About this house rental
10 Sumner’s Crescent, aka O’ACES, was renovated in 2021, and features a new open kitchen and living area. The kitchen has marble counters, a full height marble backsplash, and waterfall edge. The counter has seating for 5. It has a high-end commercial, vintage style, iLve 5 burner gas range with a convection gas/electric oven and warming drawer. It also has a GE cafe French door, freezer bottom fridge, with an ice maker. The kitchen has a large stainless under-mount sink, a Quiet Bosch dishwasher with silverware shelf, and a garbage disposal.
The main house has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a laundry room on the first floor. There is also a long screened-in porch running the length of the back of the house with a door to it from each of those bedrooms.
The second floor is open concept, with the kitchen, dining area (comfortably seating up to 8), family room, gas (remote operated) fireplace, and game area. There is also a half bath & a deck with lounge chairs on the upper level.
The house has a separate crofter above the golf cart garage with an additional bedroom, bathroom & closet/mini-kitchenette. The crofter has its own deck with a seating area, shaded under an ancient oak tree.
The main house has a tankless hot water heater so that you, and everyone in your family, can take a long warm/hot shower on vacation without fighting over the hot water. A rare treat!
O’ACES is located adjacent to the BHI Conservancy, right by Mike’s Bites & Captain Charlie’s. It is just under 2 blocks to the Beach, between Beach Access 35 & Beach Access 36.
You can Walk to the Shoal’s Club, Beach Access 39, East Beach, Cape Fear Station, and much more!
2 of the bedrooms have King beds.
1 bedroom has a queen bed and 3 twin beds, bunked. There are also 2 blowup twin mattresses, and a portable crib.
The house has a separate garage, with 2 golf carts. One golf cart is included in the rental rate. There is an additional golf cart available for rent on a daily or weekly basis.
Both golf carts are 4 seaters. One is a 2012 Club Car & the other is a 2023 Bentelli with a back up camera & a cell phone charger.
There is an extra washer & dryer in the closet in the garage. We find it’s Great for sandy towels & bathing suits or Crofter laundry.
There is a private/enclosed outdoor shower behind the garage with plenty of hooks for all of your bathing suits, waders and towels.
There are other goodies in the garage and storage area behind it that you can borrow. (Bikes, a bike tire pump, golf cart blankets, beach chairs, beach toys, boogie boards, casting nets, crabbing nets, etc.)
We are members of the Shoal’s Club, so you can buy a temporary membership to it for your stat. Please note, that both clubs have added an administrative fee of $100 if your temporary membership is not processed 7-10 days before your arrival. Starting in 2022, the Clubs are now charging per person, per week for anyone 6 years and older using the Club (instead of the per bedroom charge covering the house). In high season & many holidays, the Shoal’s Club is closed to temporary members on Mondays & the BHI Club is closed to temporary members on Saturdays & Sundays. Shoal’s Club paperwork can be done directly on their website, and you can pay the club directly with your credit card at the time you sign up or by phone at least 7 days before you arrive. The Club’s website has information about the services, activities, and the dining options they offer. It is updated fairly regularly & changes frequently.
We were hoping to do Friday to Friday or Sunday to Sunday rentals in order to avoid Saturday to Saturday rentals which are so (maybe too) popular. We thought many guests might want to avoid the most popular turnover day, for ease of ferry and tram reservations/booking, etc. The lines for the ferries are much more crowded on Saturday. However, we are flexible if you prefer Saturday. We encourage you to consider Friday to Friday, another weekday, or Sunday.
Starting with the first week of June 2023, the ferry ticketing system has become electronic, with the ability to make reservations for each ferry. Here is a link to their website and frequently asked questions:
https://www.baldheadislandferry.com/faq-new/
You can also purchase electronic tickets by downloading their app, found by searching “bald head island” in the App Store. The tickets can be stored in your Apple wallet.
If you are flying into RDU or Wilmington ILM, and don’t want to rent a car just to leave it at the ferry parking lot (and pay for that daily parking), we have a list of drivers that can take you and your friends/family to and from ILM or RDU and the ferry. If you forget anything, or want to pick up some items that are not convenient to fly with, we have drivers that will stop on the way.
We can’t wait to welcome you to our home.
We welcome any questions you may have.
And now, “Things we thought we’d never need to write in the house instructions”
for $1,000, Alex:
1. Do not sit on the roof of the house or the crofter.
2. GOLF CARTS: Do not drive the golf carts on the beach or off road. Please be very mindful of the tires. Golf cart tires are not meant to be driven on streets in general, and there has been a lot of construction on the island lately, so there are nails and other sharp debris; drive carefully. You are responsible for any popped tires, and any unusual wear and tear to the tires. You must have a valid drivers’ license, and be 16 or older to operate a golf cart. Do not drive golf carts or bikes under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Please hose off the golf carts when you are finished with them and remove any trash.
3. There is a hose by the garage, and another one by the front door, for your feet, your children’s feet, your dog’s feet, and anything else that went to the beach that is not going to stay in the garage or outside.
4. Beach toys & Garage items: please feel free to use any beach toys, beach chairs, beach towels, casting nets, etc. that you find, but please return them hosed off and where you found them. We are happy to share these items with you, but we can’t continue, if you don’t respect them. In the cooler months, there is a bin full of golf cart blankets to the left of the carts in the garage.
5. Please respect our games, books, china, crystal, and nice linens. We want to share these items with you, but we can only continue to do so if you return them how you found them in generally the same place. It’s easy if you take a photo.
6. If you choose to rearrange the furniture, please put it back how you found it.
7. Please do not put food on the walls or under furniture or mattresses.
8. All recycling should be taken to the recycling center by the dump and Public Safety, near the Market. Recycling is not picked up by the trash people on Bald Head Island. If you fill the outside trash bins, please go to the dump, which is located by Public Safety. The trash people will not pick up any excess trash.
Thanks!

We had a great stay at O’Aces!! The home is beautiful and the location is ideal—close to East Beach, Mikes’s Bites and the Bald Head Conservancy. Courtney is a great host and goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need.

From even before my family of 5 arrived for our week at Bald Head Island, I knew we would have a wonderful time at O'Aces! Courtney was wonderful at communication, answering my questions and proactively sending me information about events happening during our stay. The best way to describe this house is it feels more like you are staying with a friend than staying at a rental. The home is homey, with all of the needed items and beyond. It's theming is Disney level with beach details tastefully orchestrated in every room. A perfect mix of comfort and luxury! Not to mention the house is CLEAN! The island is a magical place and you will not be disappointed staying at O'Aces.

Very much enjoyed a wonderful stay at O'Aces. Updated, clean home with tons of amenities. Perfect location, within walking distances to Mike's Bites, Shoals Club and Turtle Central. Highly recommend

We had an amazing stay at O'Aces. There were 9 of us total - 4 adults, 5 children (11 &12). The home was the just the right size. The two king rooms were perfect for two couples.
O'Aces has the nicest decor of any of the homes we've stayed on Bald Head. The attention to detail and quality of was remarkable. The house has everything the family could need. EVERYTHING.
The best part were all of the options we had for coffee in the morning - Nespresso, drip, espresso, pour over :). Such a treat!
The owner was incredibly responsive. I needed to reach out on a few minor items and she responded every time within minutes. Much better than other experiences we have had on the island.
Highly recommended! We'll certainly be back soon.

We had a great time at this beautiful home on BHI. It was the perfect location and in the perfect location for our family. The option to visit the Shoals Club was the cherry on top.

. . . just far enough from the crowd, but close to the water, aesthetically idyllic, a soft, clean, comfortable place to recline and soak up the beauty of Bald Head. With views of tree-tops, green and swaying, and of the melting orange-sherbet sunset each night right from the back deck, OAces trumps all, hands down!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this delightful property on Bald Head Island during our family vacation, and our experience was nothing short of excellent. The property earned a solid 5-star rating from us in every aspect.
To start with, the property was immaculately clean and the comfort level was top-notch, making it a cozy home away from home. The online listing was spot on, accurately representing the property in both description and photos. We were pleased to find that the reality surpassed our expectations based on the online presentation.
The location was another winning point. The property sits conveniently close to beach access, the Shoals Club, and Mike's Bites, making it easy for us to enjoy all our planned activities. This really enhanced our vacation experience.
The host was truly hospitable and demonstrated excellent communication skills. We received swift responses to our inquiries, making our stay smooth and worry-free.
All in all, we had a fantastic time at this property and on Bald Head Island. We strongly recommend this property to anyone planning a vacation here. It's a great find with its stellar cleanliness, comfort, and location. You won't be disappointed!

We had a fantastic stay at O’Aces. The house was updated with very nice finishes and we loved how close it was to the Shoals Club and beach. The owner was very responsive to any questions we had. Would highly recommend this property for your Bald Head vacation!!

Really nicely appointed place. All of the little things were there, which was nice -- games, wet towel hooks, beach towels, tp, dishwasher tabs, laundry detergent, saran wrap, charcoal, etc. Really nice taste in décor - some high end touches (marble countertops, lounge cushions on the deck were so comfy) and clean. No wasted space -- good floor plan and layout. Being a tall family, we loved the vaulted ceiling on the top level.
If you have littles, they will dig the children's bedroom. With room for 5 kids, and some really fun things like a tv mounted in the bunk beds (which my 7 y/o loved watching movies) stuffed alligators, with patio access and ample space to get around.
We only used one of the golf carts -- there was a brand new one and boy was it nice. Never realized how important a new golf cart was to the quality of the stay before.
Location was close to East Beach, our fav, and is nestled nicely into the palm trees and island growth. The thing that was lacking was the ocean view, but that would have changed the price point greatly, so we were happy with the value that O'Aces provided along with the proximity to the water..
With our family size and make up (2 young girls) we didn't need/use the crofter room above the garage, but if you had older kids or another couple it would be ideal as it was a separate space.
Courtney was easy to communicate with and cared about us -- we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. If you like East Beach, O'Aces is a gem!

Beautifully furnished house, well equipped kitchen, luxury linens and close to East Beach. With gale winds nearly all week, we were happy to hunker down inside. Our son and daughter-in-law enjoyed staying in the crofter with their two dogs. Owner is super helpful and responsive. We hope to come next year!

Thanks for hosting our trip at BHI. The girls loved the bunk room! We enjoyed your home and look forward to visiting again soon.

Lovely home in a great location on the island! Courtney was extremely helpful in providing information prior to, and during, our stay. The crofter was a perfect nest for the teen girls to occupy, while the other two bedrooms in the main house were roomy enough for the rest of us. And not enough has been made about the AMAZING star show you get off the back upper deck on clear nights, WOWZER! Thank you, Toledo family for sharing your lovely home for spring break! We loved our first stay on BHI and will return!

We really enjoyed our stay. The house is lovely and decorated very tastefully. It's in a great location on the island. Courtney, the host, was very responsive to any questions that we had. My 20 year old stayed in the Crofter apartment and loved the privacy. We would definitely return. Bald Head Island is wonderful.

We had a great time! The house was very clean and Courtney was very responsive to questions. My 1 year old loved riding around in the golf carts and we were just a short trip from everything we needed. The crofter is great for people who want their own private space sometimes.

Really well decorated, roomy, modern beach house for our family (me, wife, in-laws, 3 year old and 8 month old kids). Excellent location near Captain Charlies, the Turtle Conservancy and Shoals Club.
Roomy interiors, with lots of activities around the house for the kids and family, which was great for when tropical storm Nicole passed the island for a few days.
Real highlight is the host - Courtney was super responsive and friendly, with plenty of tips and advice about activities and getting around the island.
Overall 5/5. Thanks!

We had a great time staying here. Being on the less populated end of the island made for a nice quiet getaway. We loved sitting out on the deck at night and watching the stars. The bedrooms were all well appointed with comfortable bedding. The whole house was bright and beautifully decorated. Courtney was super helpful with quick communication and had everything setup to be warm and welcoming. We will definitely be back!

This home is beautifully decorated and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. We loved being amongst the trees but also close to the beach. We've come to BHI for 27 years and it's our go to spot. Thank you to our wonderful host Courtney and her family.

The gathering spaces we terrific for my husband, his brother and wife and I! The bedrooms were unique and perhaps better suited for a family but we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Courtney could not have been more accommodating and easy to communicate with.

This was my family’s first time back to BHI in over 5 years after selling our home on the island. This was the perfect place to stay, from the ambience of the house nestled away, to the close proximity of the beach, shoals club and mikes bites, there was something for everyone! Courtney was easy to communicate with, before, during and after our stay, and we really appreciate that! Thank you so much for hosting my family - we made many wonderful memories and cannot wait to come back :)

JULY 4TH 22
We just came back from staying at the O'Aces property and I can say it was lovely. The interior decor was absolutely beautiful! It was a little difficult with two families staying there bc we just needed one more living space for kids but other than that our stay was perfect! Courtney, the owner, was extremely helpful and very communicative. We loved renting from her and hope to be back in the future!

We had a great time on the island, and in particular with our stay here! Great location to the beach. Bikes readily available, as well as beach chairs. Host was responsive to our questions. Home was great, with ample towels for the beach. We had a wonderful stay!

The house is set up perfectly for a family, beautiful living space with both bedrooms downstairs.
The golf cart was fast and fun - we even got a ticket, so be warned there are police patrolling the island oops.
We rode the bikes to dinner and walked to coffee daily.
The house is in a perfect location for the beach and shoals club!
Final note, the master bed is so comfortable, we are ordering the same duvet.
Only thing we were missing were some blankets for the golf cart, a little chilly weekend. But we used towels.
Thanks for having us, hope to be back.
