About this cottage rental
Booking the Castle Gatehouse is akin to booking your very own miniature castle for your stay at Sudeley! The former gatekeeper's house marks the entrance to the castle grounds and has been converted and restored to provide comfortable accommodation for up to four guests over its unique layout. Its ancient and impressive structure is complemented with symmetrical gardens lined with iron railings and a stone courtyard in the centre.
The accommodation is arranged such that Bedroom One, with its four-poster bed and en-suite shower room, is accessed via a separate door, in one wing of the Gatehouse. Across the courtyard is another door, leading into a well-equipped kitchen with a dining table and chairs for four guests, a utility area with stairs leading up to a beautifully furnished, cosy living area and additional separate WC just off the landing. A further seven steps will take you to Bedroom Two, a spacious room with a king-size double bed. A few steps down will lead you to the en-suite shower room, with a concealed washing machine and tumble dryer.
Outside, guests can admire the pastoral views that line the driveway to the castle from two individually gated gardens, a mirror image of each other, neatly connected by a shared patio in the middle with an outdoor dining table and chairs.
Ground Floor
Please note, as per the floor plan, the bedrooms have separate entrances across a courtyard and are not joined.

A thoughtfully laid-out and well-equipped kitchen, featuring a dining table and chairs for 4 people, toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, oven and 4 ring electric hobs, microwave and dishwasher.
Utility:
The practical utility area off the kitchen under the stairs is where you'll find a large free standing fridge/freezer, high chair and stairgate, a floor mop, cushions for the outdoor chairs and even a spare dog bowl and blanket should you need it. Note: the washing machine and tumble dryer are upstairs in the en-suite bathroom.

This is a magical venue and I loved it.
The cleanliness of the unit was a bit of a dissapointment, dead insects in the cutlery draw and over the floor, a genral layer of dust. The bathrooms were sparkling clean.
The four poster was one of the reasons for booking so quite dissapointed that the bed had been broken and it was only a two poster. The mattresses were the hardest I've ever slept on.
Everything else was super.

Brilliant location within easy walking distance of the castle and village. Toiletries provided and plenty of towels and a nice welcome pack of essentials like milk, teabags etc. The gatehouse was spotlessly clean and provided a comfortable stay.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Sudeley Castle Gatehouse. it was a once in a lifetime experience staying in the Gatehouse. It is well appointed and has all the comforts of home while being one of a kind. It’s located alongside a beautiful path to the Sudeley Castle itself, which is only a short 5-10 minute walk away. The pasture next door has sheep grazing and overall the location is charming and peaceful.
So many nice touches and conveniences…separate washer and dryer, a fresh pint of milk left sealed for us in the fridge for morning coffee, the courtyard with table and chairs (only 3 and would have been nice to have 4 chairs), the modern kitchen amenities, the private gated drive and property, dog friendly (even though we didn’t have our dog with us), 2 1/2 bathrooms, the 2 binders left with info: one with user manuals and one with area sites, restaurants, maps, etc., and free entry to tour the beautiful Sudeley Castle and many more.
Potential improvements are few…adding hooks in the bathroom for towels, wish the gatehouse was a single unit to be more family friendly for traveling with kids, rather than requiring separate keyed-entry for the bedroom and bathroom on the left, and a welcome tray of fruit ;)

Absolutely gorgeous accommodation on the grounds of Sudeley Castle. Modern facilities and great comfort surrounded in rich history. Would definitely stay here again.

Our three day stay at the Gatehouse was exactly as we had hoped it would be. A great location with nature all around but the village amenities just 5 minutes walk away.
The castle itself is both beautiful and historically significant, having been the resting place of Katherine Parr and home to monarchs and kingmakers.
The rooms are cosy - it’s a gatehouse, not a chateau, so don’t expect to have acres of space. That doesn’t detract from the charm of the place and for one or two couples it’s something very different to the cottage let you would normally see.
Very highly recommended.

Enjoyed visiting Sudeley Castle and Gardens several times without charge.
As far as the Gatehouse is concerned there is room for improvement:
No bedside-lights within easy reach in the bedroom (1 st floor). One bulb in a table lamp in the living room was missing.
Shower on the ground floor did not provide cold water.
Heating not working properly.
Mould at a window lintel (living room).
Stains on the bed linen.

2 bedrooms and bathrooms, very well appointed.
A lovely area.

We spent a lovely two nights at the Castle Gatehouse. It’s such an unusual property and so close to Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle, yet in quiet isolation.
Absolutely everything you could wish for is provided at the Gatehouse and the inclusion of free admission to the Castle is a bonus. It’s a beautiful place to visit and just along a path that leads directly from the Gatehouse.

We all enjoyed staying at the Gatehouse very much. One couple had a kitchen and a sitting room as well as an ensuite bathroom, while the other had a bedroom and an ensuite bathroom. We are very old friends and this worked for us; it would also work well for a family.
The Gateway was very clean with ample towels of a good quality and a well stocked kitchen. The sitting room was a bit snug, but very comfortable.
We loved the setting of the Gatehouse and, being semi city folk, we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The complimentary entrance to the Castle was very welcome. My husband and I volunteer in a house in Twickenham and we enjoyed exploring the links between the two properties.
There were a couple of 'niggles'. First the beds were rather hard and the pillows were very flat. The ensuite bathroom in the larger half of the Gatehouse was accessed by stairs with no handrail. My friends reported that it felt very unsafe in the middle of the night.
They also reported that the shower controls were temperamental.

If you have the opportunity to book a stay in this historic castle gatehouse, do not hesitate. The property has all the modern comforts including two spacious bathrooms and a full-sized clothes washer and dryer. Perfect for two couples or a family with older children (since the two bedrooms are in separate parts of the gatehouse). It’s a 5-minute walk into the charming town with several good pubs and restaurants. Make sure to save a day to explore Sudeley castle and its gardens. It is spectacular and packed with history. Admission is free with your stay, but we recommend the inexpensive 30-minute tour provided by one of their excellent guides. Don’t miss a chance to stay in this extraordinary property!

The gatehouse was a lovely location, the accommodation suited us as two couples we enjoyed visiting local sites of interest especially the castle and the steam railway in Winchcombe. We would recommend the Indian restaurant in Winchcombe and had a nice meal in the Pheasant pub in toddington.
We would like to make a few polite recommendations, There was an ant problem in the kitchen side of the building which we reported and was told it would be sorted out. Wooden flooring in kitchen not fixed down(trip hazard) and damp coming through above window in front room needs looking at urgently.
Helpful recommendations hooks in downstairs bathroom/ second frying pan/ bed linen refreshed.

We had a perfect short stay here without a car. A short walk into town for groceries, meals out and shopping, plus beautiful country to walk in, the castle, and gardens direct from your front door. We were there in the off-season so fewer tourists and lots of lambs—perfect! Clever, quirky, architectural conversion and wonderfully hot water for showers.
There are several steep staircases in this particular conversion, so I wouldn’t recommend it for people that might challenge, but I would for everyone else. We loved our stay.

Wonderful stay in the Castle Gatehouse over Easter, celebrating my 60th Birthday with friends. Four of us stayed, beds were comfortable, great location, we enjoyed our free visit to the Castle & Gardens which are well worth a visit. Walking distance to some nice pubs in Winchcombe, and enjoyed some lovely walks around the surrounding area.
During our stay we had a problem with one of the smoke alarms, we called the number provided and maintenance visited with half an hour, most impressed.

Generally we liked the property, it had everything we needed for our stay and the location is excellent.
The wifi was very poor and needs to be improved. The property had a lot of lady birds crawling everywhere, during our 3 night stay i gathered 25 lady birds and put them outside. Both bedrooms are a great size with excellent ensuites.
I think the website should make it clearer that one of the bedrooms has a different entrance to the rest of the property, ie it is completely separate so it wouldn't be suitable for 2 adults plus 2 children.

Very unique property, stunning location. Beds are a little uncomfortable and it is on the pricey side. Make sure the heating is always on as it gets cold

We have just returned from a week's stay at the Castle Gatehouse. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 dogs. The property is situated in a superb location on the edge of Winchcombe, and we were able to enjoy long walks straight from our door out into the surrounding countryside every day. We found the property to be reasonably well equipped, although the kitchen/dining area was quite small and it felt as if with four adults and two dogs we were all on top of each other, especially as there wasn't much room to put wet boots, coats, dog towels etc upon returning from our walks. A few hooks by the door to hang things would perhaps be useful! The lounge upstairs was again small, although not a problem, however the sofa and armchairs we found to be quite uncomfortable if sitting for any length of time. The main bedroom was generously sized, as was the ensuite bathroom, however the bed itself was a little on the uncomfortable side also. However, none of these minor issues detracted from what was an enjoyable week in a great location.

Great location for exploring Sudeley Castle and the surrounding area. Very well equipped kitchen and furniture. High quality finishes throughout. Loved the outside space and the welcome pack. Duvets, bed linen and towels should be upgraded to meet this standard of rental. Loo seat needs tightening in one of the bathrooms. Lots of cobwebs in the larger bathroom. Hooks for hanging dressing gowns would be appreciated and a soap dish for the shower. Limited hangers for a 3 night stay. Very informative guidebook but the username for the internet is incorrect. Otherwise a great stay and would recommend to others.

We (two couples) stayed for 4 nights at the Sudeley Castle Gatehouse to explore the Cotswolds. The location was just perfect for taking driving tours in the area and simply enjoying the local village and walking paths.
The Gatehouse has two bedrooms, one on the downstairs left side and one upstairs on the right side (when facing it from the driveway). If you are staying in the downstairs bedroom, you will have to walk a few steps outside under the covered archway to get to the kitchen and second upstairs bedroom. Both rooms have comfortable beds and ensuite bathrooms. There's also a convenient "common toilet" off the sitting room. The kitchen was fully stocked and we were welcomed to coffee (Nespresso!!!), tea, hot chocolate, jams, and cookies. In the village you will find a market to buy basic supplies. The table in the center of the kitchen comfortably seats four. Books and brochures are found throughout the house which were appreciated. We also used the washer and dryer which was a really nice feature.
We took advantage of the free pass to Sudeley Castle, which we would highly recommend to fully understand the history of the castle and truly appreciate where you are staying. We definitely would stay here again!

Lovely setting but really let down by standard/comfort of furniture. Kitchen chairs were disgusting covered in stains and therefore we didn’t want to use them. Beds uncomfortable mattresses inferior. We felt the property was very overpriced for the standard of the interior particularly-very basic and very disappointed

We enjoyed our stay at Castle Gatehouse. Beds were comfortable and space was great for two couples. We loved walking up to castle in morning. Kitchen was sufficiently stocked for our needs. Coffee and tea were provided. The weather was hot and humid so a bit hard to keep upper bedroom cool with limited windows available to open (old building so understand the limitations). Some fans would be helpful. Overall I’d recommend this place.
4.4
The gatehouse was lovely and a perfect location but the interior needs some updating. Kitchen chairs & fabric headboard were heavily stained and entire cottage was in need of dusting.
4.4
Love staying in the gatehouse as it is close to everything in Winchcombe. This was our second time staying here and hopefully there will be a third!
4.4
What a thoroughly delightful and modernized castle gate! It is very well appointed, elegantly done, and feels like a home. The castle and stunning grounds in the backyard are a lovely touch.
You could supply a shelf for soap and shampoo in the showers. The bathrooms are well done.
Worth every penny.

Stayed at Sudely Castle Gatehouse for four nights. The setting was fantastic and the weather was kind to us. Overall it was a positive experience. The place was clean and inviting. The general maintenance of the property let it down though and whoever checks and maintains needs to do a better job. Just simple things like replacing bulbs, cooker, extractor, bathroom mirror in main bathroom not working (faulty as would not stay on). Shower head rusty and handle missing from shower on off switch. No hook for clothes, robe or towel when in shower. No mirror for use in a vanity situation to lay makeup or near a plug socket for hair drying. Had to sit on the bead to dry hair 2 meters from the mirror and sit on the floor to make up. Good mix of equipment in kitchen but not one pan was non-stick, and no scourer left to clean them with.
All of these things are simple enough to do and not a great cost and a fraction of what it costs to stay there. It would turn this property into a 5 star rating rather than the 3 I have given it. My last and lingering feeling was having to leave by 10am and having the cleaning staff waiting at the gate at 5 to 10 for us to leave, just felt like being evicted. A 15 minute grace period before they turned up would have felt much nicer.
4.4
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with friends at the Gatehouse. It was very unique and also comfortably modern in many ways.
We were able to visit the castle and ground which were spectacular in the autumn colours.
The Gatehouse itself was warm and inviting and it had the added bonus of Netflix, easy parking and washer and dryer. This was great when you are travellers from Australia and have 5 more weeks of travel.
4.4
A midweek break in a beautiful property in a stunning setting . complimentary access to the castle and gardens was utilised and we had a very informative 4 hour visit. The gardens and views stunning in autumnal sunshine. the property is warm cosy and very comfortable. All elements are of a high standard . We will certainly look at Bolthole retreats for future holidays .
4.4
The house itself was very nice and it had a great location. The welcome guide needs to update the hot water and heater instructions. It does not tell you where the controls are located (in this case the bathroom connected to the adjoining bedroom) and the instructions for how to use it don’t match the device that is there. Other than that it was an amazing stay.
4.4
Classic venue to spend a couple of nights on our driving tour through the Cotswolds. Two bedrooms in the Gatehouse. One bedroom and bath is easily accessible for anyone mobility impaired, but the second bedroom has steep stairs up to the bedroom and down to the bathroom. Pack lighter if you're carrying bags. Small kitchen and eating area but sufficient for 4 people. Nice outside sitting area overlooking a sheep grazing field. Lots of locals walking their dogs by the Gatehouse in the early morning. Short walk to a nice bakery and coffee house in the mornings. Also within walking distance to a couple of nice restaurants for dinner, such as The Lion Inn. Washer/dryer in the Gatehouse, but you need your own washing detergent. One detractor - water heater insufficient for 4 people taking showers along with clothes washer and dishwasher. Be mindful you don't try to do too much at the same time. Staying at the Gatehouse provides you free entrance to Sudeley Castle. Highly recommend the Gatehouse for an overnight stay in the Cotswolds.

Customer service awful when have a problem cobwebs lights not ever dusted but was told it was old do this is normal

Expected something unique and it was. Charming location a short walk into village. Sudeley Castle the extended garden. Birds aplenty and even magical bats at dusk and owls at night. Great place to do visits from and lots of local eating venues if you don’t fancy cooking.
4.4
Excellent stay in a real castle gatehouse. Very nice to walk to the castle to get some history of England. Every day a lot of people walk by with their dogs and all in a tranquille setting with birds of prey in the air. Everything you need is in the gatehouse.

Magical gatehouse
Pros-Absolutely magical location. Within walking distance to town. Castle grounds great for walking. Castle history fascinating.
Nice privacy with the separate bedrooms.
Cons- The gatehouse is old so maybe this is why the enormous amount of spiders. (Not afraid) also the kitchen needs something to bake on - no baking sheets for scones or cookies. No tea strainer for loose leaf tea we bought - in UK - surprised us! Not enough Toilet tissue for 4 days. Not enough paper towel for 4 days (we cooked a lot) and no extra blankets. No laundry soap was provided like all other Airbnb’s .
We were able to overlook this for the quiet and privacy and charm. But if you want convenience this may not be for you.

A fairy tale
Absolutely LOVED our stay! Property is well stocked with amenities. Beds were firm but comfortable. Locals very friendly as they walked their dogs each morning. Will recommend to others!
4.4
Charming Cotswolds
Fabulous weather meant we spent all our stay outside, which was fortunate as lounge furniture not the most comfortable.
dishwasher provided but with only 4 of each size of crockery it meant washing after every meal.
suggest investing in additional crockery and upgrading lounge furniture would greatly improve facility
Only 3 coat hangers for 4 guests does seem somewhat mean
4.4
WONDEFUL
Was absolutely perfection!!!!! Relaxing, close to everything surrounded by nature and short walk to castle and town. Perfection
4.4
Unique accomodations
The gatehouse has a fun layout to explore. Great location to castle, town, and walking paths within walking distance from gatehouse. Can even cook in kitchen and just stay in or sit on patio and enjoy the veiws.

We booked this property as it looks like a castle, which being the castle gate house, it sort of is. The reason, we were with two friends from the USA and lets face it, the US doesn't have real castles.
The booking and checking in process was a doddle and very easy to complete. As we approached the property we got a real Wow factor as it looks so impressive.
On entering, you arrive in the kitchen which is equipped with everything you need for a weeks stay, with a good size fridge freezer (not that we did much cooking but was good for the beer, cheese and wine). Up the stairs is a cozy living room. Whilst the seating looks nice, it could do with some more comfortable seating as for 4 adults, we found it somewhat wanting. However this did not detract from our stay.
Both bedrooms are very comfortable and have nice en-suites with the downstairs bedroom having a four poster bed. Make sure you shower at separate times as I found the water flow reduce to a dribble in the upstairs one when our friends used the downstairs one at the same time.
Our stay also gave us access to Sudeley Castle itself and this is a must as it is a wonderful castle both inside and in the grounds.
Despite the couple of drawbacks, I thoroughly recommend a stay here. It's quirky (which I love), it has atmosphere and it has history. Sudeley Castle gate house is a wonderful break in the Cotswolds and it isn't far from many lovely places.
