About this house rental
The Barn at Mead Farm is a truly special place on the doorstep of the Pennine Way. With views throughout the Hope Valley, and the iconic Lose Hill, Win Hill and Kinder Scout range right on your doorstep it really is the perfect place to come and get away from it all.
The Barn has been lovingly rebuilt in the original stone to reflect its history but with the benefits of modern living within. The bedrooms feature vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and trusses. The ground floors are fully tiled with underfloor heating, with traditional radiators in the bedrooms. The original barn has been divided into two separate holiday barns, the smaller being The Acorn which sleeps two and the larger being The Oaks which will sleep five, all with ensuite bedrooms.
Light and airy with a contemporary feel, The Barn is an ideal place to relax after a long day exploring the area whether walking, cycling or sightseeing and taking in the many local attractions. The Barn is totally non-smoking, as are the outdoor patio and terrace.
Both barns have central heating and are fully equipped with everything you will need for a home away from home. We provide all towels and bedlinen.
There are paved patio areas to the front and rear of The Barn, both enjoying superb views across the Hope Valley. There is a sheltered patio with picnic tables for the summer months where you can enjoy views over Win Hill. Guests are also welcome to explore the private farmland where we have a flock of sheep grazing with their lambs in the spring season.
There is off road parking provided in front of the barn and lockable storage for bikes and other outdoor equipment.
Mead Farm is situated in the heart of The Peak National Park with easy access to walks in every direction. With views to both Win Hill and Lose Hill, it is in an area of outstanding beauty, but within easy reach of local amenities.
The village of Hope has a variety of local shops and pubs. There is a fridge and freezer in both barns and plenty of storage space for groceries.
The railway station is about a mile away from the village with regular trains between Manchester and Sheffield. There is a bus route which runs through to Sheffield from Castleton.
Castleton is the busiest village in the area with plenty of places of interest to visit - The Blue John Mine, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern, Peveril Castle to name just a few. There are several interesting shops selling jewellery and gifts and a variety of places to eat and drink.
The Barn is a short walk from The Cheshire Cheese Inn just along Edale Road. The Cheese has all the warmth of a traditional English pub with a friendly welcome good food and drink and a great atmosphere. It has a regular folk music night on the first Thursday of the month which is a real local institution and great fun.
The Oaks is a three bedroom barn sleeping up to 5 people. It features a bedroom with a king sized bed and ensuite bathroom with bath/shower, a twin bedroom with ensuite shower, and a single bedroom on the ground floor also with an ensuite shower.
It has a fitted kitchen with electric hob and oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle and cafetiere, iron and ironing board and all of the crockery, pans and utensils required for your stay.
The living area is open plan. For your entertainment there is a TV/DVD and wi-fi internet access.
Bedlinen and towels are provided for your comfort.
We provide lockable storage for bikes and other outdoor equipment.
We also have a second holiday barn here on Mead Farm called The Acorn which sleeps 2 people. The barns can be booked separately or together allowing up to 7 people to be comfortably accommodated.

Being married to a retired government official who was involved in various tourist attractions and on the Board of Ireland and Britain for a spell we were very happy with what was on offer. Definitely a 5/5 - no complaints whatsoever. Perfect.

We received a lovely welcome from Chris and had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay. We each commented on how comfortable the beds were. We will hopefully return here one day.

Great Weekend getaway
We stayed at the Barn for a cycling weekend with some friends. The property was perfect for us, very well equipped and very well presented. The location was great and Chris, the owner couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome. Would definitely recommend.

We booked a late summer long weekend at The Oaks at Mead Farm. From the initial contact, we couldn't fault Chris' attention to detail and communication. We had high hopes for the property from the previous reviews and we weren't disappointed. The property is very well maintained and is perfectly located in our opinion with a number of walks right from your door but still only a 10 minute amble down to the pubs and food in Hope (and if that's too far for tired legs after a day of walking there's also a pub only 200m away). A beautiful location, with everything you could need, what more could you want, we're already working on the next dates we can visit 😁

Outstanding in a truly perfect setting. The owners have given great stylish attention to detail
This accommodation has everything you could wish for: warmth, comfort, style in a beautiful setting, with a great pub and farm shop tucked away down the lane. You can walk for miles from the Barn exploring gentle hills and higher peaks. Our stay was so memorable that we are definitely returning. Many thanks to the owners!

A beautifully decorated and welcoming home
We had a great stay at The Oaks. A warm and welcoming place to stay in beautiful surroundings. We were joined by friends and it was perfect having all en-suite rooms. We did struggle a bit with the electric hob at first as we’re not used to that. But that’s just a personal niggle! The beds were very comfortable too. Great walls from the door although we didn’t actually do them! Chris was very helpful throughout our stay. All in all a great week. Thank you Chris & Tanya.

Beautiful House in Stunning location
The house was all drsssed for Christmas. The welcome pack of freshly baked scones, milk, butter, milk, jam, bread, eggs and cake - was delightful. The house is well equipped and very clean.
The host was very welcoming to.
Great location for varying walks, a fab pub just 10 mins walk and easy to drive to other sights. Just perfect. Would thoroughly recommend.

Brilliant. Great base for walking and exploring the Peak District.
Perfect location for walking. Beautiful conversion with industrial sized beams and bright and light with a huge window. Warm and cosy as well. Pub within 2 min walk. Village shop a five min walk. Fantastic accommodation. Would highly recommend. While I did not meet Chris the owner, my friends who did told me he was friendly and laid back.

4 DAY BREAK AT THE BARN
We are 5 retired/semi retired guys that have been meeting once a year for a long weekend since 1972. We had a great time this year (in spite of the weather) and this property was the icing on the cake. Great location, really nice owners and a beautiful conversion of a fine looking barn. None of us could think of anything that could be done to improve this property. If you are looking for accommodation in or near Hope for between 2-5 people, then look no further.

Lovely clean property, in good location
This is a well converted barn, kept extremely clean and homely. The welcome pack on arrival (particularly the still warm, home baked scones!) was much appreciated. It was well heated and generally well equipped, though we could have done with some more crockery to avoid having to put on a half empty dishwasher after every main meal. It's well located, with easy access to Hope for supplies, Castleton, Peverel Castle, underground caverns and stunning views from Edale. Overall, highly recommended.

Faultless!!!
As a group of four adults the long weekend spent in the barn conversion at Mead Farm was in all our opinions faultless. Finished to a very high standard and immaculately clean it didn't feel as if you we're in rented accomodation. The barn was not lacking for anything, local walks outside the front door and plenty more within a 10 minute drive. We ate in the local pub 2 nights all of a 2 minute walk and ate in Castleton, where there is a better selection the other night (£5 taxi ride). We would highly recommend this accommodation should you ever be looking to rent in the area, I would be surprised if you would find anywhere better!!! Although the owners live next door we only saw Chris when we handed the keys back, which is always a good sign!

Beautiful getaway for a quiet break
Four of us stayed for a long weekend. Everything that we needed was provided. There was a lovely welcome from Chris and a delightful welcome pack of home made scones, jam and butter to greet us at the end of our long journey.
The local area has amazing views and walks which we enjoyed. The local town of Castletown had a Christmas light switch on and the town had a really warm party atmosphere. We enjoyed a local Sunday lunch in the Cheshire Cheese Inn following the Church service at St. Edmunds on St Edmunds day.
Perfect for a quiet retreat of any length as there is so much to do within easy reach.

Very comfortable clean spacious house with lots of character
This really is a great place to stay in stunning surroundings.
The owner Chris is very friendly from initial contact through to saying good bye, keen to offer any local guidance also. The house has great character, spacious, lovely décor, clean and everything you would need including fast WIFI which was so important for the teenagers!
Hope and the surrounding area is really beautiful and 'hope' to return in the near future.

Supurb cottage
The Barn Cottage was supurb, very well furnished and comfortable, nice to have an en suite for each bedroom. In a lovely part of Derbyshire with surrounding walks from the cottage. Our family would highly recommend this cottage.

We had a lovely 3 night stay in Oak Barn to enjoy an indulgent weekend of sewing our patchwork and quilting projects. The accommodation was excellent throughout and the location superb.
