About this cottage rental
Jan Dee Cottage has been lovingly refurbished.
It affords spectacular sea views across the English Channel which can be enjoyed from most of the rooms and sleep 6 guests. This charming cottage comprises of bright and spacious open plan living: lounge, dining room, a contemporary and well-equipped kitchen, family bathroom, double bedroom with ensuite shower, bunk bedroom and twin room with french doors leading to the balcony. Bi-folding doors from the kitchen leads to the patio and garden area with seating.
Jan Dee cottage is situated in a quiet location in Ventnor and yet is just a 5 minute walk from the town centre and Wheelers Bay seafront. Parking is on road and there is a free public car park in Wheelers Bay (conditions apply and subject to availability), accessed via Wheelers Bay Road.
This Victorian seaside town offers buildings full of character and is one of the sunniest spots on the Island. There's lovely sand/shingle beach and an esplanade which is all within a short stroll from the cottage. In addition to the main shopping street where you will find a selection of small supermarkets to include a Co-op and Tesco Express, there are parks and gardens, museums and the Winter Gardens - an entertainment venue with a growing reputation for its theatre, its concerts and comedy and dance shows. The renowned Ventnor Haven Fishery at the marina sells the daily catch of fresh fish and seafood; boat trips are also available from here.
There are a number of great restaurants in Ventnor or if you fancy a take-away to enjoy by the beach, the Ventnor Haven Fishery on the Esplanade sell fantastic fish & chips, locally caught and prepared to order.
Ventnor Botanic Garden lies in the remarkable microclimate at the heart of the famous 'Undercliff.' This unique garden is protected from the cold northerly winds by chalk downs. In addition to enjoying the lovely gardens, it also hosts events and exhibitions and there is a restaurant and Cafe on-site for refreshments; lunch or coffee and cake!
From Wheelers Bay you can take the level walk, along the sea wall to Bonchurch, or walk along to the esplanade which leads to the cliff path where you can walk towards Steephill Cove, a beautiful sheltered bay only accessed by foot.

We loved Jan Dee cottage. While it's not particularly prepossessing from the road, inside it's been beautifully modernised and opens onto a back garden and a bedroom balcony looking out to sea. Handy for Ventnor (which is delightful), the beach and great cliff top walks. It was also a very generous cottage - the owners mentioned it was their own holiday home, and it felt like they really wanted to share it with others. Fantastic for kitchen equipment, and the bedrooms were charming, but note that while it sleeps six, the third bedroom has a bunk bed and is therefore more suitable for children. Would strongly recommend.

We had a great time at Jan Dee Cottage. Its well located in ventnor which has a nice beach and nice restaurants. Also just 15 mins from shanklin. The house is clean and well appointed and had everything we needed for a nice week away

A really thoughtfully equipped and comfortable home with gorgeous sea views. The beds are really high quality and the state of decor and cleanliness really top rate.
I particularly appreciated that a large cupboard in the kitchen is left empty for guests' food - so many holiday properties have every cupboard full of equipment and nowhere to store food other than the fridge. A lovely welcome basket with treats for all the family and plenty of good-sized towels.
Minor points for improvement - the description of the house listing could be more detailed especially with respect to what equipment might be available in the kitchen. The shower in the main bathroom was very difficult to use for washing long hair - could be improved if a bracket for the handheld hose could be fitted at head height (or as high as the hose will reach)

My family from Phoenix Arizona stayed a week found it excellent very comfortable and in a very convenient location

Jan Dee cottage is in a lovely location on the IOW. The house is by far the cleanest property we have ever stayed in - absolutely immaculate. The layout of the property is perfect for children (ours are 5 and 7) and they were happy staying in the bunk room. The cottage is well equipped and everything we needed was there.
The location is excellent for exploring the island - pretty much everywhere we went to was within a 30 min drive. We would really recommend the fossil hunting tours at Brook. Even in the week when mostly the tide was high in the middle of the day there was lots to explore. We didn’t get everyone done that we wanted to in 5 days.
Parking for the cottage is in the nearby car park - this worked fine for us. The little cafe on the seafront straight down from the car park is worth a visit too.
We enjoyed several takeaways delivered to the cottage - dominos from shanklin, Indian and Chinese locally - all super quick delivery times of less than 45 mins.
The only thing to note is that in the town there is minimal Vodafone or EE signal - didn’t bother us as we were on holiday!
We all could have happily stayed for another week and will aim to return again!

Lovely cottage. Beautifully refurbished and spotless.
Location and access by car very challenging, but there is nothing that the owners can do about that.

Jan dee is a beautiful cottage with amazing views. It was a home from home. The welcome treats were a nice suprise on arrival. Loved all the extras such as parasols, buckets and spades and inflatables. It's location is perfect and only a short walk to the beach and the local shops. The only minor issue was no storage in the bunk bed room, but as we only stayed a week this was manageable. Would definitely book here again.

Our 4 night stay was 5 star all the way. The cottage was very well presented it had everything you needed.
The location was great a short walk from the beach and shops. The patio and garden with sea views was superb. We hope to return.

Jan Dee little Gem
This property is of a great standard and the location is perfect . Great amenities close at hand and great walks with added views and private garden at the rear. I have to say this house is very well equipped they have thought of everything we would certainly return. Free parking at the bottom of the hill .. however can be challenging to unload etc . All neighbours welcoming and helpful. Lovely welcome pack also included. Do take a walk into Bonchurch we also highly recommend the Inn to dine

Brilliant sea views
Jan Dee cottage has the most wonderful sea views which you can’t stop looking at! The cottage was beautifully clean and well positioned for a short stroll into Ventnor. Parking in Wheelers Bay car park was fine at this time of year. We enjoyed fantastic coastal walking on the IoW.
The one downside of the cottage is the design of the beautifully refitted kitchen - who puts the fridge on the opposite side of a large island from the cooker, hob and sink? We’ve walked miles round the kitchen just making a cup of tea!!

Lovely Ventnor getaway
Great cottage, beautifully finished to a high standard throughout, with amazing sea views. Walking distance to the town, beach and bars. Good practice for your parallel parking skills too! Although nearby free car park also available

The cottage was very clean and very well equipped. I have stayed in many holiday rentals and this is one of the best. Great location for the town and seafront.

Escape from lockdown
Fantastic property, well provisioned, comfortable accomodation and finished to a high standard. Patio is fab with elevated sea view. Thoughtful welcome pack with gifts was unexpected. 10 mins walk to the centre of town or down to the promenade for sea air. We'd definitely stay again!

Great place to start Lockdown 2!
We had a very enjoyable last minute holiday at Jan Dee Cottage, despite lockdown being announced and implemented while we were there. The cottage is quite spacious and really well equipped. At this time of the year we really appreciated the heating as well.
The cottage faces south with sea views, and was very bright, even in November. However, it is a terraced property, so if you are looking for a secluded garden this might not be ideal.
The location in Ventnor is excellent because there is good access to the seafront at Wheeler's Bay and both the town centre and beach are fairly easy walks, too. The only real downside is the lack of parking. On road spaces near the cottage are quickly taken but the free car park at Wheeler's Bay is close by and we could always park there.
Overall, Jan Dee is a great base if you want to explore what the Isle of Wight has to offer.

Beautiful Holiday Home
For our visit we really wanted a comfortable base for our adventures, and the Jan Dee Cottage delivered on this in spades. Though the weather was quite mixed for our stay, the four of us loved staying here, with plenty of room for board games round the table, great spaces for the kids to do their own thing at times, lovely social kitchen, nice outside space, balcony, super comfortable beds, hot showers..... clearly lots of thought and consideration has gone into making this a comfortable home and we were sad to say goodbye to it at the end of the holiday.
Just to add, Island Holiday Homes did an amazing job of looking after us as well - the increased hygiene measures in the turnaround for the property made us feel safe during the pandemic, the house was SPOTLESS when we arrived and they also provided plenty of hand sanitiser in the entrance way. Also, they got us a great discounted rate on the Ferry! Fabulous Service.
All round fabulous experience and I'd happily stay here again.
