About this house rental
Set in a beautiful Victorian private country estate of 350 acres of farmland, parkland and woodland on the Dorset/Devon border, the house is situated in a courtyard terrace and was once part of the stable block of the Home Farm near to the main mansion. Enjoy a peaceful and relaxing break - stroll along tree lined walks, take the path down to the estate's private beach or discover the South West Coastal foot path which runs through the grounds. Perfect for 4 -legged friends too! The Rousdon Estate is a 5 minute drive from Lyme Regis (home to the famous Cobb and some lovely beaches) and only 10 minutes from Axminster where the River Cottage Canteen can be found. In fact, it's a perfect spot for exploring all along the Jurassic coast - from looking for fossils at Charmouth and visiting the Swannery at Abbotsbury to the quietly dignified Regency town of Sidmouth and quaint fishing village of Beer.
The house itself offers all home comforts and is equipped to a very high standard. With four bedrooms (1 king, 2 doubles and a bunk room for 2 only appropriate for children) Two en-suite shower rooms, a family bathroom with bath and a downstairs cloakroom ensure you can be up and out quickly to enjoy your day. Outside there is a 50 foot garden lined with shrubs affording a great deal of privacy and a terrace for al fresco dining and barbecuing.
As a dog owner myself, I know how important it is to find somewhere suitable and welcoming for faithful companions and a maximum of 2 dogs are welcome at Home Farm North.

Such a beautiful building inside and out. The estate was fabulous and we really appreciated the privilege of a private beach with a fantastic walk to it that inspired the imagination (able to clamber and balance essential) We even found a few fossils there.

Lovely location for exploring the Jurassic cost. The private estate was really special and perfect for the early morning at late evening dog walks. Getting to the private beach was an adventure but not an easy trek that one would want to do regularly. The property is well laid out for a social blue family gathering. The large kitchen was well equipped making it easy for everyone one to get involved. On fine days the south facing enclosed garden provided a welcome space to share an outside meal and drinks. Overall it is a real gem of a place.

Sadly weather not great, but beautiful house. It had everything you need. The beach we only found on the last day, it was a bit of a trek, but worth it .

Spacious, sociable, beautiful property.
Just loved this property, it has everything you need and more., including dog treats! So much thought has gone into the decor and the little items around the house.
The garden is a good size and safe for both small children and pets.
Rousdon estate is quite surreal and a little oasis with lovely walks. The walk to the beach is a real challenge though and certainly not for the frail or taint hearted! Worth the trek when you get there but then you have to consider the walk/climb back!
Lots of beautiful beaches nearby, most of Dorset isn’t known for sandy beaches so be prepared for pebbles and shingle.
We all loved this beautiful house, definitely the best self catering property we have ever stayed in.

My retirement treat.
It was our 2nd time at this house, myself and the wife, my two sister’s and the brother in-law and it won’t be the last, as soon as you walk through the door you feel you are at home, not in a holiday let, the house has everything you need for a self catering holiday, and the Rousdon Estate is so peaceful you cannot help but relax, and the welcome package was a nice gesture and much appreciated. We very much look forward to our next week at this house, once we have worked out our date’s we will be booking our stay again, and sally couldn’t of been more helpful in answering questions that I asked prior to us arriving. And to that sally I thank you for a wonderful week’s holiday.

Delightful property in a lovely setting
A delightful, light, spacious and airy house set in a beautiful landscaped private estate full of character. Tastefully decorated, especially for Christmas. It was well maintained and equipped for the size including consideration for dogs. We all enjoyed a house with plenty of comforts - sofas & beds.

Lovely place. Walks in the grounds and to a beautiful private beach. The house is well equipped
Enjoyed our stay. House was great. Can be an issue with parking especially with the residents but we sorted it out. Beautiful grounds and walks. Definitely need a car to get around. Can thoroughly recommend a trip to the donkey sanctuary about 20 minutes away.

Brilliant break
We had a lovely family holiday. The house was very comfortable, well appointed and particularly important for us was very dog friendly. We managed to explore lots of the estate and went on long walks everyday. The estate is very well kept and beautiful. The best part was the private beach. Quite a walk to get to it but the paths are very well kept and although steep in places not difficult to navigate if you take your time. The beach is beautiful. So quiet!!! Our teens even ventured into the sea. Lots to do close by too. Easy to access the coastal path. We walked to Beer one day which took us about 2 and a half hours. Sally was a great host and her response to emails and questions was second to none.

Home from home
A lovely property that felt like home. The estate was beautiful and well situated to visit the best of East Devon and West Dorset beaches. Never got to the estate beach as it was a good 40-50 minute walk from the cottage but there were lots of lovely walks on the estate. The owner was very helpful. Would absolutely recommend for an idyllic family holiday.

Relaxing family holiday
What a lovely relaxing family home. All possible utensils etc in the best stocked kitchen I’ve ever stated in as a rental. Cool even in the heatwave we had. Perfect situation mid way between Lyme Regis and Seaton. Plenty to do and see within 15/20 minutes drive including multiple beaches. Private estate beach is stunning , the trip down and up again less so but we’ll worth the effort if you can persuade your teenagers. Dog friendly. Thank you Sally we had a great time.

“Our best holiday home to date”
My 4 year old grandson described it as our best holiday house to date and requested a return to this house. That says a lot for us!
It is a lovely house in a delightful setting. The weather let us down again and had it not been for this beautiful house, we possibly would have cut the holiday short. Sally has created a wonderful home from home experience and it certainly worked for us.

Stunning location
Beautiful and peaceful home on the Rousdon Estate with easy access to both Dorset and Devon locations.
Easily accommodates 8 people with plenty of room in both the kitchen / dinner and lounge.
Advise if your staying overnight Sunday to park at the back of the property as it’s bin day on Monday and the lanes are quite narrow.
Would love to return and stay on the future.

Wonderful stay
I’d say the pics almost don’t do the property justice. Delightful, spacious, clean with lovely garden & the private beach is well worth the walk. It is simply magical!

Home from home getaway
We had a lovely 3 days stay. The cottage is part of the Rousdon estate on the cliff top above the Undercliff. There are some lovely walks in the estate grounds and Lyme is only a 5 minute taxi ride away. The house was roomy and very well equipped. Showers hot and my bed was very comfy. Communications were very easy and we had no trouble finding our way or getting access. The estate residents were very friendly and helpful with giving directions to the Private beach.

A lovely four night break
A lovely house on a quiet private estate.
Needs a little attention to detail.
A beautifully equipped kitchen, and a great welcome hamper.
A deep cleaning of the shower rooms ,and the removal of several cobwebs around the house would make it perfect.
Also as it had rained a lot while we were there it made to patio very slippery.A power wash would have made all the difference.
Having said all this ,,we did enjoy ourselves.

A lovely house in a tranquil location
The property owner, Gill, described her house as a 'Tardis' and we agree. The amount of interior space is far greater than the exterior suggests. We loved just about everything about the place - the spacious living room, superb and very well-equipped kitchen/diner, good sized bedrooms, powerful showers, not to mention the much-appreciated welcome pack and the amazing selection of books. And we haven't even started on the Rousdon estate itself, which is just fascinating. Overall, we had a lovely holiday and will look forward to going back sometime during 2021.

Fantastic house on a beautiful estate
The house is really great and spacious, and the estate is beautiful. Very impressed with how well equipped the kitchen is which was perfect for us as we cooked most nights. Also great to have Sky TV as we had such awful weather so couldn't enjoy the garden! We tried to get to the beach, but the path looked extremely treacherous which is a shame. It was also sad that the village bakery was closed for renovations, which we didn't know until we walked up there! Overall, a lovely place to get away from it all.

Great house
Really enjoyed our stay, the house has a great layout with everything you need to cook a nice meal, a nice amount of room in each bedroom and living area, and the welcome basket was a really lovely touch. Great location for trips into Lyme Regis and beautiful walks. Loved it!

Great Dorset stay
We stayed in the beautiful Rousdon estate - the house comfortably housed our party of nine 6 adults and 3 children. The house and the estate are in perfect position for exploring the area whilst providing a great base and accommodation. Due to Covid we ended up self catering more than we would normally and the kitchen provided a superb area to do this and to accommodate the multitude of chefs. Our children especially enjoyed exploring the estates on their bikes and being in a safe area. The only downside to the property is where you have young children the open plan nature means sounds carry upstairs making settling for bedtime a bit harder than normal. Thank you for a great stay.

Lovely spacious and quirky place
We had a lovely time at this great property even though the weather was very ropey at times. It was so homely and spacious - loved the design with the amazing ceiling height. It was just what we were looking for as a break from London during half term.

Fantastic Autumn Stay
An amazing property in a perfect location. Ideal for getting out and about or staying around to relax. We were here for a week in poor weather and had a brilliant time due to large well equipped kitchen enabling us to prepare some great family meals and play games. Very comfortable and enjoyed by our children and 85 year old parents. Gill is a great host and was very helpful.
