About this house rental
Shannonview Selfcatering is ideally located in the centre of Ireland in county Tipperary on the banks of the river Shannon. Its central location makes it an ideal base for enjoying the local attractions in the area or for making daytrips to some of the best-known tourist destinations in Ireland such as the city of Galway on the West Coast, Connemara, Bunratty Castle or the Cliffs of Moher.
The house is sitting high up on a hill overlooking Lough Derg, the large lake formed by the majestic river Shannon. This fantastic location offers guests breathtaking, panoramic views over the lake and the surrounding countryside of green fields. The front of the house is West facing and one can enjoy wonderful flaming red sunsets over the water.
The property sits peacefully and secure on the hill set back from the road, surrounded by mature gardens with native shrubs and trees on a large site which makes it ideal for families with children.
In the conservatory to the front guests can enjoy some 'time out' reading (German and English books supplied) or simply listen to the birds singing and watch the boats and cruisers drift by on the lake. The spacious patio to the front is ideal for BBQs in the summertime.
The detached bungalow has 3 bedrooms (all en-suite with shower/sink/toilet), 1 main bathroom with bathtub, playroom/lounge, large kitchen/dining room, conservatory, living room with fireplace, large patio with garden furniture, television with Satellite reception for English/German channels and free high-speed WIFI connection. The kitchen has all modern appliances like dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, oven, hob and microwave. The heating is oil-fired central heating.
For anglers there is an additional large fridge/freezer in the garage which can be used as bait fridge. There is also plenty of space in the garage to store wet gear and fishing tackle.
The house is located in County Tipperary in the Midlands, overlooking the majestic river Shannon. It can be easily reached from either Shannon airport (1 hour), Galway airport (1 hour), Kerry airport (2 hours), Dublin airport or ferry port (2 -2.5 hours) or Cork (2.5 hours). The central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the local points of interest or daytrips to the West coast.
The house is located in the scenic Shannon area and its central location makes it an ideal base for a number of daytrips to some of the most idyllic locations locally or within a short driving distance. The lake Lough Derg - described as Ireland's Pleasure Lake - is 5 minutes by foot and the local Kilgarvan Quay harbour area is a scenic, peaceful and idyllic small quay which is used for fishing, boating or just a stroll around by locals and tourists alike in the summer time.
Portumna (15 minute drive away - also the nearest bait shop) is a prime coarse angling centre renowned for its quality angling. This area offers good fishing waters which have a good track record. There are several prime angling hotspots, a number which are official match stretches located on the river Shannon itself and the Northern Shores of Lough Derg. For anglers there is an additional fridge/freezer in the garage which can be used as bait fridge and there is plenty of space in the garage for wet gear and tackle storage.
Lake Boats can be rented locally in the area and there are good fishing spots in the area.
Other activities nearby include horseriding (www.flowerhill.net or www.birrequestrian.ie) or go-carting (www.pallaskarting.com).
Terryglass Village, which is only a 10 minutes drive away is a well-known village on the banks of Lough Derg with two award-winning pubs offering good food throughout the day, Irish music sessions on most weekends and generally a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike. Paddy's Bar (www.paddysbar.ie) or The Derg Inn. In the summertime the village is buzzing with visitors who arrive into the well-developed harbour on their boats. The two pubs and the local shop and post office are only a 10-minute walk away from the pier.
A car is essential as the house is not in a village, the nearest village with pubs/restaurants and a small shop is a ten minutes drive.
The owners of the house are dog lovers and can therefore understand the dilemma of going on holidays having to leave your beloved pets behind. The large mature grounds are fully fenced in with either timber or wire fencing. There is a separate kennel area with a large dog-house in the back garden and the garage has a dog flap. Plenty of space is therefore available even for large dogs to run around the garden. Please advise host at booking if bringing pets. A refundable damage deposit of €50 is payable in cash on arrival.

This home was perfect and had everything and more than we needed. I have been using VRBO for years for trips statewide, Ireland and Italy. I can easily say Connie and Mike have been the most welcoming and accommodating we have encountered. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

This home is perfect. It was clean and absolutely price friendly. I loved having a bathroom in each of the rooms. And it was in a nice and gorgeous location.

It was a lovely property - one of the coziest and cleanest that we had been to. Connie was a super host in every way. The location was exactly what we needed for a quiet family holiday.
We are avid travellers and not many properties / hosts impress us the way this did. Highly recommend.

Connie was very helpful and friendly. She made sure that we had everything we needed and wasn't shy about asking if there was anything else she could do. Their place is truly a hidden gem and I would encourage anyone looking for a place to stay to choose there!

Beautiful property out in in Tipperary county. We flew out to Dublin for a week for work, then wanted to spend our second week in Ireland somewhere more quiet. We rented a car from Dublin Airport and drove(about 2 hours 10 min or so). Property was absolutely amazing, the pictures don't do it justice. It was larger than I was expecting; Connie, the host, was extremely accommodating and communicative via whatsapp throughout our stay, which was great as we were international travelers without a phone plan, so we could use the wifi. Would definitely recommend renting a car to get around. It was somewhere around an hour 15min to get to Galway, which is a great place to spend some time, or grab a tour and see the Cliffs of Moher. The property is the perfect place to relax, and seems like it would be great for a larger group as well. Would love to stay again next time I'm in Ireland!

Connie and Mike are phenomenal hosts. Such a relaxing site and easy access to pretty much all of Ireland in a day trip. Getting away from the busyness of the large cities was our goal and Ballinderry more than met our needs. The house gave everyone their own private space and all the comforts of home too!

A perfect week in an Irish oasis
A truly spectacular stay. Connie and Mike are helpful, kind, and all around wonderful people. Our bags were lost at the airport and they arranged to have them dropped off at their house because we didn't have working phone numbers and they hand delivered them to us! The place is beautiful. The view of the lake is stunning and it feels like it changes every day. The restaurant and pub that are right in town couldn't be more delightful and it's an ideal location to take day trips almost anywhere in Ireland! I cannot recommend this place enough. My sister and I can't wait to come back and stay again!

Beautiful house with sun room looking down at the river what more can you ask for. Thanks for the experience.

Perfect for a week away with a dog
Had a great week at this stunning location. The property is well equipped and every room and touch has been thought through in detail for guest. Would both recommend and look to return. The secure perimeter fence made taking the dog so easy!

Upon arrival at shannonview, we were immediately blown away by the breathtaking view of Lough Derg from the house. Connie was there to greet us and immediately we felt welcomed as she showed us around the house and told us how everything worked. Kilgarvan Quay, a 10 min walk where Lough Derg Watersports kayaking is a must, also great for a mooch about the marina and a dip in the lake. De Roistes bbq in Ballinderry for beers and a good feed in a fab setting. A trip to Birr and Portumna castle well worth the short trips. Its a really lovely part of the country for a relaxing break away. Connie and Mike are terrific hosts who will ensure you feel at home. Thanks for a brilliant week at Shannonview

Absolutely Amazing!
Thank You, Connie and John, for sharing your lovely Galway Bay view home! We had a magnificent time! Connie's hostess skills and quick responses were perfect! We stayed 3 days, and we will definitely be back in the springtime &/or summertime. Connie took the time to show us how to use all appliances and technology items in the house. The information/history binder was helpful too. Definitely one of the best places we have stayed at with Home Away & VRBO! Connie has won awards, we know why. Thanks again for your hospitality and professionalism, Connie and John!

The hospitality of Connie and Mike was beyond compare! The house was perfect.
We were welcomed with a lovely care package and tour of the house by Connie. The house was exactly as described and perfect for our family of 5. Connie even had the home decorated for Christmas! I will definitely stay again when we return to Ireland.

The property is wonderful with a gorgeous view of the lake. Everything you need is available i.e. washer/ dryer, dishwasher, coffee makers and even an outside grill. Connie as complied an enormous amount of brochures and resources to assist visitors in planning their days. This was extremely helpful. This was a wonderful experience.

We had a great time at Shannonview.
The house was clean and well organized; it was spacious and well attended; it provided a great base for our day trips in Ireland. We really enjoyed the conservatory and also our dinner on the deck using the gas grill.

Lovely home, gorgeous view, plenty of room and most comfortable!
Connie is a marvelous host! She’s kind, funny and very thoughtful. Our stay was made so much better due to her genuine care for our 7 and general welfare. The bungalow lists for six and when we told her we would have 7, she provided a comfortable cot! Her responses to all of our questions were timely and always included a helpful hint or two. We took her up on just about every suggestion (too little time to do them all!) and everything she suggested we took up proved to enhance our trip in ways we had not thought possible! I would suggest her to everyone! She and her husband Mike were very easy to contact and responded very quickly. Anyone who stays with them should take the short walk down to Loch Derg and partake in a session with Loch Derg Watersports and the kayaking experience provided by the owner Becky. Our 7 spent 2 hours on Loch Derg with her and one of her wonderfully fun employees, Jacob. That was one of Connie’s suggestions and it proved to be one of the highlights of our trip! We also caught a session of genuine Irish music at Kennedy’s Pub - not to be missed! So, everything was grand at our stay at Shannonview Self-Catering!

Home away from home
What a great spot, they just thought of everything - instructions everywhere on how to use the appliances, the outdoor play equipment, all the brochures for outings, the list goes on and on. Great sized rooms, just an amazing kitchen with all the pieces you might need (including an outdoor BBQ). And Connie and Mike were so friendly and always available to help. We were very happy to find this place!

Wonderful stay!
We stayed for 4 days over Christmas and it was a wonderful experience Connie and her husband welcomed us and made us feel at home. They also checked in on us periodically to make sure we weren't in need of anything. The house is beautiful and the front room with the TV and fireplace got a lot of use.
It is a short walk to the waterfront and there is also a restaurant within walking distance. If you like to fish they even provide fishing rods and tackle.
We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone!

Ideal place to stay
It's a fantastic place to stay! Great bungalow providing plenty of equipment in the kitchen and play stuff for the kids. Lovely view of lake and close for water sports. Easy reach of tourist attractions too.

Lovely home!
This was a great home to stay in. Very spacious with lots of room and a lovely view. It is a bit difficult to find so make sure you go by the directions she gives you to go, but make sure you are looking as the house is not easily marked with the name and you will miss the sign as it is on a brick wall coming into the drive way.

Excellent central Ireland location
The home was exactly as described. We enjoyed the spacious kitchen which is much larger than the one we have at our home. Plenty of tourist information was provided. Connie and Mike were excellent hosts. They were waiting for us when we arrived and gave us a detailed breakdown of the features of the home. The property was clean and well-maintained. We stayed for over two weeks and Mike mowed the grass and Connie brought us a change of towels and linens without us having to ask. Connie and Mike were very responsive to any request we had. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting them. We would easily recommend this home to others. We would have stayed longer if our schedule would have permitted it. Nenagh and Portumna were close by for grocery shopping. Day trips can be done to Connemarra, Cliffs of Moher, Rock of Cashel, and Roscommon. There are numerous activities within an hour from the house that aren't listed in most major travel guides (such as Rick Steve's and DK). The Ireland Pocket Guides produced by the National Tourism Development Authority are the best guides for the specific regions of Ireland. Overall the home was a great value for our money and we would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful experience
We stayed at the Shannonview Selfcatering house for 6 days in late May. the owners, Connie and Mike, were fabulous hosts. My family of 5 was visiting from the US, and they were incredibly hospitable and helpful in making our stay great. There were a couple of unpredictable snafu's with the house, but Connie and Mike were highly responsive and took care of those problems immediately. Mike and Connie met us a the house for a tour upon our arrival. They left us a very nice gift basket, and they even offered to babysit so my wife and I could have a night out without the kids!
The house itself was just as described. Very spacious, well-kept, and comfortable. Not luxurious, but very comfortable. The kitchen was very well stocked with plenty of supplies and all staples you'd need.
The location is relatively convenient to Galway and Limerick, and to sites on the West coast of Ireland. Incredible view of the lake and the countryside from the sunroom, and a cozy fireplace in the living room for chilly nights. We could not have been happier with the place or our hosts.

One of our best memories of all times
Your first impression is wishing you had more time to spend in the property. We stayed almost a week, and was impossible to enjoy everything Shannonview had to offer. It's the kind of place that you would like to rent for a winter stay, when you want plenty of indoor entertainment, or a summer one, to make BBQs outside while looking at the sunset over the lake. As we stayed in spring, we enjoyed the best of them: a warm and comfortable inside and a delightful outside full of flowers and singing birds.
The house is fully equipped for any length, with plenty of room for your own belongings. It is next to a very quiet road with almost no traffic, perfect to have a walk to the lake. If you don't have planned anything or need extra help, there is a lot of useful information about Ireland that you can check to decide your next move.
From there you can easily cover the west and the center part of the country in one day trips, but shorter trips to the beautiful immediate surroundings would give you enough free time to spend at the house.
And the most important: Connie and Mike, the owners, were an added value to the house. They make you feel as friends, not as customers. They live in a village nearby so can help you with anything you need with just a call, but believe me, you won't have any problem because everything was in the best conditions. Any words I say are not enough.
If we plan another trip to Ireland, I know where we would stay. No need to look further.
And, of course, I haven't told everything, as there are some surprises you should discover by yourself (wink!).
Thanks for everything!!

Excellent home away from home!!!!
Our stay at Shannonview exceeded our expectations. The home is comfortable, well maintained, clean and have plenty of room of our family of 4. Connie and Michael are great host and hostess. They were very customer oriented, friendly and gave us lots of great tips on local places to eat and purchase groceries. We spent New Year Even's with them at "Paddy" Pub and had a blast. We would recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a great place to stay. The view from our bedroom and the sun room is fantastic. The bedrooms are specious and comfortable as well as the bathroom. When we are back next time, we will be back and stay at Shannonview. Thank you Connie and Michael for being so kind to us.

Impressive and unforgettable Christmas retreat!
The house has an impressive panoramic view of the beautiful lough derg. Every corner of the house is well designed. We spent most of our time in the lovely living room, watching TV and playing cards at the fireplace. Easy drive to many great places including Galway (1hour) and Birr castle (30 mins), we also had a nice drive around the lough derg. It was a extreme cold winter, but with Connie and Mike's hospitality, we feel extremely warm. Unforgettable Christmas dinners together, and a really deep explore in the mid Ireland! We will definitely be back in summer time! hope won't be fully booked then:) LOL
