectly normal to be speaking at that volume while other people were trying to sleep. Again, I don't know who they were but it seemed as though they had just wandered in out of nowhere too, which didn't put my mind at ease as to the safety of my belongings. Overall, this was just bad business.
