We had a wonderful weekend celebrating our daughter's graduation from VCOM. We rented both Claytor Escape and Green Cape Cottage. We enjoyed the kayak, paddle boards and swimming off the dock. The house was clean and well-stocked. Check in was easy and the host was very responsive. And - the front porch of Claytor Escape is wonderful!

We had a great time at this comfortable, well-equipped house right on Claytor Lake. The hot tub area was excellent and provided lots of fun in post-graduation rainy weather, and the many decks and eating areas really added to the coziness and convenience. Would definitely recommend this place for a relaxing getaway.

My family had a beautiful long weekend at Claytor Lake. Green Cape Cottage is clean, comfortable and has everything you will need for a home away from home. We loved being on the water and close to the state parks and hiking trails. We will definitely be back!

Perfect for us - quaint neighborhood setting on a private part of the lake.
Swam off the dock a lot. Paddled down by the sandbar, which hosts beavers and otters and birds. Watched the osprey dive for fish in the lake. Checked out the outcroppings on the far bank. Took evening walks along the lakeside down the private lane. Serene, beautiful, fun stuff.
Nice lake views from the house - upstairs and down. Everything was neat and clean and well-appointed. Host was available and helpful and friendly.

Recommended. Cute, well appointed cottage lake front with small swimming dock. Located in a remote and private enclave. Swimming was great. Good fishing. Nice lake views and lots of peace and quiet. Huge private hot tub a plus. The host could not have been nicer.

Just returned from a very nice, relaxing vacation at this charming lakeside cottage. The cottage is situated in a beautiful waterfront location, well off the beaten path. The host was very communicative, and made sure we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay.
Because we were there off season, we were not able to take advantage of many of the lake activities, but took advantage of the wonderful hot tub. We will definitely consider a return stay in the summertime months.
A couple things to be aware of if you are planning a stay here, the entrance to the home requires you to climb 30+ stairs to reach the front porch. This wasn’t an issue for us but may be for anyone with mobility limitations. Also, because the house is situated in a mostly wooded area, insects are aplenty. We had a few spiders, wasps, flys & ladybugs join us during our stay. No problem for us, but something to expect. Finally, there was no cable or satellite tv for “live” tv options, but the smart TV had several streaming apps for use.
Overall we had a very pleasant experience and hope to visit again!

We had a wonderful time at Green Cape Cottage. The views are amazing, the house is comfy and well stocked. The hot tub is one of the most therapeutic I have experienced.
My only suggestion is to update the cookware with stainless steel. The pots and pans are Teflon and are very scratched up, which makes them a health hazard. Teflon is a forever chemical and scratched pans should never be used because you end up ingesting the Teflon and it never leaves your system. We brought our own pan because we have experienced the same thing at other rentals.

Great get-a-way!
We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was exactly as depicted in the listing. The host is an excellent communicator. The neighbors are friendly and it’s very private. We enjoyed kayaking, swimming and fishing off the dock. The cottage was cozy and had virtually everything we needed. We would absolutely recommend this stay!

Stay at Green Cottage
Highly recommend this place. The property is perfect. Recently done over and right on the beautiful lake. Very peaceful and only 35 minutes to Radford University and 40 minutes from VT make it a great spot to have college kids join you for a weekend

Pros and Cons
Overall it was a great weekend getaway. Everything was very clean and had such a beautiful view. The only thing we didn’t like was that there was a bee issue. Of course we enjoyed the hot tub at night but when we tried during the day, the bees surrounded us! Couldn’t enjoy the hot tub during the day. We also interestingly found about 7 ladybugs inside the house when we arrived. Don’t get me wrong, I’d much rather it be ladybugs than any other insect! But we had to keep letting them back outside. Again, overall, had a great time and enjoyed the view. Very quiet and relaxing area.

Fantastic Cottage Retreat
Comforting cottage tucked away in a nice secluded part of the lake. Serene surroundings and peaceful vibes for a great family getaway. Very accommodating cabin and Chris is right there if you need him for anything. You’ll feel at home on your stay. Relaxing in the hot tub after a long day on the water is the best..

Beautiful and Peaceful
We found the Green Cape Cottage to be comfortable and peaceful. It sits on a hill overlooking Claytor Lake, and we spent lots of time watching the birds and activity on the lake. The decks are lovely and we enjoyed sitting out. The hottub was a highlight of our trip - it has lights that make it extra fun at night. We cooked and ate at the house, and the cottage had everything we needed. The cottage is compact and has a unique design. The recent renovation makes it feel modern and new. Chris was easy to communicate with and answered all our questions.

Cozy lake cottage
Chris is a fantastic host who quickly replies and offers things before you can even ask. The house was spotlessly clean, as described and all furniture was super comfy and nice. Perfect place to relax, and enjoy the views, fire pit, and hot tub- then hit repeat for days! If you like dogs, be sure to meet sweet Maggie and Molly that live down the street. I have already recommended this cottage to friends. Thanks Chris for working with us on our arrival time and out countless questions.

Great house for a getaway
We booked this house looking purely to get away from it all during quarantine and it did not disappoint. House was very nice and recently renovated, location right on lake/view of lake was awesome and Chris was very responsive to any questions or issues we had. Would book again.

Unique Lakefront Escape
If you are looking to getaway and take that relaxing deep breathe, this is a great place to do it. Amazing lakefront views, easy water access to kayak, fish, sit and read, with a peaceful atmosphere. Our family has enjoyed other Claytor Lake rentals finding some favorite spots we know are worth the money, this one just got added to our list! First class owners that communicate quickly and are driven to making your experience not good but excellent. We asked if there was a Keurig for coffee, there was not, BUT one was there when we arrived. The property was immaculate, Hot tub clean, supplied with more than enough toilet paper/paper towels, satellite tv for rainy days, and a few snacks! This is a simple pleasure kind of place off the beaten path. Thanks to Chris the owner for providing an awesome accommodation with exceptional service so we could make priceless memories with those we love.

Cozy getaway spot
The cottage is right on the lake, leaving a very pleasant view off the front porch and the front bedroom balcony. You can tell a lot of time and effort has been put into the place; everything is in order and in great shape. So quiet and peaceful it actually threw us a bit, having lived so long in the city.
Communication with the owner was fabulous. Very quick to respond and provided everything we needed.
There are a few caveats; not deal breakers because the property is worth it but things to keep in mind.
1. The house is accessed via a single-lane road that runs along the lake. Be mindful if you're a bit squeamish about narrow roads.
2. The pic of the front of the house is from the road. There's a bit of an incline getting from the parking space up to the house itself. Try not to bring anything too heavy.
3. The neighbors are apiarists. Be mindful if you have a severe bee allergy.
Overall it was a very worthwhile trip, and I highly recommend the location if you're looking for a cozy getaway spot, a romantic weekend away from it all, an enjoyable time out on the lake, or all of the above.

Great Getaway
Loved staying at The Green Cape Cottage. While 5 of us stayed at the cottage, we had plenty of room for our son, his wife & our grandson to visit as well. Nicely decorated, comfortable and a great view of the lake!
