This dog-friendly house calls out relaxation! La Colita, which means 'little tail', is a fabulous Shaker style single-family home with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms and a private pool. The home is tucked away on a quiet street surrounded by trees in Harbert, MI.
The main level features an open concept plan with the eat-in kitchen and living area flowing seamlessly into one another. The kitchen is fully equipped and offers plenty of room for meal prep. The comfortable living room is oriented toward the built-in fireplace with access to the outdoors. Two of the three bedrooms are on the main floor. They each have queen beds and open out to the fenced-in area of the yard where the pool is set. There is a large screened-in porch off of the house, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the evenings or watching the action by the pool.
The upper level houses the main bedroom, which is furnished with a queen bed. There is also a sitting area outside of the bedroom where you can unwind and watch some TV or read a book on the window seat. The house is filled with collectible furniture and decor which gives it a very casual, relaxing atmosphere.
The owners had the foresight to grab up the lots on either side of the house so there is plenty of room for outdoor games and privacy. The large heated pool offers yet another way for guests to relax and enjoy the summer weather, and if you tire of the pool, a walk of a few blocks will put you at Harbert Beach.
If you want a house off the beaten path but with all the perks of a summer home, you won't find something more appropriate than La Colita.
THINGS TO KNOW
The pool will be open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with the possibility of early opening or late closing by a couple of weeks, but is completely weather-dependent.

Well kept secret
This home is comfortable and feels like a cottage in the woods. Exceptional furnishings and beautiful kitchen. Well stocked with everything/type of cooking item you would need. Some general spices for cooking. Downstairs bedrooms smaller sized, upstairs area is huge! Beautiful screened in back porch with wicker furniture, facing the woods and you often seen deer and wild turkeys. Pool is about 3 ft shallow end and about 8 ft on deep end - no exit ladder on shallow end. Pool furniture is sturdy and wooden. Nice, thick pool furniture pads. We did put pads into pool house when weather wet, as the pads can get soaked and take some time to drain. Great, large gas grill available- worked like a charm. Nice to have an open yard next to the house for pets to walk. Less than 1/2 mile to harbert public beach, easy walk - our 4 year old did it. Beach has relatively easy access, some stairs but manageable. Bring beach chairs and umbrella if you need those things. Overall, could not have been more pleased. Vacasa customer service was very attentive and quickly responsive to any need.

Booked through VRBO but Vacasa handled the stay, and it has not been great. Still waiting on a refund from them due to no internet the entire stay (we needed it for work) and NO WATER the last day (tainted local water supply), as we ended up leaving a day early. We also received DAILY visitors who just came in the pool area randomly, mostly to check rodent traps or spray for mosquitos. Would have been nice of them to at least give us a heads up before just walking on in the pool area, especially if this is a dog friendly rental. Also, end of summer... so beware of bees! The house had some minor nesting on the exterior. Left a review on the Vacasa site too but i'm skeptical the lengthy review will actually get posted to their site. Hopefully the Vacasa reps will get us some sort of refund, but it's been over a week and the refund request is still pending according to the local Vacasa rep who has been our contact the entire stay. He has been responsive which is great, but no resolution with any issues so it hasn't been that great. On a positive note the pool was great and the location nice too, in a wooded area close to beaches. Not super impressed with Vacasa though...

Older home but nicely upgraded interiors. Fully stocked kitchen for those who want to cook.. lots of spices and cookware! Oven and Gas grill was broken , but they refunded us for the inconvenience. Nice large heated pool that have great spots of shade and plenty of sun. Easy 2 minute drive/ 10 minute walk to private beach. Small and beautiful! Nice screened in porch living area. Put the teenagers in the upstairs master suite with plenty of room and quiet for us below. Dog friendly for sure but just keep a look out for deer that are not afraid to hang out. We packed way more than we needed as this home was well stocked with towels, bathroom, bedroom and kitchen amenities. We would return again for sure!

The small little neighborhood was so cute and charming. The house felt very cozy and I just loved the upstairs bathroom! The home had alot of nicely placed antique furniture and it really just looked beautiful. I loved waking up, sitting in the porched in sunroom and listening to the wildlife. I even saw a deer! The kids had a blast in the pool and Cherry Beach was less than a 5 minute drive. We practically had it to ourselves!
We absolutely loved our stay! Thank you for having us.

Easy not too fancy cottage, walkable to lake, sleepy quiet area in March, terrific for a dog. Cottage has all that you’d need.

Hello,
the location was nice- couple blocks to local beach on lake Michigan. We had some issues and problems with Vacasa. Instructions told us we had to disarm an alarm system. We asked for more info on that and just kept getting the same email with just a code. Once we got into the house we did see a box on the wall and entered the code over and over but kept getting a "not ready" message. this was very stressful and we had to make multiple calls for info. We were eventually told that a local manager would contact us. We waited all night --not sure what to do about alarm. the next afternoon a maintenance man called and said he could come and fix it if we wanted. We had gone out, (gave up waiting for call), and would have had to drive a distance to get back there. He said the alarm was not a requirement and we could just let it go!
The exterior of the house was very run down. We paid extra to be able to use the pool. Not like the on-line photos. The pool interior was moldy and slimy from the water line to edge so we were afraid of getting sick. The cinder blocks around the pool area were uneven and sharp; with weeds growing in between and around. The outdoor furniture cushions were completely waterlogged and showing signs of mold. We spent so much time trying to clean and prop them to dry but they stayed nasty the whole time.
The inside of the house was ok- the kitchen was clean and well equipped. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms, good. The couches were in poor condition.
We were embarrassed when the other couple we invited arrived. We couldn't sit around the pool and relax as we planned. We tried sitting at living room couches which had no cushioning left. For the price, we expected better. We found communication with an intermediary company with little to no local area support, difficult and stressful.
They offered us a late checkout but then were going to charge us extra for it!

If you are expecting a nice house it unfortunately is very old and rundown, however it served the purpose. The heated pool is amazing and the screened in porch is a great hangout. The area is a great location close to lots of little towns, dog park, beach and bakeries!!!

Nice quiet area. Spent most of the time poolside and even at the beach too! (2min drive). Kitchen was stocked with plenty of plates, forks, spoons etc. Good amount of towels for house use. Still brought our own. Rooms were decent. A couple inflatables were available to use as well for the pool too.

This was the perfect spot for me, my kids and our 2 year old Aussie. The house is super comfortable and in a beautifully wooded location. I would definitely stay here again.

Gathered fam for CDN thanksgiving at La Colita.
Very nice cottage-y feel in a woodsy area off Lake Michigan. Very quiet. Clean and well looked after.
Kitchen was so well equipped -fabulous! Comfy beds and good bathrooms. Really lovely screened in porch. I’m sure being there to use the pool in the months it’s open would be great!
My only reason for 4 stars is that the listing said it accommodates 8, but only 3 beds. There is a very old pull out couch on the second floor but not at all “sleepable”. Also had no phone number to contact owner/host but fortunately didn’t need it.
