We enjoyed the location, comfortable beds and all the amenities available in the kitchen.

We loved this property it fit our family of 4 very well. It was nice being on the water. We enjoyed being able to rinse off in the outdoor shower after being at the beach. The parking underneath was nice and gave us a place to keep our kayaks. The corn hole boards were nice in the evenings after dinner. The property could have been cleaned a little better. The ceiling fan had about 2 inches of dust. Since it’s a pet friendly property it’s also important to clean under the beds. Lots of pet hair in corners and underneath things. The property could use some paint and a new kitchen table. Other than that, it was a great place!

Great location

We’ve stayed at many houses in Avon over the years and the was one of our favorites for a couple or small family. House is updated and cozy, with a nice spot on the canal out to the sound.

Overall this home was fantastic. Close to everything we came to visit and do. The home was very comfortable and was very well stocked with everything needed. We will be staying again if available during when we come. 😊

We found the home very cozy and well appointed. Master bed was comfortable and we the single floor living a delight after decades of 3 story OBX houses. The deck is shaded from noon to 5ish. The canal view is nice but others nearby have grander vistas. The kitchen had everything we needed and the furniture was all in good shape. The Wifi was especially strong and we had no issues streaming content, even out on the deck! Would definitely return.

We really appreciate our stay in this house. It was close to all major locations. A basket for fishing blue crab was available. The house is bigger than it looks in the photos. However, the mattress in the master bedroom is really not comfortable.

Duckin' Around met all of our needs! I loved the layout of the house with the primary bedroom on the opposite side of the house from the other two bedrooms. A very functional house plan, more so than many other Avon rentals we've stayed in with more square footage. I appreciated the fact that the primary bathroom had a wall cabinet, which was the perfect size for my make-up, toiletries, and hair products. I enjoyed the airy vibe the recent updates offered. Before our stay, I read a review about Palmetto bugs, which we know are indigenous to the area, however, we saw none, even being on the lookout for them. We always, always take large gallon storage bags to store any open dry foods like chips, crackers, cookies, etc. for that very reason. The outdoor area and dock were family friendly and well kept. The area under the house was clean and large enough to cover a car, maybe two they are compact. Thank you to the owners for not allowing the shrubbery to be so overgrown. We truly enjoyed our time in this home.

It's a cute house in a good location. Could not get the main AC to work, thankfully there was a seperate unit in the bedroom, but had others been staying with us that wouldn't have cut it. Kitchen has most everything you need to cook, but you'll have to wash them. Beds and couches are very uncomfortable. My body felt like I had been in a car wreck by day 3. Could have been cleaner. We've been coming to OBX for years, 3 times a year for the past several years, so we've stayed in a lot of houses, I've never seen so many "palmetto bugs".

Cock roaches
The house itself was fine except for discovering cock roaches the second to last night (we didn't spend much time in the house even at night until bed). Also the grass wasn't maintained for at least three weeks which was a pain for the dogs. (My husband owns a lawn care business)

Great getaway!
I loved the keyless entry, the rooms are very comfortable.

Perfect Canal Location
We very much enjoyed our stay here. Everything was clean, stocked, and comfortable. The underside of the house was a bonus for keeping the car cool/dry. One of the best outdoor showers we’ve seen in OBX.
Disappointed the rates jumped up so much for next year though. Will likely have to look elsewhere as a result.

It’s not what’s advertised!
Although the property indicates it was recently remodeled, it’s very used and not well taken care of. The walk to the beach is near impossible…over the main road and into an area with limited access. It’s easier and safer to enter at Avon Pier. The best part of the house is that it’s on a quiet street, with a canal behind, which is soothing!

Very nice home in a great location
Everything at the house was very clean! Nice outside area to sit and area under the house to hang out if it’s raining or just want out of the sun. And the best thing was that the yard backed up to the canal, so you could crab, fish or kayak right from the house. All in all we was very pleased with everything including the location!!

Home away from Home
We had a wonderful time at Duckin Around. If it hadn’t been cold and raining we would’ve done more exploring. My best friend and her husband have a a permanent RV down in Avon, so they know the area pretty well, but have never been in that area before. They loved the house so much, especially my best friend’s husband. The neighborhood was quiet, which is what we like. Only negative: microwave is broken and no one from the realty office called us back. All in all it was the perfect place for us. Will book again the future!!! Thank you!!!!

Great house, but poorly managed by management company
I've reached out to the management company, Hatteras Realty, and asked them to get our feedback to the owners, but a week has gone by, and we haven't gotten a response.
I don't want this review to reflect on the owners, because it really was a wonderful house, and we had a really great time. Hatteras Realty poorly managed the house. It was very dirty upon arrival. I immediately cleaned the bathtubs and floors. They refunded our cleaning fee.
The grass in the yard was kneehigh in spots and there was quite a lot of dog poop in the yard.
The internet wasn't working when we arrived. We needed it for two virtual students and one virtual business worker staying at the house. After 4-5 days of being bounced around by Hatteras with no real solutions, we took matters into our own hands and called the provider. It was fixed the next morning. They had to rewire from the house to the street, and change a connector inside the house.
There were many other things that were subpar. The most concerning was that the air filter was overflowing with dust and dirt. That's probably why the floors were so dirty. In a Coronavirus world, it made us super nervous that the filter hadn't been changed for what seemed like months.
The house itself was wonderful. It happily housed our family of 6 for one month. The canal in back was so great for crabbing and kayaking. The walk to the beach was a breeze, even with 2 3-year-olds. The neighbors were so lovely that my 10 year old cried when we left.
