The location downtown by the river was pleasant. I loved that it was a rehabbed vintage property. The elevator was good for my sister. Everything was so clean.
Basically nothing. Maybe the fact that we only had one night there. I would like to have explored the architecture and history of the town more!

The room was comfortable and we liked the exercise facilities and the beautiful, old building with a courtyard. The location is wonderful, in a run-down area (like much of Selma) but next to famous Edmund Pettus bridge.
The breakfast was nothing to write home about - instant products, overpriced, not much in the way of fresh, and not clear when you walk in how to order breakfast (staff not explaining).

Le caractère historique de l'hôtel. Sa localisation. Son bon niveau de confort.

The restaurant seemed to be the only place in the immediate area offering dinner. The food was good quality and tasty. Portion sizes were good.
Cleanliness could have been a bit better. Soap and paper towels out in the main floor bathroom. Front desk not always staffed. No breakfast offered. Only coffee and pastries for sale. Not clear how to order food and beverages at breakfast.

The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable.
Had to wait until 3:00 to get in the room.

The St James Hotel is a beautiful facility with historical antecedents going back at least to the Civil War era. It has been well refurbished and is a very short walk from the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The mixed drink at the bar was well executed
There were no bath towels, face cloths or toiletries in the bathroom, and no bathrobe. When informed of this at the desk I will was told that some would be brought to the room. Toiletries never materialized. Dinner was a huge disappointment; it was expensive and the over cooked salmon was served on a bed of soggy basmati rice with a couple of tablespoons of bland yellow zucchini. Breakfast the next morning wasn’t much better. A cellophane-wrapped ham, egg and cheese on English muffin concoction was heated in a microwave oven to the consistency of leather.
Finally while attempting to connect my devices to the internet, I had to make a second visit to the front desk to seek assistance as no one there was answering calls from the phone in the room, or my cellphone.

The night shift lady bought up towels each night after coming in late. Upon check out of room 202 the Housekeeping staff were very friendly. One of them even tracked me down for something I left in the room!
The lady who checked us in my opinion did not follow the proper protocols. She did not inform us of the incidental fees placed on the card. She just took the card and an extra 100 dollars popped up. I had to ask about it! Then, I asked about breakfast: Her response: It’s Starbucks Style- What? I said what does that mean?
Last time we stayed it was on the river side-quieter! This time we stayed on the street side-very noise- even after midnight.
We were on the second floor and could hear the people in the room above us.

It’s next to the river
The staff was rude, the lady charged me the 50$ incentive and didn't even tell me and then caught an attitude when I did ask why. Me and my fiancé stood at the checkout desk for 15 minutes while the staffer was sitting on her phone in her office . Was not worth the money for the stay

Staff was great. Hotel was beautiful.Breakfast was ok.
Our thermostat was wonky. Multiple times it kept heating or cooling well past the temperature it should have shut off.

The hotel is beautiful and in a fantastic location. the staff was excellent.
There was not adequate food supply or service. At breakfast, coffee and food ran out and was either not replaced or there was a long wait.

The Asssistant GM did an amazing job of looking after us during the tornado in Selma. We felt safe, comfortable and well looked after.

Loved the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness was really good as well
The breakfast was seriously lacking. From the website, we thought there was going to be a good breakfast and there wasn’t.

Perfect location, friendly staff, beautiful historic old hotel. The meal there on Friday night was very nice and service great!
Continental breakfast was really nothing. No milk, no juice, no coffee, no cereal, no milk. Had to go to the back and find someone to bring a cup of coffee and some orange juice. Not up to the standards of the rest of the visit.

Inconsistent presentation. The last day two opened loaves were laid on the table where the plexiglass pastry container had been. Coffee quality was not good.
Door lock on room did not lock. We paid for upgraded King room but we’re moved to a smaller room. We asked to move back after repair and to be contacted. There was no contact and after asking we were told maintenance did not show up. After asking a second time. we told the lock could not be be repaired.

The view of the river and size of the room
Hotel was desolate and dirty. The area is run down and nothing seems to have survived covid. No bar or restaurant open and nothing within walking distance - none of this is stated.

Love all the old floors, fireplaces, light fixtures, high ceilings etc. We thought the merging of the old with new - such as bathroom was well done.
Really nice to be by the river and bridge. People at the desk are exceptionally nice.
It would be nice to have a small refrigerator.
There is a great terrace overlooking the river, but it needs some attention. (weeding, potted plants and maybe a couple umbrella tables)

It’s historic and very cool.
They need more employees. One poor woman had to check us in and ring up items at the restaurant. And I’m not sure if there was a maid service because we didn’t get toilet paper and had to go down to the front desk to get some. The room also had a smell, but by that point, I was done bothering the front desk woman.

I liked the location of the property, but the locals vandalized a workers truck while we were there. Not apart of our staff but another guest complained about the incident to us.
The yellow water in the toilet and faucet.
