About this apartment rental
WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT THIS PLACE?
Flor de Chateau Jolie is a beautiful (air conditioned!!) vintage French Country inspired 3-bedroom 1.5-bath vacation home with a fantastic patio, and is an experience in and of itself, meticulously crafted to be a unique storybook experience.
First impressions say a lot. On the check-in tour, there have been several children who have blurted things like "can we just live here?" Final thoughts say even more. Adults typically have held off until they depart to say things like "Every detail was supplied, it really was our home away from home".
On just about every wall and in each cubby, there seems to exist an unspoken invitation to enjoy one another's company. Something compelling to see, discuss, or do, the longer a guest stays, the more they tend to discover. Chances are high that families and friends of all ages will find it hard to avoid spending quality time, even teens! One grandmother excitedly confided "Because of the XXXX, my 15 year-old grandson and I actually talked, about real things!" (You'll see when you arrive, part of the fun is discovery...)
WHAT'S THE BUILDING STRUCTURE LIKE?
Flor de Chateau Jolie claims the entire ground floor portion of a triplex and therefore is a lot like living in a 1-story house (windows on every N/S/E/W facing wall, front door, back door, patio...) except with others on the floor above. (shared ceiling but no shared walls)
AIR CONDITIONING?
Do not assume just because you are near the beach, you do not need air conditioning! Trust me, you definitely do. And yes, Flor de Chateau Jolie has great air conditioning.
WHERE WILL EVERYONE SLEEP?
Sleeping accommodations for 10 max are as follows: Each of the 3 bedrooms is nicely spaced apart offering privacy, the two larger ones being at complete opposite ends and the third being mid-way through.
The Bedroom Suite (queen canopy bed) is the furthest back and is very large at18-feet across, offering a comfy nicely lit armchair recliner sitting/reading/TV area. This room has a back door which exits directly onto the fully furnished and well-lit patio, which is shared among the other 2 units in the building.
The Blue & Yellow Room (queen bed) is mid-way through and is the closest to both of the bathrooms. This can be a plus for those who may need to use the facilities during the night.
The Bunk Room (twin top bunk + full bed + twin trundle) is located at the front of the home and plain and simply said is a kid-magnet! From babies to teens, each immediately gravitates and lays claim to this room. Although plenty of adults have opted to stay in it, it is plainly evident that from floor to ceiling this space was designed from the start for a kid to have a great time, without any sacrifices being made in consideration of what an adult might want.
And finally, the living room contains a pull-out sofa bed (queen bed). This is the only non-private sleeping space.
CAN ALL OF US EAT TOGETHER?
The dining room comfortably accommodates 6 or 7 and the living room another 6 or 7. The patio has comfortable seating for 14 plus a large hammock. For larger groups of guests over 6, the patio is the ideal place to enjoy a meal all together and in fact the propane firepit and/or grill has attracted all size groups of guests who have opted to dine on the patio.
WHAT ABOUT THE LOCATION?
The location is very well situated in good proximity to not only the beach but to two freeway onramps, thus extremely close to the airport (bedside ear plugs & sleep sound machines are provided for light sleepers) as well as all the major attractions people come to SD for. The beach is only a few minutes drive away. We have an extra special amenity of being able to enjoy walking and exploring the bird wetland reserve across the street. To top it off, during a few months of the year SeaWorld has fireworks several nights a week, right over the housetops to our north. Guests come to SD to be near the ocean and often comment how much they liked this location for its quick access to not only the beach, but the rest of SD as well.
DO I GET OFF-STREET PARKING?
A 2-car tandem parking space is provided. The front parking lot is not our most desirable amenity! It gets the job done but is not spacious. You may opt to ask your passengers to exit the car before pulling in. If this is off-putting, a third off-street parking spot may be available upon request, a tad less convenient but easier to navigate. As well, there is often but not always street parking available. All parking is free.
CAN I DO LAUNDRY?
A coin-op laundry room is just outside your front door.
UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MAKING SPECIAL MEMORIES
Extensive "Totally Cool & Mostly FREE Things to Do" list, hammock lounging, after dinner wine or hot cocoa by the firepit, roasting marshmallows, making s'mores, pie-time, backyard BBQing, family board games, spirited 18+ board games, cards, books, shed FULL of patio/beach/park equipment/games, sports equipment, boogie-boarding, art & craft fun time, family cork project, SeaWorld fireworks (seasonal), family movie nights, picnic on the patio/beach/park, plug & play competitions, home-cooking, morning coffee wetland walk, family puzzle building projects, and of course an opportunity to read/sign the Guest Sign-in book are all ideas!
DEVIL'S IN THE DETAILS – AM I GOING TO END UP FEELING LIKE A VIP OR A GROUPON HOLDER...?
Everything has been designed to delight our guests. From our crisp white 1,800 thread count buttery soft linens to our bedside furniture (which all have had both USB and electrical outlets embedded in them), it is our intention that guests feel as if they are being catered to at every turn.
Special considerations were made to ensure at least two lighting options are accessible from each bed. All windows have horizontal blinds to block unwanted morning light. Each bedroom has dedicated heaters and fans.
The main bathroom has a wall mounted extendable light-up make up mirror at 6X magnification, and there is a face-shaving mirror mounted inside the shower. There is a blow dryer and a curling iron as well as turbans (for wet hair). There are various hair and body products including shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There are various “take-one” personal toiletry/forgotten items.
The kitchen and dining areas are not large but make good use of the space and include a Keurig dual coffee machine (both k-cup and carafe options), dishwasher, gas range, large microwave, 8-slice toaster oven/air fryer, blender, full size oven, full size fridge/freezer, full sets of cooking/serving dishes/utensils, family-sized crock pot and XL pots/cookware.
The kitchen is pre-stocked with a variety of coffee/cocoa/teas/sweeteners/creamers, spices, cooking oils and condiments. There is a 30-cup PUR water filter in the fridge. There is a set of plastic cups to take out back. There are resealable baggies, saran and foil options. There is an honor-payment snack & beverage cabinet which also makes available convenience items such as postage stamps and rolls of quarters for the clothing washer/dryer.
The living room has a 50" wall-mounted ROCU streaming TV and a custom-made guest hook-up station, where guests will find chargers available to them to charge their phones and speed laptops up to and potentially beyond 500 mbps.
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER THINGS I MIGHT NEED TO KNOW?
• Small item toys/décor may not be suitable for children under 5 years of age. Please send the host your questions prior to booking if this is of concern for your family. This space was designed for families with children/teens/pre-teens! We've made efforts to secure low breakables, undesirable content cabinets have easily activated child locks, and electrical wall outlets are tamper-proof. Rubber eating utensils/plates, various sippy cups, baby wellness, books, toys and a high chair are provided. Hard-to-pack baby items are available upon request and include: pack & play w/bassinet & changing table, stroller, portable shaded play yard, beach mesh tent, and more. THAT BEING SAID... please LOOK at the PHOTOS to understand that this is a fully-decorated home - very different than the way hotels are staged.
• Internet connection speed is limited by the capabilities of that particular device’s configuration as well as local bandwidth congestion.
• San Diego’s International Airport is located right beside several communities including ours. Newcomers will notice the noise from the overhead planes and more so on the patio. If you think this will bother you or if you have experience as a light sleeper, then please be willing to try out the supplied ear plugs/white noise/nature machines, which should be more than adequate to have you sleeping very comfortably and soundly. However, PLEASE REFRAIN from booking if you think airplane noise will take away from you having a positive experience. We'd MUCH rather you book somewhere you are more certain to a 5-star experience.
• Please note, as do many vacation homes which offer accommodation options to include larger groups, there is a per person surcharge for groups larger than 6. Therefore it is necessary to search for your booking using the correct information to get the correct price quote prior to booking.
• Please DO NOT book a reservation if you are less than FULLY committed to respecting, and ensuring all House Rules as follows: No pets. No parties/unregistered guest gatherings/social get-togethers on or about the property without prior authorization from the host. No unregistered overnight guests. Be fully committed to being an EXCELLENT neighbor (friendly/quiet/respectful). No parking in anyone else’s parking space. If you break or stain it, admit it ASAP. WE RELY ON EXTERIOR CAMERAS to monitor noise/unregistered guests/parking issues/unauthorized pets. We have invested in your experience, please help us... help you... enjoy it!

This place had high-quality essentials and it was so clean upon check-in. It's a compact property in a dense neighborhood, but that means you're never far from anything you want to visit around San Diego! We rented a minivan, but knowing the bus was one block away was a good back-up option. We really appreciated the patio space, lots of toys/crafts for our 3 and 6 year old, and bountiful beach equipment. Even though the house is on the flight path from SAN, the good quality windows and AC make the sound blend into the background. Kim is very thoughtful and communicative in her preparation for guests. We'd definitely recommend to a friend.

Great location. Close to every major attraction. A break from the typical hotel stay. Feels like grandma's house and the kiddos loved it.

Traveling with young kids is such a challenge but this property had everything you could need, or maybe forgot to bring. Super cozy, lots of family friendly options available for use that were very helpful. Super easy checking and checkout, directions for everything in the house were so great and easy to use.

This is easily the best stay we have ever experienced. The location is fantastic with short drives to almost everything we wanted to do (almost only because we happened to go up to Disney one day). Clean property, kids loved it, and Kim is great. Highly recommend booking.

My family and i continued to be impressed by the detail put into this beautiful place! Kim is an experienced host and it shows. From a manual of the home to small reminders posted. We felt extremely comfortable and knew where everything was due to the manual, Kim's communication and her little notes throughout the house.
This is a great place for families and I hope to visit again soon!

Kim had everything we needed and more for our stay at her VRBO property. Kim is super helpful if you are not familiar with the area. She gave us a wonderful list of ideas of nearby sites to see. My wife stated the place was so cutely decorated and the host thought of everything.
We unfortunately had one of our party cancel and we had only 4 guests instead of the planned 5. There is easily plenty of room for 5-6 people in my opinion. There was 1 1/2 baths which was an improvement over most hotels. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again if we visit the area in the future.

It was a fantastic time!! The house was easily accessible to everywhere we wanted to go! The beds are so comfy and kitchen it well stocked!! She thought of everything for the beach , which my kids of all ages enjoyed!!
Patio was very relaxing! Enjoyed it so much!!

Kim has this lace set up with everything you might need, we over packed not expecting this place to be as well stocked as it is. I would definitely recommend this place and will stay here again if I’m ever down in the area.

Kim doesn’t great job communicating with you about your stay.
Great location, close to a lot of fun things.
The house really has everything you need & makes traveling easy. We had my older sisters & my granddaughter who is 16 mos. There were plenty of beds & THEY WERE ALL SO COMFORTABLE!!
You can tell there is a lot of thought & love that goes into the house so you feel good supporting them.
Great job Kim!!

Kim was great and accessible. Showed us all the perks of the house. Provided an up to date guide of SD and the surrounding areas. Definitely 5/5

This property was amazing! The pictures of the place are very accurate but don’t give it justice. It is a home away from home in every way. It was very accommodating to our family and our children. Anything we could possibly need it was there, we enjoyed the amount of amenities that were there, even though we didn’t necessarily need them it was the thought and effort that we were blown away by. It was a top notch vacation home and would recommend to anyone! Stay here! You will not regret it!

Location for tennis tournament at Barnes was so close and just perfect! Also a great location for the airport, getting to beaches, Sea World and really a convenient area overall for us. Kim very considerate and helpful with questions. Thanks!

The place overall exceeded our expectations. Location is great, plenty of parking, the complex had just about anything we could possibly need. And communication between host was great if you needed assistance it was there ready to help. Everything was detail very easily to understand ahead of time to minimize loss of time at property and got to enjoy more of our vacation. Really happy and will visit soon no doubt.

I can't even explain what a great place this is to stay for a vacation. I've stayed in several VRBO's and this one truely is like home.
The list of amenities doesn't include all the little things that are available. All the little things you miss when you're on vacation but don't want to buy when you only need 1-- foil, baggies, to go cups!
Forget to pack something? No problem, Kim has stocked up on mini's or samples or just has extras sitting around waiting for you to realize you forgot to pack it.
The honor system snack cabinet- what a great idea!!
Ok-on to the actual home (its not a house, it's truely a home) the layout is perfect for families or friends vacationing together. Everyone has space they need to feel comfortable. The bunk room is great, Kim has games galore for the kiddos.
The back patio is a great space, just remember the house is in the city so the neighbors are Close! So it might feel a bit awkward, but just smile and wave, folks will wave back and move on with their day.
The house is in a great location, close/ easy access to highways to get out of town, and major roads to get into the touristy spots.
The airport is close, so the planes are overhead but there are no overnight landings or take-offs
Kim, the host, is wonderful! The list she provides of suggestions of things to do/go/see/eat is awesome. She's very responsive to all inquiries or concerns.
Can't wait to come back and stay here again!! Thanks Kim!!!

Would highly recommend it.

Our group of 5 women had a fantastic visit. Kim's house is set up as thoroughly as one could dream of. She leaves nothing out. Check-in went very smoothly as did check out. Beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen and baths well stocked. And those massaging bean bag chairs....the best!! Looking forward to booking again for next years Bike the Bay ride.

I promised myself I would not write a long, verbose review as I usually do, so here it goes:
What a fantastic SD home, Kim has a place for everything (and I mean everything...toothbrush to dental floss!!!) and everything in it's place!
Perfectly convenient to most major SD attractions. The home (not a property or rental, way too impersonal for this place!!) is exactly as advertised. Not huge but it will fit a family of 7 or maybe more. Our 3 Grandson's were so happy with their private lair they did not want to leave and of course other Grandparents reading this will know this is the secret to a great vacation with their grandchildren. Thank you Kim for your hospitality!

This was probably most thought out rental I have used thus far. Everything you need, easy communication, would absolutely stay again.

I can’t say enough wonderful words about this property or Kim! The home is spotless and centrally located to Old Town, Downtown Gaslamp District, Ocean Beach, Sunset Cliffs! You really don’t need to bring anything but your clothes ? Kim provides everything you could possibly need. From going to A Padre Game and Old Town and just going to see our old stomping grounds for 20 years, it was nice to come back and rest and rewind. Our last evening we were worn out and we ended up ordering pizza and playing games which happen to be there to play!
We highly recommend this property and are already thinking about when we can come again!
Thank you Kim for everything!

This house was great. Everything that you would ever need for a beach vacation is there. Everything is labeled and all the small details are remembered. We never needed anything. There were even toothpicks in the kitchen! Our family of 7 fit perfect. Our teenage son did use the pull out sofa but it wasn’t because of space. He just wanted to be away from the girls. He said the bed was very comfortable. Kim, our host did a very nice check-in when we arrived. She checked in a couple of times which was perfect. Not overbearing at all. The perfect amount of attention. One of the favorite things at the house was the cabinet full of goodies. Almost like a “mini bar” at a hotel. It was full of great goodies and at reasonable prices. We just kept track of what we used and sent the host money via Venmo at the end of our trip. The kids loved it. Beds were all very comfortable and although the space is on the smaller side, it really didn’t seem that way. Check out was a breeze as the host has a checkout list so you know exactly what to do. A perfect vacation. If we plan another trip to San Diego, we will definitely be renting this house again. Thank you, Kim!

The. House was worked out well for our stay.
Great location, easy to get to Old Town, Little Italy & the harbor. the house has everything you need. You can really hear the planes when you’re on he patio- but not so much inside the house. The kitchen is small and might be tough to cook for a large group- we were 6 and made it work, used the gas grill outside which helped. Kim is a great host! Overall well worth it- Had a great time!

If you are looking for a place that is a step above the rest, you have found it. It may not be next to the beach but it is very conveniently located near shopping, restaurants, and the beach is a 5 minute drive. Let's not forget 3 reserved parking spots!! What!? Do yourself a favor and book this one today! And I don't want to forget to mention that all of of slept great! The triple paned windows and comfy mattresses were AWESOME!

From charging stations to kitchen and patio amenities, Kim had everything covered to make sure our family’s stay was fantastic. Our most important criteria is that a rental needs to be clean, and this VRBO delivered in that regard as well. We couldn’t have been happier with our experience!

Very nice and very inviting. Kim was very attentive and maked us feel very comfortable. The only thing that we experienced that was just a little below absolutely perfect was the mattress on the master bed.

This was absolutely one of the best accommodations we have ever had. The 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath apartment was very clean, beautifully furnished and thoughtfully equipped with everything we could possibly need for a home away from home. The owner Kim welcomed us with the most delicious pie and a warm greeting along with a list of recommended places to go and see. We truly could not have asked for more. Mahalo Kim! We hope to stay with you again soon.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this cozy little home. Our children were beyond entertained and had a blast.
The host was so exceptional and very kind hearted. She even went out of her way to mail us a list item after we had returned home!
We would leave 10starts if we could!

Kim's property was absolutely perfect! Her attentiveness to both the details of the property and responsiveness to messages is better than 5 out of 5. The home has so many simple fun touches that made the stay comfortable and convenient. We were able to relax and explore beautiful San Diego with little worries and then sit by the fire at night and enjoy the property!

We really enjoy our stay at FLOR DE CHATEAU JOLIE. Not only was the interior beautifully done with plenty of personal space, an electronic zone and a couple of quiet corners to go to. There was also a selection of coffee and teas and being the cook I really appreciated the variety of spices available.
My husband enjoyed the having a TV available in several rooms. My teenager enjoyed the bunk room and the games available. Sadly we were there during the "Atmospheric River" and weren't able to use the beautiful back patio. The location of the home was off the main road BUT so close to everything. Check out her book of "what to see" it's quite informative. Kim is a very thoughtful hostess.

Kim was such a conscientious host! Friendly and available to contact during our entire stay and she has made the unit such a cozy and comfortable environment. Everything you could think of needing for a stay was available and things you’d never have thought of as well. We were all very impressed by how fully stocked and prepared our vacation spot was. Would 120% stay here again and could not recommend it for anyone else more. This is a stand out property with a standout hostess!!! 5 stars and then some!!
