The location and cottage are great, close to Frankfort and Lake Michigan but also with the private shoreline section of Crystal Lake. Unfortunately the small and uncomfortable beds, lack of even a portable AC unit, the ants, and leak somewhere in the bathroom wall that’s under the flooring and seeping into the bedroom kind of killed the vacation for us. My wife and I had to sleep in separate beds, because the tiny beds mixed with the lack of AC made it unbearable for us. There is room for queens at least in two rooms, this should really be a cheap upgrade to make future guests moderately comfortable. Also, looking at other reviews I gotta say, invest in a bigger hot water heater already.

Great location, and nice, clean home.

It was a great week. We visit Crystal Lake annually. Often renting a cottage for the week if not staying at the local Chimney Corner's Resort. This was by far the most comfortable places to stay. Also, convenient, very close to town (5min) and everything else the area has to offer. The public beach is about a 3-4min drive (west) but otherwise swimming was just as great at this property's own private beach. Mostly sand and can walk out a ways before getting deep. Small kids (3&4) also enjoyed this beach and swimming. Lots of great history at this property and the original family still owns it. Do not have expectations of a modernized house but do expect a very comfortable, clean, relaxing, "lake-life" cottage stay at this location. We will be back for sure!

I just spent a really wonderful 4 days with my young children (aged 9 and 7) at this property in July 2022. The location is a lovely, though dense, neighborhood of lake-homes and cottages on Crystal Lake. While the homes are close enough that you'll likely interact with the neighbors if they're out on the deck, the neighbors we experienced were lovely folks. And yet there is enough yard space for a modicum of privacy and for kids to run around and play. The property itself is clean and well-maintained with a vintage knotty-pine interior look. Thankfully the technology is minimal with cable TV and the requisite wireless access. Well-maintained, basic bathroom with a vintage but functional shower stall consistent with the cottage experience. As noted in other reviews here, yes, if you have more than two people in your group, your shower time needs to be limited and purposeful or you'll run out of hot water. Bedrooms good. Kitchen clean and functional with your basic amenities. No dishwasher, no problem; I did a lot of my own dishes but was assured by property managers Vacasa that the small pile I left in the sink when we left was covered by the cleaning fee. The lack of A/C is fairly well-compensated for by open windows and ceiling fans. I had to let Vacasa know about a minor carpenter-ant intrusion, however the problem lessened over the 4 days we were there. The waterfront access is perfect for a family vacation: the lake has an extended rim of shallow bottom around its perimeter that is sandy and rocky (not mucky), and great for swimming, and on this property is largely free of rocks. The road is fairly quiet with minimal local traffic and easy for kids to cross with some supervision. Good dock for tying a small craft if you have one, and fun to jump off for the kids with the shallow water. There is a lakefront marina on the west end of the lake that will rent you a fishing rowboat with an outboard (and more sophisticated crafts) if you want to fish. The firepit is functional with logs provided, though you'll need to be handy with tinder and kindling to get it going, and we enjoyed multiple evening bonfires. It's admittedly a breathtaking location and just a gorgeous lake. Close to Lake Michigan beaches, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and much more. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the vintage nature of the property versus what else is out there. I'd gladly return, and recommend it, for the type of vacation I've described.

We loved swimming in Crystal off of the dock...no swimmer's itch. The road is not busy, so is easy to bike and walk on. The cottage was very clean and well maintained. It was comfortable and had everything we needed.
One thing that could be improved is the water heater. A party of four must take short showers. An on demand water heater would be nice. All the beds are doubles, which is fine for kids, but for adults sharing is a little tight. A queen would be great in one of the bedrooms.
Not a complaint about the cottage, but Vacasa is not staffed by local people. No local person to contact if you have a question or emergency.

Great spot on a quiet road. Even though beach is across the street, there is not a lot of traffic and the beach was sandy with very few rocks. The boat mooring worked great for our boat and Crystal Lake is a gorgeous lake. The sunsets were amazing also. The cabin has very little insulation so the outside temperature controlled the inside temperature. There is a gas fireplace for heat that was sufficient except that we were unable to get the thermostat to control it and management was unable to get this figured out for us. Luckily, the temperatures rose and even though there was no AC, the breeze from the lake along with the ceiling fans kept it very pleasant at night. The hot water heater is a little small for six people, but we managed along after we found this out the first day. All in all it was a great week and we would stay there again.
