About this house rental
BESSIE’S
This house was built by a Cherokee woman and her husband. The original house was located beyond the well where a rock wall can still be seen. They lived there while this house was completed. After he died, she continued to live here until she passed.
You might notice several of the light switches are lower than usual. Bessie was less than five feet tall. She used the back room as, what she termed, her Indian kitchen. It had a wood cook stove which she preferred. Her granddaughter upgraded the current kitchen but Bessie called it the White kitchen and continued using the one in the back. She always had a large garden on the flat to the right of the carport and used the rock BBQ pit to can her vegetables.
I can remember many times seeing her walk up and down the road looking for her sons. If I stopped, she would only speak to me in Cherokee. I was convinced she didn’t speak English until my wife remarked she just didn’t speak English to me.
We call this house Bessie’s in remembrance of her.
OVERVIEW
You can enjoy 600 feet of flat creek frontage and a large expanse of grass with no neighbors. There are both front and back porches, a large fire pit with firewood, charcoal grill and picnic table in the back yard. Benches and a swing are overlooking the creek for quiet times. The house has 2 bedrooms and one bath. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other 2 twins. There is a full size pull out sofa in the back room. The living room has a reclining sofa and love seat and the back den a love seat, rocker and table desk. Both rooms have WiFi, TV with independent Netflix and ROKU operation with a DVD and VHS player in the den. The kitchen is stocked with the usual items including Keurig, drip and percolator coffee pots, microwave and dishwasher. Linens, paper goods and soap are furnished. Washer and dryer are off of the den.
This house is located on the lower end of Little Snowbird creek about 8 miles west of town. The approach road is paved and the driveway is hard packed gravel with an adjacent carport. There is parking both on the driveway and above the house.
The area offers boating at Santelelah Lake, the scenic Cherohala Skyway, The Tail of the Dragon with its many curves, for motorcycle enthusiasts, hiking the many trails in and around Joyce Kilmer National Forest. There is rafting and kayaking on the Nantahala river and of course great trout fishing on several creeks in the area. Fishing license can be bought online.
It's recommended that groceries be purchased before arriving to save a trip back to town. Additionally, this is a dry county so any alcoholic beverages need to be brought in.

The property was beautiful and has a creek running the entire length.
We enjoyed the fire pit and outdoor grill immensely.

I have several pictures of bugs, webs, the porch not cleaned. It made it very hard to sit outside at all.
I have pictures if you like to see them

I booked this property as part of a weekend getaway for my husband. He loves to fish and we had to cancel his birthday trip earlier in the year so I wanted to do something for him. So I sent him on a solo weekend trip to the area.
He loved this home. He loved the creek and he has talked about the owners, the house, and the area non-stop since he has come home. I keep hearing “when can we both go? I want you to go there too!”
Thank you so much to the hosts. The communication was superb and we can’t wait to book again soon!

This cute little house reminds me of my grandmother's house. When you walk through the door you get that warm welcome feeling. There's nothing in the house that you could possibly want for. It's just cute and cozy. The owner Michael is so friendly. It was such a pleasure to talk with him. Any questions I had he was right there to answer them. The outside was exactly as described. There are no neighbors to be seen. Best description I could give is peaceful from the sound of the creek rushing by. And from the outside there was nothing you could want either.
I have stayed in many places and this is truly a little piece of paradise. I cannot wait to come back and stay again . Thank you Michael for sharing your piece of heaven with us!!

If you want to get away from it all this is the place to go. Well priced, cozy, and clean. Its close enough to town to get what you need but far enough out to not see hardly any cars. The creek is a bonus and the yard is a park like setting. The cabin is stocked well with everything you'll need. Just bring some food and drinks and enjoy!
Btw, great hosts too! We will definitely be back 😊😊😊

Without question, the Miller's property is the best equipped and most generously supplied property I have ever encountered.
Warm and comfortable in the cool weather, Bessie's is a grea. t place to come home to after a day wading a cold stream trout fishing.
AND... No place is closer to the fishing!!
My thanks to you both. I sincerely hope to see you next year.

Our stay at this rental was absolutely fantastic! The house was perfect in every way, and its location couldn't have been better for easy access to the Miata's at the Gap event. The accommodations were not only comfortable but also well-equipped, making us feel right at home. The attention to detail in the house's design and amenities truly exceeded our expectations. Plus, the proximity to the event made our experience even more enjoyable. We can't thank the hosts enough for providing such a wonderful place to stay.

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this little cabin for our fishing trip. It was small but we had plenty of space for the two of us. The property was beautiful and we were impressed with all of the accommodations provided. The host checked in with us (via text) to make sure we got in ok and had everything we needed. The location is fairly remote but it was a much shorter drive to town than we expected which was nice. WiFi and phone service was a little spotty which was to be expected in that area. Great Experience. We can’t wait to come back!

If you want to get away from everything, this is a great place to do it! The cabin felt like home and the backyard with stream was beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch and listening to the water rush over the rocks. The owners are great too, making sure to call first night and make sure all was OK.

Nice quiet location
Great value, nice location for our motorcycle trip chasing the Tail of the Dragon. Pros.... Loved the peace and quiet. Since it was April we did not get to enjoy the property, but am sure it would be so lovely in the summer. Con....For some it might be too far out of town. Closest bar/tavern is also far away. Thank you Michael and Joyce. We would love to stay here again next time.

Perfect Family Vacation
Myself, husband and 2 daughters had a wonderful time at Bessie's. We spent many hours down at the creek which was beautiful and peaceful. So nice to have such a big yard for the girls to run around in. Every night we had a fire in the firepit and it was so nice to have firewood fully stocked. Bessie's is also fully stocked from everything you need in the kitchen to all different types of shampoos in the bathroom. There are even puzzles and lots of books to read for relaxing. The beds were very comfortable as well. The host, Michael, even checked on us, which was so nice. Such a wonderful time and everything you need for a relaxing vacation. Thanks and we hope to return in the future!

The moment we arrived we felt we had entered a magical place. The large green space surrounding the home was beautifully kept. We heard the sound of the creek which borders one side of the property - magical! The photos of the property cannot capture the true beauty and charm of this listing. The home was very clean and so so comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with items that made our stay much less complicated as we were traveling by motorcycle and lacked space for packing in groceries. There are two cozy sitting rooms, both with TV's and comfortable furniture. We found this to be a bonus as we can't always agree on the TV.We splet soundly and comfortably. It was nice to have hangers in the closets for hanging our gear.Having a washer and dryer was really nice since we ended up riding thru rain one day. No worries! We got everything clean and dry in a flash. Our time spent at "Bessie's" was so enjoyable, from sitting in the swing by the creek, to having a nice fire in the fire pit (wood was stacked and split by the fire pit), to just being able to relax in front of the TV, we found Bessie's magical.Communication with the host was easy and pleasant. Michael called on our arrival day to make sure we had arrived safely and to check that we had everything we needed. The fact that our "go to" place in Graham Co was unavailable and we found Bessie's turned out to be a real blessing! We hope to be able to stay at Bessie's each time we visit Graham Co. I don't believe we could ever find another property that suits us as well as Bessie's!

This property is in a great location pretty far from from things but close enough. The stream sets it apart from other properties and provides a constant sound of nature. The home is older and is appointed with older decor but is clean and well maintained. Thanks
